The MN-320 kit fits multi-steel leaf spring models only. If your vehicle has a different suspension type (such as coil springs or factory air suspension), this kit is not compatible. There must be a minimum of 5.5" of clearance between the tire and the outside of the frame rail to provide space for the air spring when fully inflated. Measure this distance with the vehicle at normal ride height (unloaded condition) before beginning installation.
Normal Ride Height is the distance between the bottom edge of the wheel-well and the center of the hub with the vehicle in the "as delivered" condition. Remove any unusual loads and ensure the vehicle is on a level surface. If leaf springs are sagging badly, use a jack to raise the rear end to the original "as delivered" ride height. Measure and record this distance in inches—you will need it throughout installation and for ongoing maintenance.
Required tools include: a jack or hoist to raise the vehicle, a wrench set (including 7/16" open-end wrench for the air fitting and wrenches for hex nuts and bolts), a drill with bits (3/8", 5/16"), a center punch, a hose cutter (Air Lift P/N 10530) or razor blade for cutting air lines, pliers or locking pliers, and a valve core tool. The kit includes an installation tool (alignment tool, part number 10591) to simplify mounting height and alignment.

Yes, drilling is required. You must drill: 3/8" holes through the upper bracket mounting holes (forward and rear), a 5/16" hole for the brake-line bracket relocation (if necessary), a 5/16" hole for the forward lower mounting hole self-tapping screw, and a 5/16" hole for the inflation valve. All holes must be center-punched before drilling. The manual specifies that mounting holes must be at least 3/4" from the rounded edges of the frame rail.
Possibly. The manual notes that on some conversions, it may be necessary to trim seat bolts that protrude down from the floorboard in the area where the assembly is mounted. On the exhaust side of the vehicle, it may be necessary to move or trim the stock heat shield to gain access to the mounting bolts. If your vehicle is equipped with rear air conditioning, it will be necessary to move the lines up to the top of the frame. Some models have a brake-line bracket that must be relocated forward to mount the upper bracket to the frame.
Torque specifications are: U-bolt lock nuts: 16 lb.-ft.; frame bolts (3/8"-16 x 4" bolts on upper bracket): 20 lb.-ft.; lower mounting bolt on air sleeve: 10 lb.-ft.; upper hex nut (connecting air spring to upper bracket): 4 lb.-ft. (do not over-tighten). The air fitting should be tightened finger-tight plus 1½ turns using a 7/16" open-end wrench on the metal hex nut only—do not over-tighten.
The U-bolt lock nuts (3/8"-16 nylon lock nuts) should be torqued to 16 lb.-ft. These secure the lower bracket to the leaf spring using the clamp bar.
The 3/8"-16 x 4" bolts (part number 17145) that attach the upper bracket to the frame should be torqued to 20 lb.-ft. This applies to both the forward and rear upper mounting holes on both passenger and driver sides.
The upper hex nut (part number 17124, 3/4"-16) should be torqued to 4 lb.-ft. Do not over-tighten. This nut is installed after the air spring is inflated and aligned.
The pre-coated air fitting (part number 18414) should be tightened finger-tight plus 1½ turns. Use a 7/16" open-end wrench, being careful to tighten on the metal hex nut only. Do not over-tighten, as this can damage the fitting.
The manual does not describe any electrical connections or wiring for this manual air spring kit. The system uses mechanical inflation valves and does not appear to include an on-board compressor or electronic leveling system. The air spring may be mounted anywhere within the 5.5" to 7" mounting range. The threaded section of the installation tool (alignment tool, part number 10591) is designed to ensure mounting within this range. The brackets can be adjusted up and down using the hex nuts on the threaded portion of the tool to achieve proper alignment with the frame rail.
There must be at least 1.5" of clearance above the upper bracket for air fitting clearance. This is an important consideration when positioning the bracket using the installation tool.
Cut the air line assembly (part number 20086SUB) in two equal lengths using a hose cutter (Air Lift P/N 10530), a razor blade, or a sharp knife. A clean, square cut is essential to prevent leaks. Do not use wire cutters or scissors, as these tools may flatten or crimp the air line, causing it to leak around the O-ring seal inside the elbow fitting. When installing the air line into the fitting, measure 9/16" from the cut end, mark with tape, lubricate the end, and insert it into the fitting until you hear/feel a click and the tape is flush with the fitting.
Popular locations for the inflation valves include: the wheel well flanges, the license plate recess in the bumper, under the gas cap access door, or through the license plate itself. Whatever location you choose, ensure there is enough clearance around the inflation valves for an air chuck to be easily applied. Drill a 5/16" hole for each valve.
Route the air line along the frame to the air fitting on the air spring. Keep at least 6" of clearance between the air line and heat sources such as exhaust pipes, muffler, or catalytic converter. Avoid sharp bends and edges. Use plastic zip ties (part number 10466) to secure the air line to fixed, non-moving points along the chassis. Zip ties should be tight but must not pinch the air line. Leave at least 2" of slack to allow for any movement that might pull on the air line.
With the bottom still loose, inflate the air spring to approximately 10 PSI. Using the slotted adjustment in the lower bracket, align the air spring so that there is a symmetrical cushion of air around the lower base. This is accomplished by pressing all around the air spring and tapping it inboard and outboard for proper alignment. Once aligned, tighten the lower end by holding the bolt with a wrench and turning the air spring by hand—use no tools; hand-tight is sufficient. Some air may need to be let out of the air spring during this process.
The main difference is the order of drilling and bolt installation. On the passenger side, the forward upper mounting hole is drilled first and bolted with a shim, then the rear upper mounting holes are drilled. On the driver side, the forward lower mounting hole is drilled first and bolted, then the rear lower mounting hole is drilled. Both sides use self-tapping screws in specific locations (forward lower on passenger side, forward upper on driver side) and require a 5/16" hole for these screws. The installation tool is removed after drilling the first two holes on each side.
The minimum air pressure is 5 PSI (used when raising the vehicle by the frame to reduce tension on suspension/brake components). The maximum air pressure is 100 PSI. However, the actual air pressure needed depends on your load and vehicle GVWR, which may be less than 100 PSI. Always maintain Normal Ride Height and do not exceed your vehicle's maximum Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. Check your vehicle owner's manual for the maximum load limit.
The air spring compresses to 3" and extends to 8.1". The maximum inflated diameter is 4.5". You must check that nothing is rubbing against the air spring within this diameter. Failure to maintain correct minimum pressure, bottoming out, overextension, or rubbing against another component will void the warranty. The air spring should not be the suspension limiter in either compression or extension; the shock absorber is usually the limiter on extension.
At maximum inflation (60 PSI during testing), there must be at least 1/2" clearance around each air spring sleeve from anything that might rub against it. Be sure to check the tire, brake drum, frame, shock absorbers, and brake cables. Additionally, keep at least 6" of clearance between the air spring and heat sources such as exhaust pipes, muffler, or catalytic converter. The maximum inflated diameter of the air spring is 4.5".
Yes. The manual states that use of on-board leveling systems do not require deflation or disconnection of the air springs. However, for other operations such as raising the vehicle by the frame, the system should be at minimum pressure (5 PSI) to reduce tension on suspension/brake components.
Before road testing, complete the following checks: (1) Clearance Test—inflate to 60 PSI and ensure at least 1/2" clearance around each sleeve from tire, brake drum, frame, shock absorbers, and brake cables; (2) Leak Test—inflate to 60 PSI and check all connections with soapy water solution; (3) Heat Test—verify at least 6" clearance from heat sources; (4) Fastener Test—recheck all bolts for proper torque (frame bolts 20 lb.-ft., U-bolt lock nuts 16 lb.-ft., lower mounting bolt 10 lb.-ft.). After these checks, road test at 25 PSI (50 PSI if loaded), drive 10 miles, and recheck for clearance, loose fasteners, and air leaks.
Inflate the air spring to 30 PSI. Spray all connections and inflation valves with a solution of 1 part liquid dish soap and 4 parts water. Look for bubbles in the soapy water to identify leaks. After the test, deflate the air springs to the minimum pressure required to restore Normal Ride Height, but not less than 10 PSI. Check the air pressure again after 24 hours—a 2 to 4 PSI loss after initial installation is normal. If the loss is more than 5 PSI, retest for leaks.
Check air pressure weekly. Always maintain Normal Ride Height and never inflate beyond 100 PSI. When increasing load, adjust air pressure to maintain Normal Ride Height. Always add air in small quantities, checking pressure frequently, as sleeves require less air volume than a tire and inflate quickly. After 30 days or 500 miles (whichever comes first), recheck the system for signs of rubbing or abrasion and check all fasteners for tightness. Do not exceed your vehicle's maximum Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.
When increasing load, always adjust the air pressure to maintain Normal Ride Height. Increase or decrease pressure from the system as necessary to attain Normal Ride Height for optimal ride and handling. Remember that loads carried behind the axle (including tongue loads) require more leveling force (pressure) than those carried directly over the axle. Always add air in small quantities, checking pressure frequently.
First, leak test the air line connections and the threaded connection of the elbow into the air spring using a soapy water solution. If found, repair as described in Section IX. Second, leak test the inflation valve for leaks at the air line connection or dirt/debris in the valve core. Third, inspect air lines to ensure they are not pinched by zip ties—loosen or replace if necessary. Fourth, inspect the air line for holes and cracks and replace if needed. Fifth, check for kinks or folds in the air line and reroute as needed. If these steps do not resolve the problem, the issue is likely a failed air spring, and you should call Air Lift Technical Support at 1-800-248-0892.
If there is a leak at the swivel fitting: (1) Check the air line connection by deflating the spring, removing the line by pulling the collar against the fitting and pulling firmly on the air line, trimming 1" off the end with a clean square cut, and reinserting the air line into the push-to-connect fitting. (2) If still leaking, check the threaded connection by tightening the swivel fitting another 1/2 turn. (3) If it still leaks, deflate the air spring, remove the fitting, re-coat the threads with thread sealant, and reinstall by hand tightening as much as possible, then use a wrench for an additional two turns.
If there is a leak at the inflation valve: (1) Check the valve core by tightening it with a valve core tool. (2) Check the air line connection by removing the air line from the barbed fitting. Do not cut it off, as this will nick the barb and render the fitting useless. Instead, cut the air line off a few inches in front of the fitting and use pliers or locking pliers to pull/twist the air line off the fitting. If these steps do not resolve the problem, call Air Lift Technical Support at 1-800-248-0892.
If the air spring is misaligned or not inflated correctly, it will not have a symmetrical cushion of air around the lower base. This is corrected during the finishing phase by inflating to approximately 10 PSI and using the slotted adjustment in the lower bracket to align the air spring. Press all around the air spring and tap it inboard and outboard for proper alignment. The correct finished installation shows an even, symmetrical cushion of air around the entire lower base of the spring.

If still leaking, remove the fitting, re-coat the threads with thread sealant, and reinstall by hand tightening, then use a wrench for two additional turns.
The air spring is misaligned or not inflated to the correct pressure. Inflate to approximately 10 PSI. Using the slotted adjustment in the lower bracket, align the air spring by pressing all around it and tapping it inboard and outboard until there is a symmetrical cushion of air around the lower base. Once aligned, tighten the lower end by holding the bolt with a wrench and turning the air spring by hand—hand-tight is sufficient.
Reroute the air line to eliminate the kink or fold. Ensure the air line follows the frame with at least 6" clearance from heat sources such as exhaust pipes, muffler, or catalytic converter. Avoid sharp bends and edges. Use zip ties to secure the line to fixed, non-moving points, leaving at least 2" of slack to allow for suspension movement.
Loosen or replace the zip ties. The zip ties should be tight enough to secure the air line to the chassis but must not pinch or compress the air line. Leave at least 2" of slack in the air line to allow for suspension movement and prevent tension that could pull on the connections.
