Yes, the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 for Half-Ton Vehicles. 57272 (Part #BBCG57272) is designed to fit the 1999-2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
The Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 for Half-Ton Vehicles. 57272 (Part #BBCG57272) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, Kit 57272 is designed for Chevrolet 1500 Silverado and GMC 1500 Sierra 4-Wheel Drive models with leaf springs. The kit provides up to 5,000 lbs. of load leveling support with air adjustability from 5-100 PSI. However, the manual does not specify which model years are compatible, so contact Air Lift at (800) 248-0892 to confirm fitment for your specific vehicle year and configuration.
No. The installation of the LoadLifter 5000 kit does not alter the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or payload of your vehicle. You must check your vehicle's owner's manual and never exceed the maximum load listed for your vehicle. GVWR is the maximum allowable weight of the fully loaded vehicle including passengers and cargo, shown on the vehicle's Safety Compliance Certification Label.
Required tools include: hoist or floor jacks, 2 safety stands, safety glasses, torque wrench, standard open-end combo wrenches, ratchet, metric and standard sockets, 7/32" Allen wrench (socket if available), 5/16" drill bit (very sharp), heavy-duty drill, hose cutter/razor blade/sharp knife, air compressor or compressed air source, and spray bottle with dish soap/water solution. Do not use wire cutters or scissors to cut the air line, as these tools may flatten or crimp it and cause leaks.
The manual does not mention battery disconnection as a requirement for LoadLifter 5000 installation.
The upper bracket stud and bolt should be torqued to 25 lb.-ft. Cap the upper bracket stud and bolt with two 3/8" flat washers and two nylon lock nuts, then torque both sides evenly to this specification.
The 3/8" flat head screws (F) that attach the upper brackets to the air springs should be torqued to no more than 20 lb.-ft.
The lower bracket is attached using two hex head bolts (N) with J-clamps (J), one at the front and one at the rear. Both sides should be evenly torqued to 10 lb.-ft. The 5/8" diameter clip (K) that secures the emergency brake line should be torqued to 15 lb.-ft.
The 90° swivel fitting (E) should be installed into the top of the air spring finger tight plus one and a half turns. Do not over-tighten.
Yes. You must drill two 5/16" holes to install the inflation valves. The manual specifies using a very sharp 5/16" drill bit and a heavy-duty drill. Choose a convenient location such as the wheel well flanges, license plate recess in bumper, under the gas cap access door, or through the license plate, ensuring there is enough clearance around the inflation valves for an air chuck.
Yes. Step 2 of Getting Started requires you to unbolt the left and right side jounce bumpers. The lower brackets are then attached to the jounce bumper strike plates using J-clamps and hex head bolts.
Route the air line along the frame to the air fitting on the air spring. Maintain at least 6 inches of clearance between the air line and heat sources such as exhaust pipes, muffler, or catalytic converter. Avoid sharp bends and edges. Use plastic tie straps to secure the air line to fixed, non-moving points along the chassis. Ensure tie straps are tight but do not pinch the air line. Leave at least 2 inches of slack to allow for movement that might pull on the air line.
Use a hose cutter, razor blade, or sharp knife to cut the air line. Make a clean, square cut to prevent leaks. Do not use wire cutters or scissors, as these tools may flatten or crimp the air line, causing it to leak around the O-ring seal inside the elbow fitting. Leave approximately 12 inches of extra air line when cutting, and insert the air line into the 90° swivel fitting until it bottoms out (9/16" of air line should be in the fitting).
Bend the heat shield tabs to provide a 1/2" dead air space between the exhaust pipe and heat shield. Attach the heat shield to the exhaust pipe using the supplied clamps. Bend the heat shield for maximum clearance to the air spring. On some vehicles with large resonators, it may be necessary to double up on the clamps to fit these models.
Inflate the air springs to 30 PSI. Spray all connections and inflation valves with a solution of 1/5 liquid dish soap and 4/5 water. Spot leaks by looking for bubbles in the soapy water. After the test, deflate the springs to the minimum pressure required to restore the system to normal ride height (no lower than 5 PSI). Check air pressure again after 24 hours; a 2-4 PSI loss after initial installation is normal. If the loss is more than 5 lbs., retest for leaks.
First, check the air line connection by deflating the spring and removing the line by pulling the collar against the fitting and pulling firmly on the air line. Trim 1 inch off the end of the air line, ensuring the cut is clean and square. Reinsert the air line into the push-to-connect fitting. If it still leaks, check the threaded connection by tightening the swivel fitting another 1/2 turn. If it still leaks, deflate the air spring, remove the fitting, re-coat the threads with thread sealant, and reinstall by hand tightening as much as possible, then use a wrench for an additional two turns.
First, check the valve core by tightening it with a valve core tool. If that does not work, check the air line by removing it from the barbed fitting. Cut the air line off a few inches in front of the fitting and use pliers or vice grips to pull or twist the air line off the fitting. Do not cut off the air line completely, as this will usually nick the barb and render the fitting useless. If these steps do not resolve the problem, call Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892.
The minimum recommended air pressure is 5 PSI. The maximum air pressure is 100 PSI. Never inflate beyond 100 PSI. The air pressure actually needed depends on your load and GVWR. Loaded vehicles (with heavy bed load, trailer, or both) require at least 25 PSI or more. The springs support approximately 40 lbs. of load (combined on both springs) for each 1 PSI of pressure.
Check the air pressure weekly. Always maintain normal ride height. When increasing load, always adjust the air pressure to maintain normal ride height. Add air to springs in small quantities, checking the pressure frequently.
Check air pressure weekly and maintain normal ride height. Periodically check all fasteners for tightness and inspect air springs for signs of rubbing; realign if necessary. After 30 days or 500 miles (whichever comes first), recheck the system for rubbing or abrasion and verify all fasteners are tight. Re-torque all bolts after 100 miles. Periodically spray the air springs with a garden hose to remove mud, sand, gravel, or other abrasive debris. If you develop an air leak, use a soapy water solution to check all connections and the inflation valve core before deflating.
Yes, the vehicle can be lifted on a hoist for short-term service work such as tire rotation or oil changes. However, if the vehicle will be on the hoist for a prolonged period, support the axle with jack stands to take the tension off the air springs. When raising the vehicle by the frame for service, make sure the system is at minimum pressure (5 PSI) to reduce tension on the suspension and brake components.
If the air springs are properly installed and maintained, they can last indefinitely. Proper maintenance includes checking air pressure weekly, maintaining normal ride height, periodically checking fasteners for tightness, inspecting for rubbing, and cleaning the springs with a garden hose to remove abrasive debris.
No. Air pressure can be adjusted with any type of compressor as long as it can produce sufficient pressure to service the springs. Even a bicycle tire pump can be used, although it requires more effort. The kit does not require an on-board compressor system.
If you suspect the air springs have bottomed out, increase the air pressure. Bottoming out occurs when the springs compress fully and lose their support. Increasing pressure will prevent this condition and maintain proper ride height and stability.
Yes. It may be necessary to maintain different pressures on each side of the vehicle. Loads such as water, fuel, and appliances will cause the vehicle to be heavier on one side. As much as a 50 PSI difference is not uncommon when balancing uneven loads.
Complete the following checks before road testing: (1) Clearance test—inflate to 60 PSI and ensure at least 1/2" clearance around each bellows away from tires, brake drums, frame, shock absorbers, and brake cables. (2) Leak test—inflate to 60 PSI and check all connections with soapy water solution; all leaks must be eliminated before road testing. (3) Heat test—ensure at least 6" clearance from heat sources; install heat shield if included. (4) Fastener test—recheck all bolts for proper torque and re-torque after 100 miles. (5) Road test—inflate to 25 PSI (50 PSI if loaded), drive 10 miles, and recheck for clearance, loose fasteners, and air leaks.
A 2-4 PSI loss after initial installation is normal. If the loss is more than 5 PSI after 24 hours, there is a leak that must be fixed. Use a soapy water solution (1/5 liquid dish soap and 4/5 water) to check all air line connections, the threaded connection into the air spring, and all fittings. Inspect air lines for pinching (tie straps may be too tight), holes, cracks, kinks, or folds. If these steps do not resolve the problem, call Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892.

Kit 57272 fits Chevrolet 1500 Silverado and GMC 1500 Sierra 4-Wheel Drive models with leaf springs. Confirm your specific model year with Air Lift at (800) 248-0892.
You need a hoist or floor jacks, 2 safety stands, torque wrench, wrenches and sockets, 7/32" Allen wrench, 5/16" drill bit, heavy-duty drill, hose cutter or sharp knife, air compressor, and spray bottle with dish soap/water solution. Do not use wire cutters or scissors to cut the air line.
Yes. You must drill two 5/16" holes for the inflation valves. Choose a location such as wheel well flanges, license plate recess, under gas cap, or through the license plate with clearance for an air chuck.
Upper bracket: 25 lb.-ft. Upper bracket attachment screws: 20 lb.-ft. Lower bracket bolts: 10 lb.-ft. Emergency brake line clip: 15 lb.-ft. Re-torque all fasteners after 100 miles.
Minimum: 5 PSI. Maximum: 100 PSI. Never exceed 100 PSI. Loaded vehicles require at least 25 PSI. Do not exceed your vehicle's GVWR regardless of air pressure.
Route along the frame to the air fitting. Maintain at least 6" clearance from heat sources (exhaust, muffler, catalytic converter). Avoid sharp bends. Secure with tie straps to fixed points, leaving 2" slack for movement. Do not pinch the line.
Inflate to 60 PSI and check: (1) at least 1/2" clearance around bellows from tires, brakes, frame, shocks; (2) no leaks using soapy water; (3) at least 6" clearance from heat sources; (4) all fasteners tight. Then inflate to 25 PSI (50 PSI if loaded), drive 10 miles, and recheck.
Check air pressure weekly. Maintain normal ride height. Recheck fasteners after 30 days or 500 miles and re-torque after 100 miles. Periodically inspect for rubbing and clean springs with a garden hose. If a leak develops, use soapy water to locate it before deflating.
A 2-4 PSI loss after initial installation is normal. If loss exceeds 5 PSI in 24 hours, there is a leak. Use a soapy water solution (1/5 dish soap, 4/5 water) to check all connections, the swivel fitting, and inflation valve. Inspect air lines for pinching (loosen tie straps), holes, cracks, kinks, or folds. If the swivel fitting leaks, tighten it another 1/2 turn or re-coat threads with thread sealant. If the inflation valve leaks, tighten the valve core with a valve core tool. If these steps do not resolve the problem, call Air Lift at (800) 248-0892.
Deflate the spring and remove the air line by pulling the collar against the fitting and pulling firmly. Trim 1 inch off the end of the line with a hose cutter, razor blade, or sharp knife, making a clean square cut. Reinsert the line into the 90° swivel fitting until it bottoms out (9/16" should be in the fitting). If it still leaks, tighten the swivel fitting another 1/2 turn. If it still leaks, remove the fitting, re-coat the threads with thread sealant, and reinstall by hand tightening as much as possible, then use a wrench for an additional two turns.
First, tighten the valve core using a valve core tool. If it still leaks, the problem is in the air line connection. Remove the air line from the barbed fitting by cutting it a few inches in front of the fitting and using pliers or vice grips to pull or twist it off. Do not cut the line completely, as this will nick the barb and render the fitting useless. Trim the line and reconnect it. If the problem persists, call Air Lift at (800) 248-0892.
Check the air pressure. If the vehicle's headlights are shining into the trees or the vehicle is leaning to one side, raise the air pressure to level the vehicle. If the vehicle rocks and rolls, increase air pressure to reduce movement. If the front dives while braking, increase pressure in the front air bags. If you suspect the air springs have bottomed out, increase the pressure. Always maintain normal ride height by adjusting pressure as needed. If the vehicle still does not level after pressure adjustment, check for leaks using a soapy water solution.
A rough or harsh ride may be due to either too much or too little air pressure. Try different pressures to determine the best ride comfort. If the vehicle has stability issues such as roll control, bounce, dive during braking, or sponginess, increase the air pressure. Stability should be the priority, and you may need to sacrifice a perfectly level and comfortable ride for safety. Start with the vehicle level or slightly above, and adjust pressure up and down to find the best ride.
