No. The installation requires no drilling. It uses existing holes in the vehicle frame rails.
You will need: ratchet, rotary cutting tool or reciprocating saw, 10mm socket, 11/16" socket, tape measure, 7/16" fishwire, torque wrench, and tape. A tools reference guide is available at curtmfg.com/trailer-hitch-installation.
The kit includes: 4 carriage bolts (7/16"-14, 1-1/2", grade 8), 4 serrated-flange nuts (7/16"-14, grade 8), and 4 square hole spacers (1/4" x .88" x 2-1/4").
Yes. The bumper fascia must be trimmed. The trim diagram shows approximate dimensions of 5-3/4" and 3-1/2". Use a rotary cutting tool or reciprocating saw.
The fishwire is a tool that guides bolts and spacers through the vehicle frame rails. Insert the coiled end of the fishwire through the hitch mounting hole in the frame rail and out the access hole. Pass the coiled end through the spacer and thread the bolt into the coil. Kink the wire to keep the spacer separate from the bolt. Pull the fishwire, spacer, and bolt through the frame and out the mounting hole. This prevents loss of bolts or spacers inside the frame rail.
Remove 14 screws from the underbody panel using a 10mm socket and set them aside.
Remove 14 screws from the underbody panel using a 10mm socket. Remove the four push fasteners from the underbody panel. Lower the underbody panel and set it aside.
Fishwire two 7/16" carriage bolts (#1) and square hole spacers (#3) into the existing holes in each frame rail using the fishwire technique described in the manual. This guides the hardware through the frame without losing it inside the rail.
The trim diagram shows approximate dimensions of 5-3/4" and 3-1/2". Mark and trim the fascia panel according to these dimensions using a rotary cutting tool or reciprocating saw.
Yes. In Step 6, disconnect the wiring harness and remove the retaining clip from the bracket to allow the hitch to be raised into position. After raising the hitch and securing it, reinstall all electrical components, making sure the electrical is routed below the hitch.
Torque all 7/16" fasteners (carriage bolts and serrated-flange nuts) to 59 ft-lbs.
Raise the trailer hitch into position, taking care not to knock the bolts back into the frame. Secure with 7/16" serrated-flange nuts (#2). Torque all 7/16" fasteners to 59 ft-lbs.
Reinstall all electrical components that were removed in Step 6, making sure the electrical is routed below the hitch. Reinstall the underbody panel and all fasteners (screws and push fasteners) that were removed in Steps 1 through 3.
Safety glasses should be worn at all times while installing this product. Before you begin installation, read all instructions thoroughly. Proper tools will improve the quality of installation and reduce the time required.
Periodic inspection of the trailer hitch should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure. To help prevent damage to the product or vehicle, refer to the specified torque specifications when securing hardware.
The installation difficulty level is rated as Moderate. Installation difficulty levels are based on time and effort involved and may vary depending on the installer's level of expertise, condition of the vehicle, and proper tools and equipment.
