The 19-22 Toyota Prius AWD-e CURT 4-flat Plug and Play Trailer Wiring (Part #CTW2416) fits 2019-2022 Toyota Prius AWD-e models. The 2022 model year is the last year covered by this part number. For newer models, check for an updated version.
The 19-22 Toyota Prius AWD-e CURT 4-flat Plug and Play Trailer Wiring (Part #CTW2416) fits the following vehicles: 2019-2022 Toyota Prius AWD-e. Always verify your specific year, make, and model before ordering.
Yes, the 19-22 Toyota Prius AWD-e CURT 4-flat Plug and Play Trailer Wiring (Part #CTW2416) is designed to fit the 2019-2022 Toyota Prius AWD-e.
The 19-22 Toyota Prius AWD-e CURT 4-flat Plug and Play Trailer Wiring (Part #CTW2416) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The CURT 56439 is a powered converter wiring harness designed to convert a vehicle's taillight signals into trailer lighting signals. It includes a converter box that processes the vehicle's electrical signals and outputs them through a 4-flat connector for trailer use. The system is rated for 3.0 amps per side on signal circuits and 6.0 amps total on tail/running circuits.
The CURT 56439 is designed for passenger cars with 12-volt negative ground electrical systems. The manual states it is for use only on 12-volt negative ground systems. The wiring locations shown are for passenger cars (P3, P5, P6). For specific vehicle compatibility, consult the vehicle owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer.
Required tools are: ratchet, cutting tool, 10mm socket, wire crimper, socket extension, wire stripper, small flathead screwdriver, electrical tape, and panel trim removal tool. These tools are needed for removing fasteners, cutting the grommet, stripping and crimping wires, and removing interior trim panels.
The kit includes a custom wiring harness with yellow and green wire ends, a black converter box, a white ground wire with ring terminal, a ground screw, double-sided tape for mounting the converter, cable ties, sealant for the grommet, a 4-flat dust cover, and a 10-amp fuse holder with fuse.
Yes. Step 1 requires you to locate the vehicle battery and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Fasten this wire down and away from the battery during installation. The negative battery must remain disconnected until Step 13, after all other wiring is complete and before connecting the 12-volt power wire.
You must remove: all trunk floor coverings and filler panels, the plastic filler in the center of the trunk (behind rear seats), two 10mm cargo hold-down bolts, push fasteners in the vehicle threshold, sidewall fastener covers on both sides of the trunk hatch, side trunk liners, and the access panel to the underside of the vehicle.
On the driver side, use a panel trim removal tool to loosen the sidewall panel and felt liner. Pull back the felt liner to locate the vehicle taillight wiring connectors. Separate the connectors from the taillight housing carefully without damaging the locking tabs. Insert the custom wiring harness end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors, ensuring they are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat on the passenger side with the green wire harness end, routing it along the rear of the vehicle and securing with zip ties under the threshold.
Drilling may be required. Step 7 requires cutting the grommet to allow wiring to pass through. Step 11 requires locating a grounding point near the converter box; if an existing screw or bolt is not available, you must drill a 3/32-inch pilot hole. Before drilling, check for hidden items behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Locate the grommet just to the driver side of the center of the vehicle in the rear body. Remove the grommet from the body. Using a wire cutter, make a cut into the grommet big enough to allow the wiring to be placed inside the mounting groove. Be careful not to cut any wires. Reseat the grommet and use the provided sealant to seal the cut and around all wires. Apply additional sealant as needed to ensure a tight seal and keep the trunk dry.
Signal circuits are rated for 3.0 amps per side. Tail/running circuits are rated for 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire.
The wiring harness includes: yellow wire for left turn signal, green wire for right turn signal, red wire for brake signal, and brown wire for taillight. The converter box has a black power wire that connects to the vehicle battery positive terminal and a white ground wire with ring terminal that connects to the vehicle body.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. The kit includes a fuse holder with a 10-amp fuse. Install the fuse after all other steps are complete, as the final step before reconnecting the negative battery terminal.
Route the 12-gauge black power wire from the vehicle battery to the converter, taking care to avoid pinch points and hot or rotating components. When passing the power wire through sheet metal, use an existing grommet, add a grommet, or use silicone to protect the wire from sharp edges. Secure the power wire to the vehicle chassis using the provided cable ties.
Mount the black converter box on the driver side, in a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight, using the provided double-sided tape. The box must be mounted in a protected area. Failure to mount it in a protected area can cause loss of warranty, product failure, overheating, and potential fire.
Locate a grounding point near the converter box, such as an existing screw or bolt in the vehicle frame. The area should be free from rust, dirt, and paint; use an abrasive pad or paper to clean it if necessary. Secure the white ground wire with its ring terminal to the existing fastener, or drill a 3/32-inch pilot hole and use the provided ground screw.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. Disconnect the negative battery terminal before wiring the power wire. Route the power wire to avoid pinch points and hot or rotating components. Use a ring terminal for the battery connection. Do not exceed the product rating or tow vehicle lamp load rating. Ensure the converter box is mounted in a protected area.
After connecting the 12-volt power wire to the harness, verify that the harness is functioning by attaching the battery and testing with a test light, 4-flat tester, or a functioning trailer. The manual states that once installed, you should test for proper function using one of these methods.
Reinstall all items removed during installation. If the negative battery terminal was disconnected at the beginning, reconnect it. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. When not in use, roll up and store the 4-flat connector in a convenient, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. This helps maintain proper function and prevent electrical issues.
