Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The Tekonsha Tow Harness, 7-Way Complete Kit TK22112 (Part #TK22112) fits the following vehicles: 2014-2024 Ram ProMaster 1500; 2014-2024 Ram ProMaster 2500; 2014-2024 Ram ProMaster 3500. Always verify your specific year, make, and model before ordering.
The Tekonsha Tow Harness, 7-Way Complete Kit TK22112 (Part #TK22112) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the 22112-037 7-Way Prep Kit is designed for the Ram Promaster. The kit includes a T-One T-Connector that plugs into the vehicle's existing taillight connectors and a 7-way connector for trailer wiring.
The kit includes a T-One T-Connector harness with yellow and green wires, a T-One module with double-sided tape for mounting, a 7-way connector with seven wires (yellow, black, blue, brown, green, white, red), fuse holders, ring terminals, butt connectors, cable ties, and wiring for connection to the vehicle's battery and brake control system.
Required tools are: trim panel remover, 10 mm socket and ratchet or 10 mm wrench, drill with 3/32" drill bit, 1/4" socket, wire crimpers, wire cutters, Phillips head screwdriver, and test probe.
Yes. You must disconnect the vehicle's negative (−) battery cable before connecting wires to the positive (+) battery cable. This is done in step 9 of the installation. After all battery connections are complete and fuses are installed, reconnect the negative battery cable in step 11.
The battery is located under the floor covering, directly under the steering wheel on the driver's side.
Yes. You must open the rear door and remove the access panel doors on both sides to access the vehicle's wiring connectors. Several trim panel fasteners will need to be removed to access the panels. These items must be reinstalled at the end of installation.
Locate the connection points on the back of each taillight housing that match the ends of the T-Connector adapter. Disconnect the vehicle's wire harness. Beginning on the driver's side, plug the T-Connector harness containing the yellow wire between the vehicle's mating connectors. Be careful not to damage the locking tabs and ensure connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat for the passenger side using the T-Connector containing the green wire.
On the driver's side, route the T-Connector end with the green wire up through the trim panel access hole, across the top threshold, and through the passenger trim panel access hole. For ease of installation, attach the harness (two connectors) to fish wire and carefully pull toward the passenger side. The 7-way connector harness is routed down the opening behind the taillight on the driver's side, pulled through the grommet to the exterior of the vehicle, and to the 7-way mounting location.
Mount the T-One module on the driver's side using the double-sided tape provided. The module must be mounted so that the epoxy side points toward the ground to prevent water buildup.
Locate the existing ground stud on the vehicle. Attach the white wire with the ring terminal to the ground stud and re-tighten.
Route the power wire for the T-One module and the power wire for the 7-way connector following the green wire from step 4. Route the three wires with black sheathing up to the upper vehicle channel. Continue routing along the vehicle channel to the pillar near the driver's door. Route down the pillar, along the step in the driver's side doorway, and to the battery located under the floor covering directly under the steering wheel.
Place a 15 amp fuse in the fuse holder connected to the red wire. Place a 30 amp fuse in the fuse holder connected to the black wire. These fuses protect the circuits and must be installed before reconnecting the vehicle's negative battery cable.
The 7-way connector wires are: yellow = reverse function, black = ground/power, blue = electric brake control, brown = auxiliary, green = auxiliary, white = ground, and red = power. The T-Connector harness uses yellow and green wires. The Electric Brake Control Harness uses blue, black, white, and red wires with specific functions: blue and black connect to fuse holders, white connects to the negative battery terminal, and red connects to the negative side of the brake switch.
After disconnecting the vehicle's negative (−) battery cable, use fuse holders, ring terminals, and butt connectors to secure the wires to the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable as follows: red wire to 15 amp fuse holder, black wire to 30 amp fuse holder, blue wire to electric brake control harness blue wire, electric brake control harness black wire to 30 amp fuse holder, electric brake control harness white wire to negative (−) battery terminal, and electric brake control harness red wire to the negative side of the brake switch.
Do not exceed the lower of the vehicle manufacturer's rating or: maximum 2 stop/turn/backup lights per side (4.2 amps total), maximum tail lights (7.5 amps), and maximum 7-way 12 volt (30 amps). Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Consult the vehicle's owner's manual for additional information.
Secure the remainder of the harness with the cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling. Be careful to avoid any areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire. When reinstalling trim panels, floor covering, and other removed items, be careful not to pinch or cut the wires.
All connections must be complete for the T-One T-Connector to function properly. Test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle's electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
Reinstall the threshold, storage covers, floor covering, and other items removed during installation. Be careful not to pinch or cut the wires during reinstallation.
