The LoadLifter 5000 is an air spring suspension support system that uses reinforced, commercial-grade convolute bellows to provide load assistance. 1. Set a roll plate on both ends of the air spring with the radiused (rounded) edge facing the air spring. 2. Install the 90-degree elbow fitting to the top of the air spring and tighten finger-tight plus 1.5 turns, tightening only on the metal hex nut—do not over-tighten. 3. Set the upper bracket over the top of the air spring and attach using two 3/8" bolts, two lock washers, and two flat washers, tightened securely. 4. Set the lower bracket on the bottom of the air spring, offset to the outside of the vehicle. 5. Attach using two 3/8" bolts, two lock washers, and two flat washers, but leave loose for later adjustment.
1. Remove the bolts holding the jounce bumper bracket. 2. Remove the jounce bumper bracket from the side of the frame. Use extreme caution to avoid damaging the lines on the inside of the frame on the passenger's (right) side. 3. Drill the two bottom holes with a 1/2" drill bit. If unable to drill from the outside in, drill from the inside of the frame out.
Two 1/2" holes must be drilled in the jounce bumper bracket area. Additionally, a 5/16" hole must be drilled to install each inflation valve. A 3/8" hole must be drilled above the axle in the bottom of the frame flange to relocate the jounce bumper.
1. Set the assembly on the leaf spring and insert two 1/2" carriage bolts through the bottom holes in the upper bracket and frame. Install a flat washer and nylon lock nut to each bolt, leaving loose for adjustment. 2. Insert two 3/8" frame bolts through the top holes in the upper bracket and frame. Secure using flat washers and nylon lock nuts on the inside of the frame. 3. Align the air spring so it is parallel and perpendicular to the top and bottom using the slotted lower bracket. 4. Tighten the lower air spring/bracket mounting hardware to 10 lb.-ft. (13.6 Nm). 5. Tighten all upper bracket mounting hardware. 6. Attach the lower bracket to the leaf spring with the long U-bolts, capping with flat washer and nylon lock nut. Trim U-bolts above the nylon lock nut if necessary. 7. Tighten all mounting hardware to the specified torque values.
The lower air spring/bracket mounting hardware must be tightened to 10 lb.-ft. (13.6 Nm). The manual does not specify torque values for other fasteners; contact Air Lift Company at (800) 248-0892 for complete torque specifications.
Popular locations for the inflation valves include: the wheel well flanges, license plate recess in bumper, under the gas cap access door, or through the license plate itself. Choose a location with enough clearance around the inflation valves for an air chuck to be applied.
Cut the air line assembly into two equal lengths using a hose cutter, razor blade, or sharp knife. Make a clean, square cut to prevent leaks. Do not use wire cutters or scissors, as these tools may flatten or crimp the air line, causing it to leak around the O-ring seal inside the elbow fitting.
1. Drill a 5/16" hole at your chosen location. 2. Place a 5/16" nut and star washer on the air valve, leaving approximately 1/2" of valve exposed after installation to easily apply a pressure gauge or air chuck. 3. Push the inflation valve through the hole. 4. Install the rubber washer, flat washer, and another 5/16" nut on the back side. 5. Tighten the nuts to secure the assembly in place. 6. Install the valve cap.
Route the air line along the frame to the air fitting on the air spring. Maintain at least 6" (150 mm) of clearance between the air line and heat sources such as exhaust pipes, muffler, or catalytic converter. Avoid sharp bends and edges. Use plastic zip ties to secure the air line to fixed, non-moving points along the chassis. Ensure zip ties are tight but do not pinch the air line. Leave at least 2" (50 mm) of slack to allow for movement that might pull on the air line.
Cut the air line leaving approximately 12" (300 mm) of extra air line, making a clean square cut to prevent leaks. The 90-degree swivel fitting on the air spring is a push-to-connect fitting. Simply push the air line into the fitting until it bottoms out; approximately 9/16" of air line should be inserted into the fitting.
1. Remove the jounce bumper from the stock bracket. 2. Drill a 3/8" hole above the axle in the bottom of the frame flange. 3. Mount the jounce bumper under the frame using O.E.M. hardware and tighten securely. The jounce bumper must be positioned between the frame and axle.
