The LoadLifter 5000 Series is an air spring suspension support system for 2004-14 Ford F-150 4WD trucks. It provides up to 5,000 pounds of load-leveling support with air adjustability from 5-100 PSI. The system uses reinforced, commercial-grade air springs with rubber and cord construction similar to tires. It helps level the vehicle when carrying heavy loads and improves ride comfort and stability.
Air Lift offers three versions: (1) Standard LoadLifter 5000 with zinc-plated steel roll plates and black nylon air lines (kit 57200); (2) LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate with black powder-coated roll plates, internal jounce bumper, and black nylon air lines (kit 88200); (3) LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Plus with stainless steel roll plates, stainless steel braided air lines, stainless steel air spring mounting hardware, and internal jounce bumper (kit 89200). Yes, the LoadLifter 5000 Series is designed for 2004-14 Ford F-150 4WD models. The installation process differs slightly between 2004-08 models and 2009-14 models, with the main difference being that 2004-08 models require a new universal nut installation and 2009-14 models require an adapter bracket for the lower bracket. Consult the manual for your specific model year to ensure proper installation.
Required tools include: standard and metric open-end or box wrenches, adjustable wrench, ratchet with 3/8", 9/16", and 1/2" deep-well sockets, 3/8" and 5/16" drill bits (very sharp), 3/8" nut driver, heavy-duty drill, torque wrench, standard and metric hex-key wrenches, hose cutter or razor blade, hoist or floor jacks, safety stands, safety glasses, air compressor or compressed air source, and spray bottle with dish soap/water solution.
All three kits include: 2 air springs, 4 roll plates, 2 push-to-connect (PTC) fittings, 4 flat-head screws (3/8"-24 x 3/4"), 4 hex-head bolts (3/8"-24 x 7/8"), 4 lock washers (3/8"), 22 flat washers (3/8"), 1 air line, 6 zip ties, 2 valve caps, 2 M8 flat washers, 4 5/16" hex nuts, and 2 star washers. Raise the vehicle and support the axle with jack stands, setting the jack stands as wide as possible on the axle. Then drop the axle or raise the frame to make room for the assemblies to be positioned between the frame and axle.
Yes. Remove both jounce bumpers between the frame and axle. For 2004-08 models, also remove the stock universal nut that held the jounce bumpers in place. For 2009-14 models, no further modification is needed.
No. The emergency brake cable holder modification is only required on the passenger's (right) side. The bolt holding the emergency brake cable holder to the axle bracket must be cut off or ground flush to the bracket to make clearance for the axle strap.
Yes. You must drill a 5/16" hole for the Schrader valve location if one does not already exist. The manual recommends using very sharp 5/16" drill bits and a heavy-duty drill. No other drilling is required for the main suspension components.
For nylon air lines only: cut the air line in half using a razor blade or hose cutter, making clean, square cuts. Do not use scissors or wire cutters. For braided stainless steel air lines: do not trim them; they cannot be cut and must be coiled and secured if excess length exists.
Yes. The emergency brake cable holder bolt on the passenger's (right) side must be cut off or ground flush to the bracket. This is a permanent modification required for clearance of the axle strap.
The upper spring bracket (parts B and D) must be torqued to no more than 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm) using four flat-head screws (part J).
The upper frame bracket (parts A and C) must be torqued to 38 lb.-ft. (52 Nm) using a flat washer (M) and button-head screw (S). The bracket should be mounted on the frame with the flange pointing up and pushed as tight to the frame as possible while tightening.
The air spring assembly must be attached to the frame bracket using carriage bolts (R), flat washers (M), and nylon lock nuts (U), torqued to 31 lb.-ft. (42 Nm).
The lower clamp bar nuts must be torqued evenly to 10 lb.-ft. (14 Nm). This applies to both 2004-08 and 2009-14 models.
The adapter bracket (F) must be torqued to 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm) using flat washers (M) and nylon lock nuts (U).
The roll plate to lower bracket connection using hex-head bolt (K), lock washer (L), and flat washer (M or W) should be tightened securely to no more than 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm). The manual notes this is difficult to torque unless using a crow's foot wrench adapter.
The straight fitting (I) should be installed into the top of the air spring finger tight, then tightened an additional 1½ turns.
Tighten the air line hex nut finger tight, then use 2 wrenches to turn 1 additional flat (1/6 of one full turn). Do not overtighten. The easiest way to tighten the fitting is off the vehicle before installation.
For standard and Ultimate kits, recommended locations are: (A) inside fuel tank filler door, (B) inside rear wheel wells, or (C) license plate or rear bumper area. For LoadLifter Ultimate Plus kits, the recommended location is the rear bumper area or license plate.
Drill a 5/16" hole for the Schrader valve location if necessary.
Keep at least 6 inches of clearance between all air lines and the exhaust system. Avoid sharp bends and edges. Use zip ties to secure the air line to fixed points along the chassis every 6 to 8 inches. Do not pinch or kink the air line. The minimum bend radius for nylon air line is 1 inch. Leave at least 2 inches of slack in the air line to allow for movement. For braided stainless steel air lines, keep them away from fuel lines, brake lines, and electrical wires.
Yes, if included in your kit. Attach the metal heat shield to the exhaust where it is closest to the air spring. Slide the air line thermal sleeve over the air line and place it where the air line is closest to the exhaust, maintaining at least 1/2 inch of dead air space. If a heat shield was not included but is required, call Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892.
The maximum air pressure is 100 PSI. Never inflate beyond 100 PSI. Although the air springs are rated at a maximum inflation pressure of 100 PSI, the actual air pressure needed depends on load and GVWR.
The minimum recommended air pressure is 5 PSI. The air springs can safely be run at zero air pressure when unladen (no load). Operating the vehicle below the minimum air spring pressure of 5 PSI will void the Air Lift warranty.
No. Installing air springs will not change the weight ratings (GAWR, GCWR, and/or GVWR) of your vehicle. The installation does not alter the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) or payload. You must not exceed the maximum load listed in your vehicle's owner's manual or the GVWR shown on the vehicle's Safety Compliance Certification Label. Exceeding the GVWR is dangerous and voids the Air Lift warranty.
Gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is the maximum allowable weight of the fully loaded vehicle, including passengers and cargo. This number is shown on the vehicle's Safety Compliance Certification Label. Payload is the combined, maximum allowable weight of cargo and passengers that the truck is designed to carry. Payload equals GVWR minus the base curb weight.
Loaded vehicles require at least 25 PSI. A "loaded vehicle" refers to a vehicle with a heavy bed load, a trailer, or both. The springs in this kit will support approximately 40 pounds of load (combined on both springs) for each 1 PSI of pressure. Remember that loads carried behind the axle (including tongue loads) require more leveling force (pressure) than those carried directly over the axle.
Yes. Air pressure can be adjusted with any type of compressor as long as it can produce sufficient pressure to service the springs. Even a bicycle tire pump can be used, but it requires a lot of work. An air compressor is recommended for convenience.
Yes, the vehicle can be lifted on a hoist for short-term service work such as tire rotation or oil changes. However, if the vehicle will be on the hoist for a prolonged period of time, support the axle with jack stands to take the tension off the air springs. When raising the vehicle by the frame for service, make sure the system is at minimum pressure (5 PSI) to reduce tension on the suspension and brake components.
Before operating, perform the following checks: (1) Clearance test — inflate to 75-90 PSI and ensure at least 1/2 inch clearance from anything that might rub (tire, brakes, frame, shock absorbers, brake cables); (2) Leak test — inflate to 75-90 PSI and check all connections for leaks; (3) Heat test — ensure at least 6 inches clearance from heat sources and install heat shield if included; (4) Fastener test — recheck all bolts for proper torque; (5) Road test — drive 10 miles and recheck for clearance, loose fasteners, and air leaks.
Inflate the air spring to 30 PSI. Spray all connections and inflation valves with a solution of 1/5 liquid dish soap and 4/5 water. Spot leaks by looking for bubbles in the soapy water. After the test, deflate the springs to the minimum pressure required to restore normal ride height (not lower than 5 PSI). Check air pressure again after 24 hours; a 2-4 PSI loss after initial installation is normal. Retest for leaks if the loss is more than 5 PSI.
Recheck the air spring system after 30 days or 500 miles, whichever comes first. Check for any signs of rubbing or abrasion on the air springs; if found, identify and move the source if possible, or remount the air spring if relocation is not possible. Check all fasteners for tightness.

On occasion, give the air springs a hard spray with a garden hose to remove mud, sand, gravel, or other debris.
When increasing load, always adjust air pressure to maintain normal ride height. Increase or decrease pressure from the system as necessary to attain normal ride height for optimal ride and handling. Always add air to springs in small quantities, checking the pressure frequently. Loaded vehicles require at least 25 PSI. It may be necessary to maintain different pressures on each side of the vehicle; loads such as water, fuel, and appliances will cause the vehicle to be heavier on one side, and as much as a 50 PSI difference is not uncommon.
Pressure determination comes down to three things: level vehicle, ride comfort, and stability. (1) Level vehicle: if headlights are shining into the trees or the vehicle is leaning to one side, raise air pressure to level it. (2) Ride comfort: if the vehicle has a rough or harsh ride, try different pressures to determine the best comfort. (3) Stability: stability translates into safety and should be the priority; the driver may need to sacrifice a perfectly level and comfortable ride. Stability issues include roll control, bounce, dive during braking, and sponginess, which usually require an increase in pressure.
Use a soapy water solution (1/5 liquid dish soap and 4/5 water) to check all air line connections and the inflation valve core before deflating and removing the air spring. If there is a problem with the swivel fitting, check the air line connection by deflating the spring, removing the line, trimming 1 inch off the end with a clean square cut, and reinserting into the push-to-connect fitting. If the threaded connection leaks, tighten the swivel fitting another half turn; if it still leaks, deflate the air spring, remove the fitting, re-coat the threads with thread sealant, and reinstall by hand tightening and then using a wrench for an additional two turns. If there is a problem with the inflation valve, check the valve core by tightening it with a valve core tool, or check the air line by removing it from the barbed fitting and cutting a few inches in front of the fitting. If these steps do not resolve the problem, call Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892.

First, check the air line connection by deflating the spring and removing the line by pulling the collar against the fitting and pulling firmly on the air line. Trim 1 inch off the end of the air line with a clean, square cut (do not use scissors or wire cutters). Reinsert the air line into the push-to-connect fitting. If it still leaks, tighten the swivel fitting another half turn. If it still leaks, deflate the air spring, remove the fitting, re-coat the threads with thread sealant, and reinstall by hand tightening as much as possible and then using a wrench for an additional two turns.
Check the valve core by tightening it with a valve core tool. If that does not fix it, check the air line by removing it from the barbed type fitting. Cut the air line a few inches in front of the fitting and use pliers or vice grips to pull or twist the air line off the fitting. Do not cut off the air line completely as this will usually nick the barb and render the fitting useless. If the problem persists, call Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892.
