Yes, the CURT 13236 is designed for 2015-present Dodge Charger sedans. It is also compatible with 2015-present Chrysler 300S and 300C sedans, and 2011-present Dodge Challenger sedans. Confirm your vehicle matches these model years and body styles before purchasing.
Yes, the CURT 13236 fits both V6 and V8 models of the 2015-present Charger. The installation procedure differs slightly between engine types: V6 models have one nut on the exhaust clamp holding the driver side muffler, while V8 models have two nuts with springs. Both configurations are supported.
The manual specifies a maximum trailer weight of 3500 lbs and tongue weight of 350 lbs when used as a weight carrying hitch. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower. Check your vehicle's owner manual for the final towing limit.
You will need: ratchet, torque wrench, 6-inch socket extension, universal joint socket, 13 mm socket, 15 mm socket, 19 mm socket, 3/4-inch socket, and safety glasses. No power tools or drilling equipment is required.
Yes, temporary removal of the driver side muffler is required. On V6 models, you remove one nut from the exhaust clamp. On V8 models, you remove two nuts with springs. Save all fasteners for reinstallation. The muffler is slid back into position after the hitch is secured.
Remove two exhaust isolators near the muffler on the driver and passenger side of the vehicle, and two rubber isolators from the exhaust pipe. Save all bolts and fasteners for reinstallation. These are removed in steps 1 and 2 of the installation process.
Two people may be required to ease installation. While not explicitly stated as mandatory, the manual recommends having a second person available to help with the process.
No drilling is required. The hitch uses existing holes in the frame rails and existing weldnuts for attachment. The installation is described as a 'no drill' installation.
1. Remove two exhaust isolators (driver and passenger side) and save bolts. 2. Remove two rubber isolators from exhaust pipe. 3. Remove driver side muffler fasteners (one nut on V6, two nuts with springs on V8) and temporarily slide muffler off. 4. Fishwire 1/2-inch carriage bolts and CM-SP40 spacers through frame rail access holes. 5. Raise hitch into position, passenger side first, then driver side. 6. Secure with M12 hardware and conical washers, attach 1/2-inch hex flange nuts. 7. Reattach driver side muffler. 8. Raise exhaust and reattach isolators and hangers.
Fishwire is a technique for pulling hardware through tight or hidden spaces. In this installation, you thread 1/2-inch carriage bolts and CM-SP40 spacers through the access holes in the driver and passenger side frame rails, then pull the hardware through the existing holes (two on the passenger side, one on the driver side) to position them for hitch attachment.
Torque 1/2-inch hardware (carriage bolts and hex flange nuts) to 110 lb-ft. Torque M12 hardware (HHCS bolts with conical toothed washers) to 79 lb-ft. Use a torque wrench to achieve these specifications.
Place the passenger side of the hitch over the passenger side muffler first, then raise the driver side of the hitch into position. This sequence helps align the hitch properly with the frame rails and existing attachment points.
The kit includes: three CM-SP40 square hole spacers (0.188 x 1.00 x 3.00 inches), three 1/2-13 UNC carriage bolts (1-3/4 inches, grade 8), one M12x1.75 HHCS bolt (40 mm, class 10.9), one 1/2-inch conical toothed washer, three 1/2-inch fishwire pieces, and three 1/2-13 UNC serrated flange nuts (grade 8). All fasteners are zinc-plated.
Fascia removal is optional and recommended only for vehicles with welded exhaust systems. If you choose to remove it, remove plastic push pins from the wheel well liner on each side, pull back the liner, remove the hidden screw using a 10 mm socket on each side, remove remaining screws and push pins along the bottom of the fascia, remove nuts holding the underbody panel to the trunk pan, gently remove the fascia, and unplug wiring. Set it aside for reinstallation after the hitch is installed.
Wear safety glasses at all times during installation. Read all instructions thoroughly before beginning. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for assistance. Call technical support at 877-287-8634 if you have questions.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This ongoing maintenance is critical to safe operation. Perform these checks regularly throughout the life of the hitch.
All non-trailer loads applied to this hitch must be supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. This applies to any load that is not a standard trailer.
The installation is rated as moderate difficulty. Professional installation takes approximately 45 minutes, while novice DIY installation takes approximately 90 minutes. The moderate rating reflects the need to temporarily remove the driver side muffler and work with exhaust components.
