No. Installing air springs will not change the weight ratings (GAWR, GCWR, and/or GVWR) of your vehicle. The installation of this kit does not alter the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating or payload. You must continue to check your vehicle's owner's manual and not exceed the maximum load listed for your vehicle. Exceeding the GVWR is dangerous and voids the Air Lift warranty.
The manual does not provide a complete tool list. However, based on the installation steps, you will need: a jack and safety stands, a drill with a 9/16" bit (for the lower spring seat hole) and a 5/16" bit (for the inflation valve hole), pliers (for tightening air line clamps), a wrench (for tightening swivel fittings), a valve core tool (for checking the inflation valve), and an air compressor to inflate and adjust the air springs. Yes. The coil springs must be removed for installation. You will need to jack up the rear of the vehicle and support the frame with safety stands, then detach the shock absorbers at the lower shock mount, detach the panhard rod at the lower axle mount, disconnect any rear anti-sway bar links if present, and carefully lower the axle until the coil springs are free. Be careful not to strain the brake lines; disconnect brake line brackets if necessary before removing the coil springs.
There are three types: Type 1 has no jounce bumper at the top spring seat with a large hole—insert the protector and cylinder with the stem up. Type 2 has a small jounce bumper (approximately 3" long) at the top of the coil spring—unbolt and discard it, then drill a 9/16" hole in the lower spring seat and insert the cylinder and protector with the stem down. Type 3 has a large jounce bumper at the top of the coil spring—trim the jounce bumper as specified in the manual's figure 4, then drill a 9/16" hole in the lower spring seat and insert the cylinder with the stem down.
Tee Air Line routing uses a single tee fitting with one inflation valve and is best for vehicles loaded evenly from side to side. Dual Air Line routing uses two separate inflation valves (one for each side) and should only be used if the vehicle will have unbalanced side-to-side loading—for example, considerably more load on the left side than the right, or vice versa. Choose the option that matches your intended use.
You need to drill two types of holes: a 9/16" hole in the lower spring seat for the air cylinder (required for Type 2 and Type 3 jounce bumper configurations), and a 5/16" hole for the inflation valve. The location of the 9/16" hole should be marked using the center template circles provided in the manual. The 5/16" hole for the inflation valve can be drilled in the gas cap well, trunk, rear bumper, fender flange, or behind the license plate, depending on where you choose to mount the valve.
Yes. If your vehicle has a large jounce bumper at the top of the coil spring (Type 3), it will be necessary to trim the jounce bumper as specified in figure 4 of the manual. After trimming, center the template, mark, and drill a 9/16" hole in the lower spring seat for hose access to the cylinder, then insert the cylinder with the stem down.
Use this procedure for all air line connections: (1) Slide the air line clamp onto the air line. (2) Push the air line over the barbed stem, covering all the barbs. (3) Compress the ears on the air line clamp with pliers and slide it forward to fully cover the barbed section. Repeat this procedure for each connection point. Leave sufficient air line slack to prevent any strain on fittings during axle motions.
Keep the air line at least 8 inches from the exhaust system to prevent it from melting. Route the air line along the cross member and upper spring seat to the air cylinder, then through the spring seat and protector. For the main line from the tee to the inflation valve, route it along the frame and attach it with plastic straps. Leave sufficient slack to prevent any strain on fittings during axle motions. If a heat shield is included in the kit, install it. If there is no heat shield but one is required, call (800) 248-0892.
Select a location for the inflation valve that is protected and accessible with an air hose. Options include the gas cap well, the trunk, the rear bumper, the fender flange, or behind the license plate. Drill a 5/16" hole at your chosen location. The rubber washer included with the valve is for outside weather seal. For Dual Air Line routing, select locations for both valves in the rocker panel flange or rear bumper.
After installation, reattach all components that were disconnected during preparation: (1) Reconnect brake lines to mounting brackets on the rear axle. (2) Reconnect the swaybar link if it was removed. (3) Reconnect the panhard rod. (4) Reconnect the shock absorbers. Ensure all fasteners are properly tightened.

Yes, the vehicle can be lifted on a hoist for short-term service work such as tire rotation or oil changes. Stability issues such as roll control, bounce, dive during braking, and sponginess usually require an increase in pressure.
