UWS wedge utility chest boxes provide unbeatable storage and security for your items in the bed of your truck and on the jobsite. Each box features a corrosion-resistant aluminum construction, a stainless steel locking system and a patented RigidCore foam-filled lid -- all to keep your equipment and valuables safe, well-organized and easily accessible whenever needed. This particular tool box features a wedged design to optimize storage space without obstructing other accessories in the truck bed, including the wheel wells. Each UWS truck tool box is constructed from extra-thick aluminum for increased structural strength. The tub is welded together into a single piece for weather resistance and to easily hold heavy tools and other items. The lid features a patented foam core, sandwiched between two aluminum plates. This core greatly increases the rigidity of the lid and helps prevent bending and warping, making operation very smooth. The locking mechanism of the UWS truck tool box provides excellent security for your items, featuring stainless steel, key-operated paddle handles. Stainless steel construction supplies the locks with long-lasting corrosion resistance, and they feature an internal connecting rod that allows the lid to be opened from either side of the truck. For solid protection against the elements, the lid also has a MicroSeal gasket, blocking moisture, dust and insects from getting inside and damaging your valuables. The lid also opens a full 90 degrees for easier access, and it is equipped with self-opening struts for convenient operation when your hands are full. UWS utility chest boxes are available in multiple sizes to accommodate any storage need. The package includes one utility chest box and two keys. A mounting hardware kit may or may not be included depending on the model. If the mounting hardware kit #003-CBOXMK is not included, you will need to purchase your own hardware: two 5/16" or M8 bolts, four washers and two lock nuts.
The chest box can be installed on truck beds with raised ribs that can serve as mounting points. If your truck has a plastic drop-in bed liner, it may need to be trimmed or cut for proper attachment. Before drilling, you must check under your vehicle to ensure the drill location does not puncture brake lines, fuel lines, electrical wires, fuel tanks or other components.
You will need: a drill, 11/32" drill bit, 1/2" drill bit, ratchet, socket set and tape measure. If the mounting hardware kit #003-CBOXMK is not included with your chest box, you will also need to purchase two 5/16" or M8 bolts, four washers and two lock nuts.
Before drilling, check under your vehicle to ensure the drill location does not puncture, cut or obstruct any brake lines, fuel lines, electrical wires, fuel tanks or other components. Take special precaution that fasteners near the fuel tank do not create the possibility of fuel tank puncture or damage during a collision. If your truck has a plastic drop-in bed liner, it may need to be trimmed or cut for proper attachment.
Place the chest box into your desired location and check that the lid operates properly. In the bottom of the chest box, select two mounting points that are aligned with the raised ribs in your truck bed. These ribs will provide structural support for the mounting bolts.
Use an 11/32" drill bit to drill through the chest box and truck bed. If you are using the mounting hardware kit #003-CBOXMK, you will then need to enlarge the holes in the truck bed with a 1/2" drill bit and follow the instructions included with that kit.
Yes. After installation, treat or seal all fasteners and exposed metal in any holes drilled in the vehicle to prevent corrosion. Use a silicone-type caulk as needed to fill in any open areas around the bolt flat washer or bonded washer inside the chest box to prevent water from seeping into the chest box.
The recommended torque for 5/16" bolts is 7 ft-lbs. This applies to the two 5/16" bolts used to secure the chest box to the truck bed. If you purchase hardware separately, use the torque specifications provided with that hardware.
The recommended torque for M8 bolts is 7 ft-lbs. M8 bolts are an alternative to 5/16" bolts for securing the chest box to the truck bed. If you purchase hardware separately, use the torque specifications provided with that hardware.
You need two mounting points. If installing without the mounting hardware kit #003-CBOXMK, you will need two 5/16" or M8 bolts, four washers and two lock nuts. These fasteners secure the chest box through the bottom and into the truck bed.
1. Place the chest box in the desired location and check lid operation. 2. Select two mounting points aligned with truck bed ribs. 3. Check under the vehicle to ensure drilling will not damage brake lines, fuel lines, wires or tanks. 4. Drill through the chest box and truck bed with an 11/32" drill bit. 5. Install fasteners (either standard bolts or use the #003-CBOXMK kit and enlarge holes to 1/2"). 6. Tighten all fasteners to recommended torque values. 7. Use silicone caulk to seal around washers to prevent water seepage. 8. Adjust strikers if needed and lubricate locks.
Chest boxes come with adjustable strikers. If the strikers are ever out of alignment, simply loosen, adjust and re-tighten them. Periodically lubricate the strikers and locks to ensure optimum performance.
Do not use this product for storing or transporting flammables, explosives, hazardous materials or hazardous waste, such as containers of gasoline, solvents, gun powder, dynamite, propane tanks, acetylene tanks and cutting torches. Danger of explosion exists if these items are stored in the chest box.
Yes. This product can reduce the driver's ability to clearly see roadways, vehicular or pedestrian traffic and other objects through the rear and side windows of the vehicle, which may cause an accident. Extra precaution should be taken when driving a vehicle with this product installed.
Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended capacity. The manual does not specify a weight capacity for the chest box itself; you must consult your vehicle's manufacturer specifications to determine the maximum load your truck bed can safely carry.
After installation, ensure all knobs, bolts, screws, straps and locks are firmly secured. Periodically re-tighten and inspect all components for signs of wear, corrosion and fatigue. With the chest box installed, periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight.
For polished, gloss and other smooth finishes, polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs. Mild automotive detergent may be used to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or other similar products that may damage the finish. Periodically lubricate the strikers and locks to ensure optimum performance.
