Whatever the next checkpoint is on your adventure -- whether it's getting your bike on the trail before sunrise or making it to the campground before dark -- CURT class 2 hitches let you Bring It with confidence. These receiver hitches are made to handle most light-duty towing applications and offer a custom fit for your vehicle. Typically used on full-size cars, crossovers, compact SUVs, minivans or even compact pickup trucks, a CURT class 2 trailer hitch complements the design of smaller vehicles. This particular class 2 hitch is made to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ (to verify vehicle compatibility, see application info). It offers a weight carrying capacity of 3,500 lbs. GTW and 350 lbs. TW. Class 2 trailer hitches can typically be used to tow a variety of lightweight trailers, such as a small utility trailer, small fishing boat trailer or popup camper (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). They are also perfect for adding cargo space to your vehicle with a bike rack or cargo carrier. This class 2 hitch features a 1-1/4" receiver tube to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch-mounted accessory. For safety, it is tested in accordance with SAE J684. A custom trailer hitch design requires extra care, and as such, CURT class 2 hitches are engineered using real vehicles and hands-on research. We use high-strength steel, robotic welding and rigorous testing to produce hitches that are built to fit your lifestyle. To ensure that each hitch will be a reliable extension of your vehicle, we also finish our hitches in a co-curing of liquid A-coat and black powder coat, giving them long-lasting rust and wear resistance.
Trailer hitch weight ratings are limited to vehicle manufacturer's stated capacities
Not compatible for use with vertical hanging bicycles (bike racks that require the bicycles to be hung / mounted vertically)
Includes installation hardware

Yes, CURT part 12091 is designed for 2013-present Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans. Before purchasing, verify your vehicle year and model match this range. If you have a different body style or year, contact CURT technical support at 877-287-8634 to confirm fitment.
The CURT 12091 is rated for a maximum trailer weight of 3500 lbs and a tongue weight of 350 lbs when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower. Check your vehicle's owner manual for the final towing limit.
Non-trailer loads (wheel-less loads) applied to this hitch must be supported by CURT stabilizing straps, part number 18050. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. See the CURT catalog or visit www.curtmfg.com for information on part 18050.
The CURT 12091 is designed for use with CURT euro mount part 45562 (2" ball) or part 45561 (1 7/8" ball), paired with optional ball mount part D-45501 or 45501. Verify compatibility with your specific ball mount before purchase.
You will need: 7mm and 10mm sockets, 3/4" socket, ratchet, torque wrench, and safety glasses. A socket set, ratchet, and torque wrench are essential for proper installation and fastener torquing to specification.
No, drilling is not required. The CURT 12091 uses existing access holes in the vehicle frame rails to route the fasteners through. The installation uses fishwiring to thread the bolts and spacer blocks through these factory access holes.
Two people may be required to ease installation. While one person may be able to complete the installation, having a second person will help, particularly when raising the hitch into position and securing it with fasteners.
You must remove the lower rear air deflector (lower body fascia) from your vehicle. This requires removing 4 pieces of 10mm hardware and 6 pieces of 7mm hardware. The fascia piece and hardware should be returned to the customer after installation.
Fishwiring is a technique used to thread the 1/2" bolts and spacer blocks through the access holes in both sides of the vehicle frame rail. The manual includes 1/2" fishwire (part 1_2 FISHWIRE, qty 4) for this purpose. This allows the bolts to be routed through the frame without drilling new holes.
All 1/2" hardware (bolts and flange nuts) must be torqued to 110 lb-ft. Use a calibrated torque wrench to achieve this specification. This is a critical step for safe hitch operation.
The kit includes: 4 bolts (part 10-10287, 1/2-13 UNC, 1-1/2", grade 8, zinc-plated), 4 serrated flange nuts (part 20-00062, 1/2-13 UNC, grade 8, zinc-plated), 4 spacer blocks (part CM-SP10, 0.250 x 1.00 x 2.50" square hole), and 4 pieces of 1/2" fishwire (part 1_2 FISHWIRE). All fasteners are grade 8 and zinc-plated.
1. Remove 4 pieces of 10mm hardware and 6 pieces of 7mm hardware from the lower body fascia. 2. Remove the lower body fascia and return it and hardware to the customer. 3. Fishwire the 1/2" bolts and spacer blocks through the access holes on both sides of the frame rail. 4. Raise the hitch into position and secure with 1/2" flange nuts. 5. Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 lb-ft.
After installation, verify that all 1/2" fasteners have been torqued to 110 lb-ft. Periodically check the hitch to ensure all fasteners remain tight and all structural components are sound. Perform these checks regularly throughout the life of the hitch.
You should periodically check the hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but regular inspection before towing and after extended use is recommended to maintain safe operation.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. Read all instructions thoroughly before beginning installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance. You can reach CURT technical support at 877-287-8634.
