The 06-12 Ford Fusion CURT 4-flat Plug and Play Trailer Wiring (Part #CTW953) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the Curt 56048 is designed for Ford Fusion passenger cars. The harness connects behind the driver and passenger side taillight housings inside the trunk.
The harness is rated for Signal Circuits at 3.0 amps per side and Tail/Running Circuits at 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed these ratings or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower, as exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
You will need a Phillips screwdriver, flat blade screwdriver, and panel trim removal tool. A 3/32" drill bit may be needed if a suitable existing grounding point is not available.
The manual does not explicitly state whether the battery must be disconnected. However, the instructions reference routing the black power wire from the vehicle battery in Step 7, and a 10-amp fuse is required for the battery connection. Consult your vehicle owner's manual or the included CME-PCL-INS sheet for battery disconnection requirements.
1. Open the trunk and remove floor coverings and rear scuff panel. 2. On the driver side, locate the taillight wiring connectors and separate them. 3. Insert the harness end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors. 4. Secure the white ground wire to a suitable grounding point. 5. Route the harness end with the green wire to the passenger side and repeat steps 2–3. 6. Adhere the black converter box inside the vehicle near the taillight using double-sided tape. 7. Route the black power wire from the battery as shown on the included CME-PCL-INS sheet. 8. Route the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk when in use; roll up and store in the trunk when not in use. 9. Reinstall all removed items and install the 4-flat dust cover.
Remove the plastic fasteners securing the rear scuff panel, then pull out on the bottom and pull up. Take care not to damage the alignment tabs on the back of the panel.
Pull back the felt liner to locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors. Separate the connectors from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Insert the custom wiring harness end (yellow wire for driver side, green wire for passenger side) between the separated connectors. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
Drilling may be required. If a suitable existing grounding point (such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame) is not available near the connector, you will need to drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided grounding screw. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
The pilot hole should be 3/32" in diameter.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
The yellow wire is used on the driver side, the green wire on the passenger side, and the white wire is the ground wire. The black power wire connects to the vehicle battery. The 4-flat connector is routed to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk when in use.
Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.
When not in use, roll up the 4-flat connector and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness functions properly. Once installed, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer.
Reinstall all items removed during installation, including the rear scuff panel and trunk floor coverings. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
Yes, the Curt 56048 is designed for Ford Fusion passenger cars.
A 10-amp maximum fuse is required for the battery connection. Do not exceed this rating.
Signal Circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side; Tail/Running Circuits at 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed these ratings or the tow vehicle lamp load rating.
