Gross trailer weight (GTW) is 3,500 lbs. Tongue weight (TW) is 350 lbs.
Yes. The installation requires hole enlargement. You will need to enlarge the access hole and use a die grinder or rotary tool to enlarge the mounting holes to accommodate the 1/2" carriage bolts and spacers.
Ratchet, 3" socket extension, torque wrench, T-15 Torx bit, 7mm socket, 3/4" socket, die grinder, and rotary tool. A tools reference guide is available at curtmfg.com/trailer-hitch-installation.
Yes. The installation requires temporary removal of the underbody panel. You will remove 16 screws using a T-15 bit, 4 screws using a 7mm socket, and 2 push pins. The panel is reinstalled after torquing the hitch hardware.
Torque all hardware to 90 ft-lbs.
Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The hitch itself has a gross trailer weight capacity of 3,500 lbs. and tongue weight capacity of 350 lbs., but your vehicle's manufacturer specifications take precedence.
Periodic inspection of the trailer hitch should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure.
The kit includes: 1 trailer hitch, 4 carriage bolts (1/2" - 13 x 1.75"), 4 serrated-flange nuts (1/2"-13), 4 spacers (0.25" x 1.00" x 2.50"), and 4 fishwires (1/2").
The installation difficulty is rated as Moderate. This rating is based on time and effort involved and may vary depending on the installer's level of expertise, condition of the vehicle, and availability of proper tools and equipment.
Safety glasses should be worn at all times while installing this product. Before beginning installation, read all instructions thoroughly. Proper tools will improve the quality of installation and reduce the time required.
The fishwire is a tool that helps guide the hitch during mounting and prevents loss of bolts or spacers inside the frame rail. You insert the coiled end of the fishwire through the hitch mounting hole in the vehicle frame rail and out the access hole, pass it through the spacer, and thread the bolt into the coil. You then kink the wire to keep the spacer separate from the bolt, and pull the fishwire, spacer, and bolt through the frame and out the mounting hole.
1. Remove the underbody panel by removing 16 screws using a T-15 bit, 4 screws using a 7mm socket, and 2 push pins. 2. Enlarge the access hole and insert the 1/2" carriage bolts and spacers into the mounting holes using the fishwire technique. Leave the fishwire attached. 3. Trim the underbody panel using the trim diagrams for reference. 4. Raise the hitch into position and carefully remove the fishwires. Loosely secure using the 1/2" serrated flange nuts. 5. Torque the hardware to 90 ft-lbs. and reinstall the underbody panel.
You must trim the underbody panel. The trim diagram shows cuts of 5" on the front and rear, 34.75" in length, and 0.5" on each side. Use the trim diagrams provided in the manual for reference when making these cuts.
A die grinder or rotary tool is required to enlarge the access hole and the mounting holes to accommodate the 1/2" carriage bolts and spacers.
The carriage bolts are 1/2" - 13 x 1.75". Four bolts are included in the kit.
The spacers are 0.25" x 1.00" x 2.50". Four spacers are included in the kit.
The serrated-flange nuts are 1/2"-13. Four nuts are included in the kit.
You must remove 16 screws using a T-15 Torx bit, 4 screws using a 7mm socket, and 2 push pins. All of these fasteners are reinstalled after the hitch is mounted and torqued.
Periodic inspection of the trailer hitch should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure. The manual does not specify the exact interval, but regular checks are recommended.
