Yes, the Curt 56284 is designed for Honda HR-V vehicles. It is also compatible with SUVs, mini and full-sized vans in the S category.
The harness has two circuit ratings: signal circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side, and tail/running circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. You must not exceed the product rating or your tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
You will need: 8mm socket, 10mm socket, ratchet, panel trim removal tool, Phillips screwdriver, flat blade screwdriver, wire stripper, crimping tool, and cutting tool.
Yes, you must disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation. This is the first step in the installation process.
The yellow wire end connects on the driver side. Insert it between the separated taillight housing connectors after locating the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors behind the side trim panel. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
The green wire end connects on the passenger side. Route it under the scuff panel and repeat the same connection process as the driver side: insert it between the separated taillight housing connectors and ensure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw. You must do this on the driver side.
Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
When not in use, roll up the 4-flat connector and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location. When in use, route it to the center of the vehicle. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Reinstall all items removed during installation and reconnect the negative battery terminal. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided ground screw if a suitable existing screw with nut is not available in the vehicle frame.
Open the vehicle tailgate and remove the two fasteners securing the trunk floor covering, then remove the cover.
Pull out on the bottom of the scuff panel and then pull up. Take care not to damage the locking tabs on the back.
Starting on the driver side, pull back on the side trim panel to locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors. The connectors will be similar to those on the custom wiring harness. Separate the connectors from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs.
The Curt 56284 is designed for Honda HR-V and SUVs, mini and full-sized vans in the S category.
Drilling may be required if no suitable existing screw with nut is available in the vehicle frame for the ground wire. If drilling is needed, you will drill a 3/32" pilot hole.
A 10-amp maximum fuse is required for the battery connection. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
