The ARIES Switchback headache rack is an aggressive, off-road-style truck headache rack that features rust-free construction, an LED-compatible top edge and a patented installation system -- all to make sure your truck not only stands out on the road, but also has the backbone to tackle the trail. The Switchback truck headache rack is built with all-aluminum construction, meaning you will never have to worry about rust. Aluminum offers solid strength while helping to keep your truck lightweight. The aluminum alloy is also protected with a highly durable carbide black powder coat finish that maximizes corrosion resistance and adds a sleek finishing touch. The Switchback is built to readily accept aftermarket lighting. Its top edge is a slotted channel that accepts LED light bars or work lights. Three 10" LED light bars (ARIES #1501260) are recommended. The slotted channel allows for easy installation of the lights and adjustable positioning. Installing the ARIES Switchback aluminum headache rack couldn't be easier with our patented mounting system. It features unique stake pocket anchors that requires no drilling or complicated procedures. Simply drop it in, tighten a single bolt on each side, and you're ready to hit the trails. The Switchback also features a three-piece assembly, making it easier to ship, and allowing you to mount the headache rack without the center section for easy access to the rear cab window. Each ARIES Switchback headache rack is designed for vehicle-specific installation for a custom fit. This particular model fit specific years of the Ford F-150 and F-150 Lightning (see application info to verify fitment). Brackets and mounting hardware are included.

Yes, the ARIES 1110112 Switchback Black Aluminum Truck Headache Rack Cab Protector, Select Ford F-150, Lightning (Part #BBDR1110112) is designed to fit the 2009-2026 Ford F-150.
The ARIES 1110112 Switchback Black Aluminum Truck Headache Rack Cab Protector, Select Ford F-150, Lightning (Part #BBDR1110112) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The kit includes three headache rack sections (driver/left, passenger/right, and center/middle), one center mesh panel, two stake pocket clamps, eight M8 hex bolts (1.25 x 25mm), eight M8 hex flange lock nuts, two M14 bolts (2.0 x 80mm), two M14 flat washers, two M14 lock washers, and eight adhesive wire ties.
The headache rack is designed for truck beds equipped with stake pockets. The manual does not specify vehicle makes, models, years, or bed lengths. Contact ARIES Automotive at 877.287.8634 or visit ARIESAUTOMOTIVE.COM to confirm fitment for your specific vehicle.
Yes. If your vehicle is equipped with bed rail molding, a spacer is provided to compensate for the molding height. The spacer attaches to the bottom of the mounting plate edge nearest the cab using double-sided tape (included).
Yes, you must locate and cut out the plastic stake pocket covers on both driver and passenger sides. However, some vehicles have removable stake pocket covers, so cutting may not be necessary. You must also remove the stake pocket plugs using a flathead screwdriver, unless your vehicle does not have plugs or they do not interfere with the stake pocket clamps.
You can choose to install the center mesh or leave the center open. The decision is made during assembly before the headache rack is mounted to the truck. Both configurations use the same mounting hardware.
Required tools are: ratchet, 13mm socket, 22mm socket, utility knife, flathead screwdriver, and 13mm open-end wrench. These tools are needed to cut stake pocket covers, remove plugs, assemble the sections, and tighten all fasteners.
You assemble the three sections (driver, passenger, and center) on a flat work surface before mounting to the truck. The driver and passenger sections are bolted to the center section using eight M8 bolts and lock nuts, loosely at first, then tightened to 15 ft-lbs once aligned. The assembled unit is then positioned on the truck bed and secured with stake pocket clamps.
Place the assembled headache rack on a work table with the slotted ends hanging off the sides. Insert an M14 bolt through the slot with an M14 lock washer and M14 flat washer, then attach to the stake pocket clamp. The clamp hangs down from the bottom of the mounting plate. Repeat for the passenger side. If your vehicle has bed rail molding, attach the provided spacer to the bottom of the mounting plate edge nearest the cab using double-sided tape before inserting the bolts.
Yes. The manual states 'with assistance' is required to hold the assembled headache rack in position over the stake pockets while you squeeze the clamps closed and lower them into the pockets, then slide the rack into the desired centered location.
With assistance, hold the assembled headache rack in position over the stake pockets. Squeeze the stake pocket clamps closed to lower them into the stake pockets. Once the clamps are lowered into the pockets, slide the headache rack into the desired location, ensuring it is centered on the vehicle.
The M8 bolts that connect the driver, passenger, and center sections together must be tightened to 15 ft-lbs. The general torque table lists M8 bolts at 7 ft-lbs, but Step 4 specifies 15 ft-lbs for this assembly.
The manual does not provide an explicit torque value for the M14 bolts. Step 7 instructs you to tighten the clamps only enough to eliminate movement in the headache rack and fully compress the lock washer. Do not overtighten, as this may damage the bed rail and void the warranty.
Only tighten the M14 stake pocket clamp bolts enough to eliminate movement in the headache rack and fully compress the lock washer. Overtightening the clamps may result in damage to your bed rail and void the warranty. As you tighten, the clamp will expand in the stake pocket and pull up to the top of the bed rail; ensure the clamp is fully expanded beyond the opening in the bed rail before fully tightening.
Periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight. For black finishes, mild soap may be used to clean the product. The manual does not specify inspection intervals or whether retorque is required after first use.
The 1110112 is designed for stake pocket-equipped truck beds. The manual does not list specific vehicle makes, models, or years. Contact ARIES at 877.287.8634 or ARIESAUTOMOTIVE.COM to confirm fitment.
