ARIES 3" side bars are more than a fancy decal for your truck, Jeep or SUV. They are a confident first step on each new adventure. These 3" nerf bars are constructed from strong carbon steel for superior rigidity, and they feature a sleek semi-gloss black powder coat finish. For an added edge, each nerf bar also goes through an E-coat process, before receiving its black powder coat, to strengthen and protect the final finish against peeling, chipping and scratching. ARIES 3" round side bars are also available in polished stainless steel or semi-gloss black powder-coated steel. All ARIES 3" nerf bars come with heavy-duty steel brackets and non-skid step pads. The mounting brackets are strong and custom-designed for specific makes and models to allow the side bars to contour to the lines of your vehicle. They offer easy installation and the strength necessary to provide sound footing. These particular custom nerf bars fit specific years of the Ram 1500, 2500 or 3500 and Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 or 3500 (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES 3" round side bars also come with non-skid step pads made of tough polypropylene. These step pads feature a textured pattern for enhanced safety, and they cover a wide portion of the tubes for a more comfortable step.

The ARIES 205039 3-Inch Round Black Steel Nerf Bars, No-Drill, Fits Select Dodge, Ram 1500, 2500, 3500 (Part #BBDR205039) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the ARIES 205039 side bars fit vehicles from 2015 and older, but these vehicles do not have factory threaded inserts. The installation uses M10 nut plates and M10 hex bolts at the lower mounting positions instead of the M8 factory inserts found on 2015 and newer models. The bracket mounting procedure differs slightly between the two generations.
Yes, the ARIES 205039 side bars fit 2015 and newer vehicles that have factory threaded inserts. These vehicles use M8 factory inserts at the lower mounting positions. The installation procedure for 2015 and newer models is described in Step 3A and Step 4.
The kit includes two side bars (driver and passenger), two front mounting brackets (driver and passenger), two rear mounting brackets, and all required fasteners: M8 bolt plates (1), M8 hex bolts (5), M8 flat washers (7), M8 lock washers (7), M8 hex nuts (2), M8 plastic retainers (2), M10 hex bolts (4), M10 flat washers (4), M10 lock washers (4), M12 bolt/nut plates (4), M12 hex bolts (4), M12 flat washers (4 of 32mm and 4 standard), M12 lock washers (8), M12 hex nuts (4), and M12 plastic retainers (4).
You will need a torque wrench, sockets in 13mm, 16mm and 18mm sizes, a utility knife, and a level. The torque wrench is essential for securing fasteners to the correct specifications. The level is used to ensure the side bars are properly aligned during installation.
Yes. On the driver side, locate the two mounting locations underneath the vehicle and remove the tape plugs from each hole before inserting the bolt plates. This is done in Step 2 of the installation process.
Installation begins on the driver side. First, remove tape plugs and insert bolt plates (Step 2). Then secure the driver-side front mounting bracket (Step 3A or 3B depending on vehicle year). Next, install the rear bracket (Step 4). Attach the driver-side bar to the brackets (Step 5). Adjust and level the bar (Step 6). Repeat the same process for the passenger side (Steps 7–9). The manual recommends tightening all brackets to the vehicle first, then the side bar connections.
No. The manual instructs you to snug the hardware but not fully tighten it during the initial bracket and bar attachment (Steps 3A, 5). After the side bar is adjusted and levelled (Step 6), you then tighten all brackets to the vehicle first, followed by the side bar connections. This two-stage approach ensures proper alignment before final torquing.
M8 bolts should be torqued to 7 ft.-lbs. This applies to all M8 fasteners used in the installation, including those securing the front mounting brackets and rear bracket connections.
M10 bolts should be torqued to 7 ft.-lbs. This applies to M10 fasteners used on vehicles without factory inserts (2015 and older) and to the M10 bolts that attach the side bar to the brackets on all vehicles.
M12 bolts have two torque specifications depending on application. Standard M12 bolts are torqued to 16 ft.-lbs., while larger M12 bolts are torqued to 28 ft.-lbs. Refer to the torque specifications table on page 2 of the manual to confirm which specification applies to your fastener.
Plastic retainers are slid over the threads of M8 and M12 bolts to hold the bolt plates in place before the brackets are secured. They are used when inserting bolt plates into the rocker panel and body panel holes (Steps 2, 4, and 7) to prevent the bolts from falling out during bracket positioning.
Insert an M12 bolt/nut plate into the slot in the rocker panel and secure the M12 stud with a plastic retainer. Place the rear bracket in position. Secure the top of the bracket to the M12 stud with a flat washer, lock washer and nut. For the bottom: on 2015 and newer models with M8 factory inserts, use one M8 hex bolt, lock washer and flat washer; on 2015 and older models without M8 factory inserts, rotate the bolt plate to position the nut behind the lower mounting position and secure with an M10 hex bolt, flat washer and lock washer.
Place the side bar onto the brackets and align the mounting holes with the holes in the brackets on the vehicle. Attach the side bar to the brackets using two M10 hex bolts, two M10 lock washers and two M10 flat washers. Snug the hardware but do not fully tighten at this stage; final tightening occurs after the bar is levelled.
After placing the side bar onto the brackets (Step 5), use a level to adjust the side bar until it is properly aligned. Once levelled, tighten all brackets to the vehicle first, followed by the side bar connections. The manual recommends this sequence to ensure proper alignment before final torquing.
2015 and newer vehicles have factory threaded inserts and use M8 factory inserts at the lower mounting positions. 2015 and older vehicles do not have factory inserts and require M10 nut plates and M10 hex bolts at the lower mounting positions instead. The front bracket installation differs (Step 3A vs. 3B), the rear bracket installation differs (Step 4), and the passenger-side front bracket installation differs (Step 8). All other steps are the same.
Wax the product after installing to protect it. Regular waxing is recommended to add a protective layer over the finish. Do not use any type of polish or wax that may contain abrasives, as these could damage the finish. For polished, gloss and other smooth finishes, polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs. Clean with mild automotive detergent only; do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or similar products. Perform periodic inspections to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight.
