UWS crossover truck tool boxes are the tried-and-true way of keeping your tools organized, on-hand and fully secure no matter where you and your truck roam. Each UWS tool box is built from extra-thick aluminum welded into a single-piece tub. This provides the tool box with reliable strength and helps keep the interior sealed off from the elements. Aluminum construction also makes the box highly resistant to corrosion for long-lasting use. To add even more strength to the crossover truck tool box, the lid features our patented RigidCore foam-filled design. Layered between two sheets of aluminum, this core greatly increases the structural integrity of the lid to prevent bending and warping and to ensure smooth opening and closing. The lid is able to open to a full 90 degrees, providing better access to tools, equipment and other stored items. It also features self-opening struts to make it easy to open the box when your hands are full. To keep out moisture, dirt and even insects, the lid is also fitted with a MicroSeal gasket that seals off the inside of the tool box from the outside elements. UWS crossover truck tool boxes make it easy to keep your tools and other items organized, featuring built-in screwdriver holders and a three-compartment sliding tool tray. The package includes: 1 crossover truck tool box, 1 key, 1 divider tray (not included with all models), 2 rail pads, 2 J-hooks (3"), 2 washers (1/4"), and 2 nuts (1/4"). Note that the divider tray is not included with all models, so check your specific package contents.
The tool box is designed to fit across truck bed rails. Before purchasing, verify your truck has accessible bed rails and sufficient clearance for the tool box with the lid open. During installation, you must check clearance between the open lid and the top and back of the cab. If you are unsure whether your specific truck is compatible, consult your dealer.
You will need: a ratchet, socket set, and tape measure. These are the only tools listed as required for installation.
Before installation, read all instructions thoroughly. During installation, you must: (1) check clearance with the lid open to ensure it does not interfere with the cab, (2) use a tape measure to center the tool box in the truck bed, (3) check under the truck bed to ensure the drill location (if drilling is required) does not puncture brake lines, fuel lines, electrical wires, fuel tanks or other components, and (4) ensure fasteners near the fuel tank do not create a risk of fuel tank puncture during a collision.
Place the tool box in the truck bed and check clearance with the lid open. Attach the adhesive side of the rail pads to the underside of the tool box ends. Place the tool box with the adhered rail pads on top of the truck bed rails. Use a tape measure to ensure the tool box is centered in the truck bed. Open the lid and verify there is clearance between the open lid and the top and back of the cab.
Place a J-hook under the lip of the bed rail and insert the threaded end up through the slot. Use only one hole and J-hook assembly on each side of the vehicle. Attach with a 1/4" washer and 1/4" nut. Snug the hardware but do not fully tighten at this stage. Repeat on the other side. After re-measuring to ensure the tool box is centered and lid clearance is correct, fully tighten all hardware.
The torque specification for 1/4" bolts is 3 ft-lbs. This is a general guideline. If you purchase additional hardware separately, use the torque specifications provided with that hardware instead.
If the strikers are out of alignment, loosen them, adjust to the correct position, and re-tighten. Periodically lubricate the strikers and locks to ensure optimum performance.
