Yes, CURT part number 13448 is designed for 2019-present Subaru Ascent SUVs. This is a weight-carrying hitch with a 5,000 lb trailer weight capacity and 750 lb tongue weight capacity. Always verify your vehicle matches the 2019-present model year and Ascent nameplate before purchasing.
When used as a weight-carrying hitch, the 13448 supports 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 750 lbs tongue weight. When used as a weight distribution hitch, it also supports 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 750 lbs tongue weight. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower.
The hitch weight is 120 lbs.
Required tools are: safety glasses, ratchet, 6-inch socket extension, 8 mm socket, 10 mm socket, 17 mm socket, screwdriver, panel removal tool, torque wrench, and hammer. No drilling is required.
The hitch includes: 6 M10×1.25 hex head cap screws (part 10-10271), 6 conical washers 7/16 inch (part 30-00163), and 2 cable ties 3/16 inch × 8 inch 50 lb UV black (part 600043). The factory M10 nuts removed during installation are reused.
Yes, the bumper must be removed. The installation requires removal of the rear fascia, splash guards, and wire harnesses from the bumper beam. The bumper beam is then removed by unbolting it from the vehicle frame. After the hitch is installed, the bumper beam is returned to the vehicle owner.
Two people may be required to ease installation. The manual lists this as an installation tip to improve the quality of the install and reduce the time required.
The installation is rated as challenging. The manual recommends reading all instructions thoroughly before beginning, using proper tools, and contacting an authorized CURT installer if you are hesitant to undertake the task on your own. Technical support is available at 877-287-8634.
No, drilling is not required. The hitch uses existing vehicle holes and studs on the frame rails.
Yes, in Step 9 you must use a hammer to bend the bumper mounting flange inward toward the front of the vehicle to allow the hitch to mount flush. This is a permanent modification to the bumper beam.
All M10 hardware (the supplied M10 bolts and factory M10 nuts) must be torqued to 48 lb-ft.
Installation follows 11 steps: (1) remove 6 plastic expanding fasteners from fascia bottom, (2) remove splash guards with 8 mm bolts, (3) remove expanding fasteners under splash guards, (4) remove push rivets from wheel wells, (5) remove taillight panel bolts with 10 mm socket, (6) remove fascia by pulling gently and unplugging wires, (7) remove 2 wire harnesses from bumper top, (8) remove 3 M10 bolts and 1 M10 nut from each side with 17 mm socket, (9) bend bumper mounting flange inward with hammer, (10) raise hitch over bumper studs, install supplied bolts and washers, attach wire harnesses and zip tie, torque all M10 hardware to 48 lb-ft, (11) reinstall fascia in reverse order and reconnect plugs.
Remove fascia in this order: (1) remove 6 plastic expanding fasteners from the bottom, (2) remove 2 bolts from each splash guard using 8 mm socket, (3) remove 1 expanding fastener under each splash guard, (4) remove 1 push rivet from each wheel well by depressing the center with a screwdriver (use panel removal tool to pry out), (5) open liftgate and remove panel near taillight on both sides by pulling straight back from the top, remove the 1 bolt connecting fascia to vehicle body on each side using 10 mm socket, (6) starting from wheel well and working toward center, pull fascia gently and unplug any attached wires. Set all removed parts aside for reinstallation.
After removing the fascia and wire harnesses, remove the bumper beam by unbolting it from the frame. Using a 17 mm socket, remove 3 M10 bolts and 1 M10 nut from each side (6 bolts and 2 nuts total). Set the nuts aside for reattachment in Step 10. Return the bumper beam and bolts to the vehicle owner.
Raise the hitch into position by placing it over the bumper studs on both sides of the frame. Secure the factory M10 nuts that were removed in Step 8. Install the supplied M10 bolts and conical washers. Attach the 2 wire harnesses to the top of the hitch and secure them with the 2 supplied cable ties. Torque all M10 hardware to 48 lb-ft.
Reinstall the fascia in reverse order of removal (Steps 1-6). Be sure to reconnect all plugs that were disconnected during fascia removal. Note that the fascia has a removable panel for hitch usage; this panel can be removed when using the hitch and reinstalled when the hitch is not in use.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. Read all instructions thoroughly before beginning. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance. Technical support is available at 877-287-8634.
