Yes, CURT part number 13439 is designed for 2018-Present GMC Terrain SUVs. Before purchasing, verify your vehicle matches this model and year range, and confirm that your vehicle's towing capacity meets or exceeds the hitch specifications.
When used as a weight-carrying hitch, the maximum trailer weight is 4,500 lbs. and tongue weight is 675 lbs. When used as a weight-distribution hitch, the same capacities apply. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
The hitch weight is 30 lbs.
Required tools are: ratchet, 15 mm and 3/4" sockets, 6" socket extension, T15 Torx bit socket, pry bar, torque wrench, rotary tool, and safety glasses. Proper tools greatly improve installation quality and reduce installation time.
The hitch includes: 6 carriage bolts (1/2-13 UNC, 1-1/2", Grade 8, part number 10-10287), 6 serrated flange nuts (1/2-13 UNC, Grade 8, part number 20-00062), 6 square hole spacers (0.250 x 1.00 x 3.00", part number CM-SP6), and 6 pieces of 1/2" fishwire (part number 1_2 FISHWIRE).
No drilling is required. The hitch uses existing frame rail access holes. However, you must slightly enlarge the access holes on both the driver and passenger side frame rails to allow the hardware to fit.
Yes. You must slightly enlarge the access holes on both the driver and passenger side frame rails to allow the hardware to fit. The manual indicates the access hole diameter is approximately 1.08". Use a rotary tool to enlarge the holes. This is a permanent modification to the vehicle frame.
Yes. The exhaust must be temporarily lowered during installation. Remove the 4 bolts from the rear exhaust hanger brackets (2 per side) using a 15 mm socket, then remove the exhaust rubber isolator in front of the muffler. Be sure to support the exhaust during this process. After hitch installation is complete, reinstall the exhaust.
Two people may be required to ease installation. The manual recommends reading all instructions thoroughly before beginning and notes that using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce the time required. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance.
Professional installation time is approximately 60 minutes. Novice (DIY) installation time is approximately 45 minutes. Actual time may vary depending on experience and familiarity with the vehicle.
The first step is to locate and remove the 2 Torx screws from the rear fascia. Save these screws for reinstallation at the end of the installation process.
After enlarging the access holes on both frame rails, utilize the access hole to fishwire one 1/2" carriage bolt and one spacer into each of the three mounting holes in both frame rails. This allows you to position the bolts through the frame without fully inserting them, making it easier to align the hitch before final tightening.
Raise the hitch into position and secure it to the vehicle using 6 of the 1/2" hex flange nuts (part number 20-00062) included with the hitch. Each nut fastens one of the carriage bolts that was previously fishwired into the frame rails.
Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lb. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightening. After installation, periodically check that all fasteners remain tight.
After torquing the 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lb, reinstall the exhaust and the 2 Torx fascia screws that were removed in step 1. This completes the installation.
After installation, verify that all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. The manual recommends periodically checking the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners remain tight and all structural components remain in good condition throughout the life of the hitch.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but regular inspection is recommended to maintain safe operation.
Safety glasses should be worn at all times while installing this product. When lowering the exhaust, be sure to support it properly to prevent injury or damage. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity when using the hitch.
Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. CURT part number 13439 is rated for a maximum trailer weight of 4,500 lbs. and tongue weight of 675 lbs. when used as either a weight-carrying or weight-distribution hitch. However, your vehicle's manufacturer may specify a lower capacity, which must be observed.
CURT part number 13439 complies with safety specifications and requirements for connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5 and SAE J684.
