The Air Lift 1000 is a cylinder-style air bag that installs into the vehicle's coil springs. Each air spring provides up to 1,000 pounds (454 kg) of load-leveling support when inflated. Each cylinder is rated at a maximum of 35 PSI (2.4 BAR).
The kit includes: 2 air springs (46137), 2 protectors (09112), 15 feet of air line (20937), 6 zip ties (10466), 2 valve caps (21230), 4 5/16" hex nuts (21233), 2 rubber washers (21234), 2 star washers (18411), 2 M8 flat washers (18501), 1 tee fitting (21236), 2 Schrader valves (21455), and 6 air line clamps (10638).
Remove the black plastic cap from the barbed stem on the end of the air spring. Exhaust the air from the air spring by rolling it up toward the barbed stem. Replace the cap to hold its flat shape. Fold the air spring into a "hot dog bun shape" before inserting it into the coil spring.
The valve stem on the cylinder must point down. Insert the flattened end of the air spring into the top opening of the coil spring with the stem at the bottom.
From the bottom up, insert the air line through the outside hole in the lower spring seat, then up through the center spring seat hole. This routing protects the air line and keeps it properly positioned.
Insert the air line through the center of a protector. Install an air line clamp onto the end of the air line. Push the air line onto the barbed stem of the cylinder until the air line completely covers the barbs. Using pliers, slide the air line clamp completely over the barbs to secure it.
Route the air line up and back, attaching it to the brake line bracket on the upper control arm using a zip tie. Continue routing the air line up and back, tying it off to the wiring harness on the passenger's (right) side and the wiring harness behind the rear wheel well on the driver's (left) side. Then route both air lines back to the rear bumper area where the Schrader valve is mounted.
Single-path installation is recommended for vehicles with even weight distribution. Both air springs connect to a single tee fitting, which then connects to one Schrader valve. Dual-path installation is used when weight varies from side to side and unequal pressures are needed to level the load. In dual-path, the tee fitting is eliminated and separate air lines route from each air spring directly to the Schrader valve.
The manual recommends using the push pin hole under the passenger's (right) side bumper to mount the Schrader valve. Alternative locations include inside the fuel tank filler door, inside rear wheel wells, or rear bumper area. The valve must be protected and accessible with an air line.
Drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole for the Schrader valve mounting location. Make sure the location is protected and accessible.
Make clean, square cuts with a razor blade or hose cutter. Do not use scissors or wire cutters, as these will not produce a clean cut and may damage the air line.
Use this procedure for all air line connections: (1) Slide the air line clamp onto the air line. (2) Push the air line and air line clamp over the barbed stem so that the air line covers all the barbs. (3) Compress the ears on the air line clamp with pliers and slide it forward to fully cover the barbs.
Drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole in the vehicle body or bumper. Install the air line on the Schrader valve first. From inside the vehicle, insert the Schrader valve through the hole. On the outside, stack components in this order: flat washer, star washer, rubber washer (which serves as an outside weather seal), then secure with a hex nut.
Raise the suspension or lower the body completely and remove the safety stands. Install the rear wheels and torque them to the recommended factory specifications. Do not inflate the air springs before reading the Maintenance and Use Guidelines in the installation guide and the user guide included with the kit.
Inflate the air springs to 30 PSI (2 BAR) and ensure there is at least 1/2" (13 mm) clearance from anything that might rub against each air spring. Check clearance from the tire, brakes, frame, shock absorbers and brake cables. This test must be completed before road testing.
Inflate the air springs to 30 PSI (2 BAR) and check all connections for leaks using a spray bottle with a dish soap and water solution. All leaks must be eliminated before the vehicle is road tested. If the system develops an air leak during use, check all air line connections and the inflation valve core with soapy water before deflating and removing the air spring.

After 500 miles (800 km), recheck all bolts for proper torque. This is critical to ensure the system remains secure during initial use.
After completing the clearance, leak, heat and fastener tests, inflate the air springs to recommended driving pressures. Drive the vehicle 10 miles (16 km) and recheck for clearance, loose fasteners and air leaks.

Jack up the rear of the vehicle or raise it on a hoist. Support the frame with two safety stands. Lower the axle or raise the body until the coil springs are completely extended with the wheels hanging. Remove both wheels before beginning air spring installation.
When the air spring is completely in the coil, remove the black plastic cap and allow the air spring to assume its "as-molded" shape. Push the cylinder to the top of the coil spring.
Leave sufficient air line slack to prevent any strain on the fitting during axle motions. This prevents damage to the air line and fittings when the suspension moves.
Use a spray bottle with a dish soap and water solution to check all air line connections and the inflation valve core. Spray the solution on all connections while the system is pressurized at 30 PSI (2 BAR). Bubbles will form at the location of any leak. All leaks must be eliminated before road testing. If a leak persists, the air line clamp may need to be repositioned to fully cover the barbs, or the connection may need to be remade.
If the clearance test at 30 PSI (2 BAR) shows less than 1/2" (13 mm) clearance from the tire, brakes, frame, shock absorbers or brake cables, the air spring position or pressure may need adjustment. Do not proceed with road testing until adequate clearance is confirmed. Verify the air spring is fully seated in the coil spring and positioned correctly at the top.
The air line must maintain at least 6" (152 mm) clearance from the exhaust system to prevent melting. If the clearance is insufficient, reroute the air line to maintain the required distance. Use zip ties to secure the air line away from heat sources.
