The Curt 13650 receiver hitch is designed for Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute, and Mercury Mariner models from 2007 and newer, but only for vehicles without factory-installed hitches. If your vehicle already has an OEM hitch, this product is not compatible. Confirm your model year and whether your vehicle has a factory hitch before purchasing.
Yes, the Curt 13650 is compatible with Mazda Tribute and Mercury Mariner models from 2007 and newer, provided the vehicle does not have a factory-installed hitch. The installation procedure is the same across all three vehicle models.
The hitch weight is 60 lbs.
The hitch includes 6 carriage bolts (1/2-13 UNC, 1-3/4", grade 8, part 10-10272), 6 square hole spacers (combination of .250 x 1.00 x 3.00" and .375 x 1.25 x 2.50"), 6 conical toothed washers (part 30-00149), 6 hex nuts (1/2-13 UNC, grade 8, part 20-00171), and 4 pieces of 1/2" fishwire (part 1_2 FISHWIRE) to pull the fasteners through the frame rail.
You will need a ratchet, 3/4" socket, a torque wrench, and a die grinder with a carbide bit. The die grinder is required only if drilling is necessary to enlarge the frame rail holes.
Drilling may be required depending on your vehicle. If your vehicle has access to the frame rail ends (some vehicles have tie-down hooks that allow this), you can thread the bolts and spacers through the frame rail ends without drilling. If frame rail end access is not available, you will need to drill and enlarge the existing frame rail holes to allow the spacer and bolt to pass through. The manual indicates this is vehicle-dependent.
Possibly. If your vehicle is equipped with an exhaust vibration dampener that interferes with the hitch side plate, you will need to bend or pry the dampener away from the side plate as needed. The manual notes this as a potential requirement but does not specify which vehicle model years are affected.
Follow these steps: (1) Use the fishwire to pull carriage bolts and square hole spacers through the frame rail holes or frame rail ends and into position. (2) Place the spacer over the bolt on the passenger side and raise the hitch into position, then hand-tighten the fasteners. (3) Fishwire the remaining fasteners into position and secure them with conical toothed washers and hex nuts. (4) Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft.
All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 lb-ft. This applies to the carriage bolts, washers, and hex nuts that secure the hitch to the vehicle frame.
The manual specifies gross load capacity ratings for both weight-carrying and weight-distribution modes, but the specific values are not filled in on this copy of the manual. You must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Contact Curt Manufacturing technical support at 1-877-287-8634 for the exact capacity specifications for your hitch.
After installation, ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. The manual recommends periodically checking the receiver hitch throughout its use to maintain these conditions.
You should periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but regular inspection before towing is recommended.
No. The Curt 13650 is designed only for Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute, and Mercury Mariner (2007+) without OEM hitches.
Drilling may be required depending on your vehicle. If your vehicle allows access to frame rail ends, no drilling is needed. Otherwise, you must drill and enlarge the frame rail holes.
Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft using a torque wrench.
Only if your vehicle has an exhaust vibration dampener that interferes with the side plate. If so, bend or pry it away as needed.
You need a ratchet, 3/4" socket, torque wrench, and a die grinder with carbide bit (for drilling, if required).
