The LoadLifter 5000 Series is an air spring kit that provides load-leveling support for Ford F150 trucks. It uses reinforced, commercial-grade convolute bellows manufactured with layers of rubber and cords. The system provides up to 5,000 pounds (2,268 kg) of load-leveling support with air adjustability from 5–100 PSI (0.34–7 BAR).
The manual confirms these kits are designed for Ford F150 but does not specify model years or configurations. Contact Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892 or service@airliftcompany.com to confirm fitment for your specific truck.
The three kits differ in roll plate material and air line type. Standard LoadLifter 5000 (kit 57355) has zinc-plated steel roll plates and black nylon air lines. LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate (kit 88355) has black powder-coated roll plates and black nylon air lines. LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Plus (kit 89355) has stainless steel roll plates, braided stainless steel air lines, and stainless steel air spring mounting hardware. Air Lift also offers upgrade kits 52300 (braided stainless steel air line and fittings) and 52301 (stainless steel roll plates, air spring mounting hardware, braided stainless steel air lines and fittings).
Required tools include: standard and metric open-end or boxed wrenches (set), standard and metric regular and deep-well sockets (set), ratchet, torque wrench, 7/32" hex-key wrench (socket preferable), hose cutter or sharp knife, cutoff wheel or air reciprocating saw or hacksaw, Christmas tree puller, hoist or floor jack, two safety stands, safety glasses, air compressor or compressed air source, and spray bottle with dish soap/water solution.
Yes. The installation diagram states "PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC SKILLS ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE INSTALLATION OF THIS KIT." The manual also recommends that if professionally installed, the installer should review operating instructions with the owner.
Lift the vehicle and support the frame with safety stands. Drop the axle down low enough to later set the air spring assemblies into position between the frame and leaf spring.
Use a 13 mm socket and an extension to remove the factory jounce bumpers. The bolts have blue sealant on them and may require a small impact to loosen.
Leave approximately 1/2" (13 mm) gap between the bolt flange and the chassis when threading the M10 flange head bolt (part Q) into the locations created by the jounce bumpers.
Torque the flanged nut (O) on the upper bracket to 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm). Ensure the vertical portion of the bracket is touching the side of the frame.
Yes. On all trucks, a small portion of the brake line bracket needs to be cut for proper clearance to fit the lower bracket. Measure approximately 1.375" (35 mm) from the edge of the bracket (this may vary depending on the truck) and make the cut using a cutoff wheel, air reciprocating saw, or hacksaw. Use caution to ensure the brake line and wire harness have proper clearance to avoid damage.
Temporarily set the lower bracket (B) into position and lower the body/frame of the truck so it is sitting at ride height. Measure the distance from the lower bracket to the upper bracket, measuring from the bottom mounting surface to the top mounting surface. If the measurement is 6.75"–7.50" (171–191 mm), the included spacer (G) will be required.
Flip the air spring (E) upside down with the air fitting port facing down. Ensure the air fitting port on the air spring is facing inboard of the vehicle and that the air spring is mounted forward on the bracket. When flipped upright, install the air fittings (H) finger-tight plus 1 1/2 turns.
If your truck does not require the spacer, use the included shorter hardware (N) instead of the longer hardware (I). The shorter hardware (N) is a 3/8"-24 x 7/8" hex-head screw for standard and metric kits.
Install the three carriage bolts (M) onto the lower brackets. Insert the clamp bars (A) over the carriage bolts with the serrated flange nuts (O) to attach the lower bracket assembly to the axle. Torque to 16 lb.-ft. (22 Nm).
Torque the serrated flange nuts (O) that attach the clamp bars (A) to the lower bracket assembly to 16 lb.-ft. (22 Nm).
There should be only about 1/8" (3 mm) gap between the top of the air spring assembly and the upper bracket. Raise the axle enough to allow the top of the air spring to move around a little to achieve this clearance.
Place the U-bolt (P) over the top of the frame and pass the ends through the two holes on the front side of the upper bracket. Thread serrated flange nuts on both sides and torque to 10 lb.-ft. (14 Nm).
Torque the mounting hardware on the top and bottom of the air spring to no more than 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm). Align the air spring by sliding the assembly forward or backward to ensure clearance to objects around the air spring.
Insert the left-hand ABS wiring harness bracket (R) into the "cup" of the ABS wiring harness and secure to the lower bracket (B) with a 3/8"-16 X 7/8" hex-cap screw (U), 3/8" flat washer (K), and 3/8" nylon lock nut (Y). Tighten securely. The tab on the bracket should face down.
Install the right-hand wiring harness connector onto the right-hand wiring harness bracket (S), making sure the locking tab locks the connector into position. Secure to the ABS/Brake line axle junction bracket with a 1/4"-20 X 3/4" hex-cap screw (T), 1/4" flat washer (V), and 1/4" nylon lock nut (X). Tighten securely.
Choose one of three locations for the Schrader valves: inside the fuel tank filler door, inside rear wheel wells, or the license plate or rear bumper area. For LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Plus kits, the recommended location is the rear bumper area or license plate. Drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole if necessary.
For nylon air line, it is recommended that the air line be routed along the top of the frame, forward of the axle, then down to the fitting. Cut the air line in half with clean, square cuts using a razor blade or hose cutter—do not use scissors or wire cutters. Use zip ties (BB) to secure the air line to fixed points along the chassis without pinching or kinking it. The minimum bend radius is 1" (25 mm). Leave at least 2" (50 mm) of slack in the air line to allow for movement.
The braided stainless steel air line must be routed to the rear of the vehicle. Install the air line through one of the openings between the upper coil spring mount and the frame and then back to the rear where the Schrader valves will be mounted. Use zip ties to secure the air line to fixed points along the chassis every 6"–8" (150–200 mm). Leave at least 2" (50 mm) of slack to allow for movement. The braided stainless steel air line cannot be trimmed; coil and secure any excess air line in an area where it will not be susceptible to damage.
Tighten the air line hex nut finger-tight, then use two wrenches to turn one additional flat (1/6 of one full turn). Do not overtighten. The easiest way to tighten the fitting is off the vehicle before final installation.
The maximum air pressure is 100 PSI (7 BAR). Never inflate beyond this pressure. Although the air springs are rated at a maximum inflation pressure of 100 PSI (7 BAR), the air pressure actually needed is dependent on load and gross vehicle weight rating.
The minimum recommended pressure is 5 PSI (0.34 BAR).
Check air pressure weekly. Always maintain normal ride height and never inflate beyond 100 PSI (7 BAR).
Inflate the air springs to 40–60 PSI (2.8–4.1 BAR) and make sure there is at least 1/2" (13 mm) clearance from anything that might rub against each sleeve. Be sure to check the tire, brakes, frame, shock absorbers and brake cables.
Inflate the air springs to 40–60 PSI (2.8–4.1 BAR) and check all connections for leaks using a soapy water solution. All leaks must be eliminated before the vehicle is road tested. If the system develops an air leak, use a soapy water solution to check all air line connections and the inflation valve core before deflating and removing the air spring.
Ensure there is sufficient clearance from heat sources of at least 6" (152 mm) for air springs and air lines. If a heat shield was included in the kit, install it. If there is no heat shield but one is required, call Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892.
After 500 miles, recheck all bolts for proper torque. Drive the vehicle 10 miles (16 km) after the initial clearance, leak, and heat tests and recheck for clearance, loose fasteners and air leaks.
For safety and to prevent possible damage to the vehicle, do not exceed the maximum gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) or payload rating as indicated by the vehicle manufacturer. Although the air springs are rated at a maximum inflation pressure of 100 PSI (7 BAR), the air pressure actually needed is dependent on load and gross vehicle weight rating.
Keep at least 6" (150 mm) of clearance between all air lines and the exhaust system. Avoid sharp bends and edges.
Keep the air line away from the fuel line, brake lines and electrical wires. Ensure proper clearance away from sharp edges and components to prevent damage to the wiring harness and ABS line.
The kits (57355, 88355, 89355) are designed for Ford F150. Contact Air Lift at (800) 248-0892 to confirm fitment for your specific model year and configuration.
