The manual does not mention battery disconnection. However, you will be working under the vehicle and raising it on a hoist or jack with safety stands, so follow standard vehicle safety practices.
Remove the plastic cap from the barbed stem on the end of the air spring. Exhaust the air from the air spring by rolling it up toward the barbed stem. Replace the cap on the stem to hold its flat shape. Fold the air spring into a "hot dog bun shape" before inserting it into the coil spring opening.
Insert the flattened end of the air spring into the top opening of the coil spring, with the stem at the bottom. Push the spring down into the cylinder by hand or with a blunt instrument such as a spoon-type tire iron. Once completely inserted, remove the cap and allow the air spring to assume its "as molded" shape.
The lower protector is inserted between the lower spring seat and the air spring. After pushing the air spring to the top of the coil spring, insert the protector on the bottom, then push the air spring down so the stem is centered in the protector's hole. This protects the air spring from the lower spring seat.
Install an air line clamp on each end of the air line. Push the air line over the barbed stem, completely covering all the barbs. Install the clamp over the barbed stem using needle nose pliers. Leave a little slack in the air line so it will not pull off the stem when the suspension is in full extension.
Route the air line inboard and attach to the lower control arm using a zip tie on both sides, leaving a little slack so the air line will not pull off the stem when the suspension is in full extension. Then route the air line to the top of the crossmember, avoiding the exhaust on the passenger's (right) side. An example shows routing above the crossmember to the left side, behind the fender well, then back to a valve location using an existing hole in the bottom of the bumper cover.
Single-path installation is recommended for vehicles with even weight distribution. Both air springs connect to a single tee fitting, which then connects to one Schrader valve. Dual-path installation is used when weight varies from side to side and unequal pressures are needed to level the load. For dual-path, eliminate the tee fitting and route separate air lines for each air spring directly to individual Schrader valves.
Make clean, square cuts with a razor blade or hose cutter. Do not use scissors or wire cutters, as these will damage the air line and create poor connections.
1. Slide the air line clamp onto the air line. 2. Push the air line and air line clamp over the barbed stem so that the air line covers all the barbs. 3. Compress the ears on the air line clamp with pliers and slide it forward to fully cover the barbs. This procedure applies to all air line connections: from air springs to tee fitting, from tee to Schrader valve, and for dual-path installations from air springs directly to Schrader valves.
Yes, you must drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole for the Schrader valve. Select a location that will be protected and accessible with an air hose. Recommended locations are inside the fuel tank filler door, inside rear wheel wells, or in the license plate or rear bumper area. The manual states "Drill a 5/16" (8mm) hole, if necessary," indicating drilling is required unless a suitable existing hole is available.
Drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole in the vehicle body or bumper. Install the air line on the Schrader valve first. Mount the valve with the rubber washer (which serves as an outside weather seal) on the outside, followed by a flat washer, star washer, and hex nut on the inside. The valve cap should be installed on the valve stem.

(4) Fastener test—after 500 miles (800 km), recheck all bolts for proper torque. (5) Road test—drive 10 miles (16 km) and recheck for clearance, loose fasteners and air leaks.
