Yes, the CURT 13142 is designed specifically for 2010-2012 Mercedes-Benz GLK350 4MATIC SUVs. This is a weight-carrying hitch with a gross load capacity of 3,500 lbs trailer weight and 350 lbs tongue weight. Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
The CURT 13142 has a gross load capacity of 3,500 lbs trailer weight and 350 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower.
Required tools are: power drill, 1/2" drill bit, die grinder, socket wrench, 10mm socket, 11/16" socket, 3/4" socket, 4" socket extension, and torque wrench. Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation.
Yes. You must lower the exhaust by removing 2 isolators on the driver side muffler, 2 isolators on the passenger side muffler, and 2 isolators forward of the mufflers. Tie up the exhaust with wire high enough to avoid damaging the exhaust tubes. After installation is complete, raise the exhaust back into position.
Yes. You must enlarge the existing slot in the bottom of both the driver and passenger side bumper beams large enough to allow the threaded portion of a 7/16" carriage bolt to pass through. Use a power drill and die grinder for this modification.
Fishwire is a method of routing fasteners through tight spaces. For the CURT 13142, you use 7/16" fishwire to thread 7/16" x 1 1/4" carriage bolts and CM-SP2 spacers through access holes in the bumper fascia and out through the enlarged holes in the bumper beams. The manual includes a fishwire technique diagram showing the proper method.
Locate the channel behind the driver side bumper fascia that leads to the access hole in the driver side bumper beam. Use the fishwire technique to thread the 7/16" x 1 1/4" carriage bolt and CM-SP2 spacer through this access hole and out through the enlarged hole in the bumper beam. The manual includes a diagram showing the driver side fishwire location on page 2.
Locate the square access cover on the outside of the bumper fascia on the passenger side. Push in on the side of the cover with the arrow to open it. Use the fishwire technique to thread the 7/16" x 1 1/4" carriage bolt and CM-SP2 spacer through the fascia access hole and out through the enlarged hole in the passenger side bumper beam. Replace the access cover by inserting the arrow side first and pushing the driver side in until it snaps into position.
No. All fasteners must be finger-tightened initially as you assemble the hitch. Only after the hitch is fully positioned and all bolts are in place should you apply final torque. This allows for proper alignment before final tightening.
Torque all 1/2-13 x 5" hex bolts to 75 lb-ft. Torque all remaining 1/2" hardware to 110 lb-ft. Torque all 7/16" hardware to 59 lb-ft. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightness.
Slide the hitch as far forward as possible, but do not let it rest on the weld seam on the vehicle bumper beams. This positioning is critical to avoid structural damage and ensure proper hitch function.
The kit includes: 4 x 7/16-14 UNC Grade 8 serrated flange nuts, 4 x 1/2-13 UNC 2-1/2" Grade 8 hex cap screws, 12 x 1/2" conical toothed washers, 2 x 7/16" fishwire, 2 x 7/16-14 UNC 1" Grade 8 carriage bolts, 2 x 7/16-14 UNC 1-1/4" Grade 8 carriage bolts, 2 x 0.250 x 0.88 x 2.25" square hole spacers (CM-SP2), 8 x 1/2-13 UNC 5" Grade 8 hex cap screws, and 3 x nut plate weldments (CM-NP1W).
Yes. Remove the 2 screws securing the rear fascia to the underbody panel in step 3. Save these screws for reinstallation in step 20 after the hitch installation is complete.
All non-trailer loads applied to this hitch must be supported by auxiliary stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This ongoing inspection helps maintain the integrity and safety of the installation.
Two people may be required to ease installation. The installation is rated as moderate to challenging difficulty. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance. For technical support, call 877-287-8634.

1/2-13 x 5" bolts: 75 lb-ft. All other 1/2" hardware: 110 lb-ft. All 7/16" hardware: 59 lb-ft.
3,500 lbs trailer weight and 350 lbs tongue weight. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Periodically check that all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. Verify proper hitch positioning and alignment.
Reposition the hitch. The manual explicitly states to slide the hitch as far forward as possible but not so it rests on the weld seam on the vehicle bumper beams. Resting on the weld seam can cause structural damage and improper hitch function. Adjust the hitch position before final torque is applied.
Ensure you are inserting the arrow side of the cover first, then pushing the driver side in until it snaps back into position. If it still does not snap, verify that the carriage bolt and spacer are properly positioned through the access hole and that nothing is obstructing the cover's path.
