UWS wedge utility chest boxes provide unbeatable storage and security for your items in the bed of your truck and on the jobsite. Each box features a corrosion-resistant aluminum construction, a stainless steel locking system and a patented RigidCore foam-filled lid -- all to keep your equipment and valuables safe, well-organized and easily accessible whenever needed. This particular tool box features a wedged design to optimize storage space without obstructing other accessories in the truck bed, including the wheel wells. Each UWS truck tool box is constructed from extra-thick aluminum for increased structural strength. The tub is welded together into a single piece for weather resistance and to easily hold heavy tools and other items. The lid features a patented foam core, sandwiched between two aluminum plates. This core greatly increases the rigidity of the lid and helps prevent bending and warping, making operation very smooth. The locking mechanism of the UWS truck tool box provides excellent security for your items, featuring stainless steel, key-operated paddle handles. Stainless steel construction supplies the locks with long-lasting corrosion resistance, and they feature an internal connecting rod that allows the lid to be opened from either side of the truck. For solid protection against the elements, the lid also has a MicroSeal gasket, blocking moisture, dust and insects from getting inside and damaging your valuables. The lid also opens a full 90 degrees for easier access, and it is equipped with self-opening struts for convenient operation when your hands are full. UWS utility chest boxes are available in multiple sizes to accommodate any storage need. The package includes one utility chest box and two keys. A mounting hardware kit (part number 003-CBOXMK) may or may not be included depending on the model. If the kit is not included, you will need to purchase your own hardware to install the chest box.
The chest box is designed for general utility storage in a truck bed. However, it must never be used for storing or transporting flammables, explosives, hazardous materials or hazardous waste, including gasoline, solvents, gunpowder, dynamite, propane tanks, acetylene tanks and cutting torches. Additionally, never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended capacity.
The chest box is designed for truck bed installation. Before purchasing, verify that your truck bed has raised ribs that can serve as mounting points, and that you have adequate space for the box. If your truck has a plastic drop-in bed liner, it may need to be trimmed or cut for proper attachment. Consult your dealer if you have questions about fitment for your specific vehicle.
You will need a drill, 11/32" drill bit, 1/2" drill bit, ratchet, tape measure, and socket set. The installation is rated as Easy difficulty.
If the mounting hardware kit is not included, you will need two 5/16" or M8 bolts, four washers and two lock nuts. These fasteners are installed through the bottom of the chest box and truck bed.
Before drilling, check under your vehicle to ensure the drill location does not puncture, cut or obstruct any brake or fuel fluid lines, electrical wires, fuel tanks, or other components. Take precaution that all fasteners near the fuel tank do not create the possibility of fuel tank puncture or other damage during a collision.
Place the chest box in your desired location and check for proper lid operation. In the bottom of the chest box, select two mounting points that are aligned with the raised ribs in your truck bed. These ribs provide structural support for the fasteners.
Use an 11/32" drill bit to drill through the chest box and truck bed. If you are using the mounting hardware kit #003-CBOXMK, you will need to enlarge the holes in the truck bed with a 1/2" drill bit and follow the instructions included with that kit.
If your truck has a plastic drop-in bed liner, it may need to be trimmed or cut for proper attachment of the chest box. Check the fit before drilling to determine if trimming is necessary.
The recommended torque specification for 5/16" SAE bolts is 7 ft-lbs. If you are using M8 metric bolts instead, the torque specification is also 7 ft-lbs. These are general guidelines; if you purchase hardware separately, use the torque specifications provided with that hardware.

After drilling and installing the bolts, washers and lock nuts, tighten all fasteners to the recommended torque values shown on page 1 of the manual. For 5/16" or M8 bolts, the torque specification is 7 ft-lbs. Use a ratchet and socket set to achieve proper tightness. Do not over-tighten.
Yes. Use a silicone-type caulk as needed to fill in any open areas around the bolt flat washer or bonded washer inside the chest box to prevent water from seeping into the chest box.
The chest box comes with adjustable strikers. If the strikers are ever out of alignment, simply loosen, adjust and re-tighten them to ensure proper lid closure.
The chest box can reduce your ability to clearly see roadways, vehicular or pedestrian traffic and other objects through the rear and side windows of your vehicle, which may cause an accident. Extra precaution should be taken when driving. Additionally, ensure all knobs, bolts, screws, straps and locks are firmly secured before every trip.
No. Do not interfere with factory-installed safety equipment. The chest box must be installed in a way that does not obstruct or damage any factory safety systems.
Yes. Treat or seal all fasteners and exposed metal in any holes drilled in your vehicle to prevent corrosion. This protects your truck bed from rust and extends the life of the installation.
After installation, ensure all knobs, bolts, screws, straps and locks are firmly secured. Verify that the lid operates properly and that the strikers are properly aligned. Check that the chest box is securely mounted and does not shift or move.
Periodically re-tighten and inspect all components for signs of wear, corrosion and fatigue. Periodically lubricate the strikers and locks to ensure optimum performance. For polished, gloss and other smooth finishes, polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs. Clean the product with mild automotive detergent. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or other similar products that may damage the finish.
