The hitch includes: 4× M12×1.75 hex head cap screws (grade 10.9), 4× S-CON washers (1/2"), 1× 1/4" washer, 1× M6–1.00×20 hex bolt, 1× 7/16" fishwire, 1× 0.250×0.88×2.25" square hole spacer, 6× 7/16"–14 UNC handle nuts (grade 8), and 6× 7/16"–14 UNC carriage bolts, 1¾" long (grade 8).
Yes, on 2002 and earlier models you must remove the heat shield before installation. After installing the hitch, trim the heat shield as required for re-fit and re-install it using existing fasteners, except over the hitch bracket where you must use the new 6mm hex bolt and flat washer supplied with the hitch.
Drilling is required on some vehicles. The installation method depends on whether your vehicle has weld nuts in the frame. If it does, you will drill center holes using the hitch as a template. If your vehicle does not have frame weld nuts, no drilling is required; instead, fishwire carriage bolts and spacers are used.

Use the hitch as a template to locate and drill center holes. 4. Install carriage bolts and spacers as shown in the diagram. 5. Torque all 12mm fasteners to 79 lb-ft and all 7/16" fasteners to 70 lb-ft. 6. Trim and re-install the heat shield using existing fasteners, except over the hitch bracket where you use the new 6mm hex bolt and flat washer; torque the 6mm bolt to 9 lb-ft.
