The first step is to disconnect the sway bar links. Then raise the vehicle and disconnect both lower shock mountings. If using an axle contact hoist, place axle stands under the frame and lower the axle. If using a frame contact hoist, place axle stands under the axle and lower the frame. If using a jack on the axle, place axle stands under the frame and lower the axle, but do not proceed without restraining the axle from falling.
Pry or pull the jounce bumper out of the pocket in the lower spring seat. Drop the axle so the coil springs can be removed. Mark the spring and retainer for orientation. Pull the coil spring up out of the lower spring retainer and remove it. Discard the jounce bumper.
Deflate the air cylinder and replace the valve cap to keep it deflated. Insert the air cylinder into the coil spring with the stem towards the bottom of the coil. Then insert the pedestal into the bottom of the coil spring. Reinstall the coil into the vehicle, aligning the marks made during removal.
Slide a hose clip onto the air line. Thread the air line through the window in the protector and attach it to the air cylinder. Use pliers to open the hose clip and slide it over the end of the air line and the air cylinder barbed fitting. Push the cylinder down flat against the protector.
Slide the thermal sleeve onto the air line on the right side, placing it along the air line where it is nearest the exhaust. This protects the air line from heat damage.
Insert the small end of the protector into the lower spring seat pocket. Make sure the side window on the protector faces the rear of the vehicle.
The kit requires installation of an exhaust heat shield attached to the exhaust pipe. The flanges must be bent for component clearance. Bend the tabs to provide 1/2" dead air space between the exhaust pipes and heat shield and maximum clearance with the spring.
Route air lines along the axle, securing them with tie wraps. Find a suitable location for the plastic tee, such as along the back side of the axle near the center. Determine and cut adequate lengths of air line to route to both air springs from the tee. Connect the two air lines from the cylinders to opposite legs of the tee. Attach the remaining length of air line to the last leg of the tee. Leave sufficient air line slack to prevent any strain on fittings during axle movements.

Drill a 5/16" hole at your chosen location (such as under the bumper or on the bumper next to the hitch receiver). Mount the inflation valve as illustrated in Figure 13, with the rubber washer on the outside for weather seal. Slide a hose clip onto the free end of the remaining air line, push the line onto the inflation valve, and secure it with a hose clip.
Route the free end of the remaining air line to the inflation valve location, securing it with tie wraps. Raise the axle back to stock position. Reattach the shocks to the lower shock mountings. Reconnect the sway bar links.
Inflate the air springs to 10 psi. Spray all connections and the inflation valves with a solution of 1/3 dish soap and 2/3 water. Look for bubbles in the soapy water to spot leaks easily. If you find leaks, repair or replace the affected components before adjusting pressure.

No. The vehicle can be lifted on a hoist for short-term service work such as tire rotation or oil changes. However, if the vehicle will be on the hoist for a prolonged period of time, support the axle with jack stands to take the tension off of the air springs.
Tuning comes down to three things: level vehicle, ride comfort, and stability. Start with the vehicle level or slightly above. If headlights are shining into trees or the vehicle is leaning to one side, raise the air pressure to level it. If the ride is rough and harsh, try different pressures to find the best comfort. For stability issues such as roll control, bounce, dive during braking, or sponginess, usually increase pressure. Always add air in small quantities, checking pressure frequently. It may be necessary to maintain different pressures on each side of the vehicle depending on load distribution.
