Yes. You must trim the stock jounce bumper to gain clearance for the air spring assembly's lower bracket. Measure up 3/4" from the base and mark a line on the jounce bumper. Using a box cutter or equivalent, cut the top of the jounce bumper off. Use extreme caution when cutting with the cutting tool. This is a permanent modification to the vehicle.
Yes. As part of vehicle preparation, you must lift the vehicle, support the frame with safety stands, drop the axle, and remove the rear wheels. The wheels are reinstalled at the end of installation and torqued to factory specifications in a crisscross pattern.
The welded-on spacer on the upper brackets must face up. When assembling the left (driver's) side assembly, flip it upside-down carefully to avoid damaging the fitting. The flat edge of the lower bracket must be on the same side as the carriage bolt on top.
Install the swivel fitting into the air port on the air spring and tighten it one and a half turns past finger-tight. Do not over-tighten.
The 3/8" flat head socket-cap screws (H) attaching the upper and lower brackets to the air springs must be torqued to no more than 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm). Do not exceed this specification.
The 1/2"-13 hex-cap screw (L) on the inner frame brace must be torqued to 35 lb.-ft. (47 Nm).
The three 3/8" upper nylon lock nuts must be torqued to 16 lb.-ft. (22 Nm).
The exposed lower bracket U-bolts must be evenly torqued to 16 lb.-ft. (22 Nm). The rear U-bolt should be tightened using a 9/16" ratchet or open-end wrench.
You must drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole for each Schrader valve if one does not already exist in your chosen location. The manual shows three recommended locations: inside the fuel tank filler door, inside rear wheel wells, or the license plate/rear bumper area. Make clean, square cuts and avoid sharp bends and edges.
Route the nylon air lines from the Schrader valves to the air springs, preferably along the top of the frame and then down to the fitting. Make clean, square cuts with a razor blade or hose cutter—do not use scissors or wire cutters. Use zip ties (BB) to secure the air line to fixed points along the chassis without pinching or kinking it. The minimum bend radius is 1" (25 mm). Leave at least 2" (50 mm) of slack in the air line to allow for suspension movement.
The maximum air pressure is 100 PSI (7 BAR). Never inflate beyond this pressure. The minimum recommended air pressure in an unloaded condition is 5 PSI (0.34 BAR), which was found during development to slightly improve ride quality.
Keep at least 6 inches (150 mm) of clearance between all air lines and the exhaust system. Avoid sharp bends and edges that could damage the air lines.
Ensure sufficient clearance from heat sources—at least 6 inches (152 mm) for air springs and air lines. If a heat shield was included in the kit, install it. If there is no heat shield but one is required, call Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892.
Perform the following checks in order: (1) Clearance test—inflate to 40-60 PSI and verify at least 1/2" clearance from tires, brakes, frame, shock absorbers and brake cables. (2) Leak test—inflate to 40-60 PSI and check all connections for leaks using soapy water; all leaks must be eliminated before road testing. (3) Heat test—ensure 6" clearance from heat sources. (4) Fastener test—after 500 miles, recheck all bolts for proper torque. (5) Road test—drive 10 miles and recheck clearance, fasteners and leaks.
Check air pressure weekly. Always maintain normal ride height and never inflate beyond 100 PSI (7 BAR).
