Yes, the Curt 55382 Custom Wiring Harness is designed for Jeep Liberty SUVs. It is compatible with the vehicle's taillight connectors and mounting locations behind the driver and passenger side taillights.
The Curt 55382 has two amperage ratings: Signal Circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side, and Tail/Running Circuits are rated at 5.0 amps total. You must not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Exceeding the rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
You will need a T-20 Torx bit and a Phillips screwdriver. The T-20 Torx bit is used to remove the taillight mounting screws, and the Phillips screwdriver may be needed for other fasteners during installation.
Yes, you must disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation. This is the first step in the installation process and is essential for safety when working with the vehicle's electrical system.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a maximum 10-amp fuse. Exceeding this fuse rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire. Do not exceed the product rating or tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
The screws holding the driver and passenger side taillights in place are located by the hinge on the inside of the taillight housing. You will need to open the tailgate to access them.
1. Open the tailgate. 2. Locate the two screws by the hinge on the inside of the taillight. 3. Remove the screws using a T-20 Torx bit. 4. Gently pull the taillight rearward and out. Take care not to damage the alignment tabs during removal.
1. Locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors. 2. Separate the connectors from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. 3. Insert the custom wiring harness end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors. 4. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
You may need to drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the ground screw, depending on your vehicle. First, locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable existing point is available, drill a 3/32" pilot hole. The area should be free of rust, dirt and paint before securing the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. The area where you plan to drill should be free of rust, dirt and paint.
Route the custom wiring harness end with the green wire down the opening behind the taillight on the driver's side. Then route the harness containing the green wire underneath the vehicle and up through the opening behind the passenger side taillight.
Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape. The converter box should be mounted in a location that is accessible but out of the way.
When not in use, roll up the 4-flat connector and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location. When in use, route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
1. Reinstall all items removed during installation. 2. Reconnect the negative battery terminal. 3. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. 4. Test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer.
