Air Lift RideControl air helper springs are air-adjustable from 5 to 100 PSI and have up to 2,000 pounds of leveling capacity, right up to the manufacturer's recommended Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.
RideControl provides more safety, stability and ride comfort. The kit fits many popular vehicles with leaf springs, including half-ton and mini pickups, full-size and mini vans, and SUVs. Both front and rear applications are available for these vehicles. Each kit includes everything you need, and is easily installed in two hours or less. End caps are made of an ultra-strong nylon composite that is as strong as steel, but weighs less and is corrosion-proof. No. Adding air springs will not change the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of your vehicle. The kit does not alter the GVWR or payload. You must not exceed the maximum GVWR as indicated by the vehicle manufacturer, and exceeding it is dangerous and voids the Air Lift warranty. Check your vehicle's Safety Compliance Certification Label or owner's manual for the maximum load limits.

The minimum air pressure at all times is 5 PSI (.34BAR) for LoadLifter and RideControl systems. Operating the vehicle below this minimum pressure will void the Air Lift warranty and can lead to premature air spring failure. Maintaining minimum pressure helps the air spring maintain its shape and prevents bottoming out on some kits.
The maximum air pressure is 100 PSI (7BAR) for LoadLifter and RideControl systems. Never inflate to more than this pressure. Always add pressure in small quantities, checking the pressure frequently to avoid exceeding the maximum.
The minimum air pressure at all times is 5 PSI (.34BAR) for both Air Lift 1000HD and Air Lift 1000 systems. The maximum air pressure is either 35 PSI (2.4BAR) or 50 PSI (3.5BAR), depending on the specific kit. Check air pressure weekly. An overnight leak-down test is also recommended: recheck pressure after 24 hours of use. A 2–4 PSI loss is normal after initial installation. If pressure drops more than 5 PSI (.34BAR) overnight, there may be a leak that needs fixing.
When increasing load, adjust air pressure to maintain normal ride height. Use air pressure to raise the end of the vehicle that is squatting back to its normal ride height. It may be necessary to apply more air pressure to one side if the load is uneven. If the vehicle has a single-path air control system, redistribute the load side to side. Always prioritize stability over a level or comfortable ride.
If the vehicle feels like it is bottoming out, increase air pressure. If the headlights are aimed too high, try increasing air pressure in the rear air springs. If the front of the vehicle dives while braking, increase the pressure in the front air springs if equipped. When in doubt, add air.
Yes, for short-term service work such as tire rotation or oil changes, the vehicle can be lifted on a frame hoist with the air springs set to their minimum pressure (5 PSI / .34BAR). However, if the vehicle will be on the hoist for a prolonged period of time, support the axle with jack stands to take the tension off the air springs and prevent damage.
If the air springs are properly installed and maintained, they should last indefinitely. Proper maintenance includes checking air pressure weekly, maintaining minimum pressure of 5 PSI (.34BAR), periodically checking fasteners for tightness, spraying air springs with water to remove mud and debris, and conducting a 30-day or 500-mile inspection for signs of rubbing or abrasion.
Post-installation maintenance includes: (1) 24-hour pressure check — recheck pressure after 24 hours of use; (2) 30-day or 500-mile inspection — check for signs of rubbing or abrasion and verify all fasteners are tight; (3) weekly pressure checks; (4) periodic inspection of fasteners for tightness (torque specifications are in the Installation Guide); (5) occasional cleaning with water spray to remove mud and debris; (6) when raising the vehicle on a hoist for service, set the system to minimum pressure (5 PSI) to reduce tension on components.
If any part shows signs of rubbing or abrasion during the 30-day or 500-mile inspection, identify the source and move it if possible. If it is not possible to relocate the cause of the abrasion, the air spring may need to be remounted. If the system was professionally installed, consult the installer. Check all fasteners for tightness and refer to the Installation Guide for proper torque specifications if any fasteners have loosened.
To find air leaks: (1) Inflate the air springs to 30 PSI (2.1BAR). (2) Spray all connections with a solution of liquid dish soap and water. (3) Wait 30 seconds and check for bubbles, which indicate leaks. (4) Check air pressure again after 24 hours. A 2–4 PSI loss after initial installation is normal. If the loss is more than 5 PSI (.34BAR), retest for leaks.
If there is a leak at the Schrader valve, tighten the valve with a valve core tool.
To fix a leak at a barbed fitting: (1) Cut the air line 1½" (38mm) behind the fitting. (2) Use pliers or locking pliers to twist and pull the air line off the fitting. Do not cut the air line lengthwise at the fitting because this could nick the barbs and cause it to leak. (3) Reinstall the air line and the air line clamp if the fitting has one. Make sure the air line covers all barbs. (4) See the Cutting Air Lines section for proper cutting technique.
When cutting air lines, use a sharp knife or a hose cutter and make clean, square cuts. Do not use scissors or wire cutters because these tools will deform the air line, causing it to leak around fittings. Do not cut the lines at an angle. The maximum bend radius for 1/4" air line is 1" (25mm). Do not bend the air line more than this maximum bend radius or side load the fitting connections. Air lines are to be installed straight into fittings.
To fix a leak on a PTC fitting: (1) Disconnect the air line where it is leaking. (2) Check the mating surface on the fitting for burrs and remove if possible. If there are dings or indentations on the fitting mating surface, it may continue to leak and may need to be replaced. (3) To re-assemble, tighten the fitting one flat — or 1/6 of a full rotation — past finger tight. (4) Contact Air Lift customer service if the fitting continues to leak. To release the air line, first release all air from the system, push in on the air line, push the collar in, and with the collar depressed, pull the air line out of the fitting.
To fix a leak on braided stainless steel air lines: (1) Disconnect the air line where it is leaking. (2) Check the mating surface on the fitting for burrs and remove if possible. If there are dings or indentations on the fitting mating surface, it may continue to leak and may need to be replaced. (3) To re-assemble, tighten the fitting one flat — or 1/6 of a full rotation — past finger tight. (4) To ensure a proper seal, cut off the end of the air line just beyond the witness mark before reinstalling in the fitting. (5) If the fitting is leaking at the threads, it may be necessary to remove and re-apply thread sealant on the threads and re-install 1½ turns beyond finger tight. (6) Contact Air Lift customer service if the fitting continues to leak.
If the system won't maintain pressure overnight, the cause is likely an improperly installed air line, an air line with holes or cracks, or a hole in the air spring. Leak test all air line connections, threaded connections (if equipped), and all fittings in the control system (if equipped). If you suspect an air spring failure, contact Air Lift customer service.
If one or more air springs won't inflate, the cause may be a kink or fold in the air line, a control system malfunction, or an inflation valve that is plugged. Replace any air line that has been kinked. Check control system function by disconnecting an air line, operating the system, and checking for air pressure.
If an air spring or air line is leaking, the fitting seal or air line is likely compromised. Check to make sure air lines are seated in the fittings. Inspect fittings with soapy water. Trim the hose or re-seal the fitting. Ensure lines are cut straight. If the problem persists, contact Air Lift customer service.
No. Air pressure can be adjusted with any type of compressor as long as it can produce sufficient pressure to service the air springs. Even a bicycle tire pump can be used. However, an on-board air compressor system is optional and provides convenient, on-the-go control of the air springs from inside or outside the vehicle, eliminating the need to search for gas stations with working compressors. Air Lift offers single-path and dual-path systems with wireless, automatic, or analog control options.
Single-path systems inflate two air springs at the same time and are good for loads that are evenly distributed from left to right. Dual-path systems allow air springs to be controlled separately, enabling different air pressure from side to side, which is perfect for uneven or top-heavy loads.
Wireless control allows you to control the air springs from inside or outside the vehicle with no wires or hoses to the cab, offering the easiest installation. Automatic control adjusts air spring pressure automatically based on ride height for level leveling every time. Analog control provides in-cab control of the air springs and is the most economically priced option.
A standard-duty compressor will work well for most customers who use their system on an intermittent basis. For daily use, consider a heavy-duty compressor — it inflates faster and more quietly than the standard compressor.
