The CURT 13470 has a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 3,500 lbs and a tongue weight (TW) capacity of 350 lbs. If using weight distribution, the weight distribution (WD) capacity is 5,000 lbs with a weight distribution tongue weight (WDTW) capacity of 500 lbs.
No, the CURT 13470 requires no drilling. Installation uses existing weldnuts on the vehicle frame rails. The installation does require trimming of the underbody panel.
Required tools are: ratchet, torque wrench, 19mm socket, 10mm socket, flathead screwdriver, aviation shears, and 6" socket extension. A tools reference guide is available at curtmfg.com/trailer-hitch-installation.
The kit includes 6 hex bolts (M12-1.25 x 40mm, Class 10.9) and 6 conical-toothed washers (1/2"). These fasteners attach the hitch to the existing weldnuts on both frame rails (three bolts and washers per side).
Remove the three hole plugs from the frame rails. To clean debris from the weldnuts, spray lubricant or compressed air into each hole. For heavy debris, use a wire brush, taking care not to damage the threads.
The conical-toothed washers should be oriented with the teeth facing the hitch side plate, as shown in the assembly diagram on page 2. The washer sits between the hex bolt head and the hitch mounting surface.
1. Remove the underbody panel from the passenger side by removing three push fasteners and three screws using a 10mm socket. 2. Remove the three hole plugs and clean the weldnuts in each frame rail. 3. Raise the trailer hitch into position and secure with three M12 hex bolts and conical-toothed washers on each side. 4. Torque all M12 bolts to 86 lb-ft. 5. Trim the underbody panel using the grooves as guides, then reinstall using factory hardware.
The underbody panel must be trimmed using the grooves on the panel as guides. The trim diagram shows cuts of 7-1/4" and 3". The grooves on the panel serve as the primary reference for the trim line. After trimming, the panel is reinstalled using the factory hardware.
All M12-1.25 x 40mm hex bolts must be torqued to 86 lb-ft. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightness and prevent damage to the product or vehicle.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation. Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity when using the hitch. After installation, perform periodic inspection to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure.
