Yes, you must temporarily remove the exhaust deflector by removing 2 fasteners. The deflector is removed to allow the hitch to be raised into position by sliding the passenger side plate over the exhaust first. After securing the hitch, reinstall the exhaust deflector.
Required tools are: ratchet, torque wrench, 9-inch extension, safety glasses, sockets (11/16", 10mm, 19mm), straight screwdriver, and Phillips screwdriver.
The hitch includes: 4 M12x1.25x35mm hex head cap screws (part 10-10275), 2 7/16-14 UNC 1-1/2" carriage bolts (part 10-10282), 2 7/16-14 UNC serrated flange nuts (part 20-00103), 4 1/2" conical toothed washers (part 30-00149), 2 0.250 x 0.88 x 2.25" square hole spacers (part CM-SP2), and 2 7/16" fishwires (part 7_16 FISHWIRE).
1. Remove the underbody panel (6 fasteners) and temporarily remove the exhaust deflector (2 fasteners). 2. Reverse fishwire the 2 carriage bolts and CM-SP2 spacers into the existing holes in the frame rails, leaving fishwires attached. 3. Clean the weldnuts near the end of each frame rail of debris and rust. 4. Raise the hitch into position by sliding the passenger side plate over the exhaust first, then secure using M12-1.25 x 35mm bolts, 1/2" conical toothed washers, and 7/16" flange nuts. 5. Torque all 12mm hardware to 86 lb-ft and all 7/16" hardware to 59 lb-ft. Reinstall the exhaust deflector.
Reverse fishwire refers to using the fishwire (a flexible wire tool) to guide the carriage bolts and spacers into the existing access holes in the bottom of the frame rails from underneath the vehicle. The fishwires remain attached to the bolts during this process to help position them correctly before final tightening.
All 12mm hardware (M12-1.25 x 35mm bolts) must be torqued to 86 lb-ft.
All 7/16" hardware (7/16-14 UNC carriage bolts and flange nuts) must be torqued to 59 lb-ft.
