ARIES nerf bars are all made vehicle-specific for a custom, no-drill fit, and they are available in multiple finish options. This set of nerf bars is constructed from 304 stainless steel with a polished finish. Our 304 stainless steel is a true stainless with high nickel content, offering better corrosion resistance and a long-lasting finish. The polish is a triple application, resulting in a mirror-like shine to complement your vehicle. ARIES 3" round side bars also come with high-strength steel brackets and non-skid step pads. The mounting brackets -- as well as the side bars and step pads -- are custom-designed for specific makes and models to allow the nerf bars to contour to the lines of your vehicle. This ensures easy, no-drill installation and the strength necessary to provide solid footing. This particular set of custom nerf bars fits specific years of the Ram 1500, 2500 or 3500 and Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 or 3500 (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES 3" round si de bars also come with non-skid step pads made of polypropylene. These wide, custom-positioned step pads feature a textured pattern and cover a wide portion of the tubes to be more comfortable and high-traction, even in wet conditions.

Yes. The 205040-2 is designed for 2015 and newer vehicles with factory threaded inserts. Installation uses M8 bolt plates and M12 bolt/nut plates inserted into the factory holes. The M10 nut on the M12 bolt plate is not used on vehicles with threaded inserts.
Yes. The 205040-2 fits 2015 and older vehicles without factory threaded inserts. Installation uses the same M8 bolt plates and M12 bolt/nut plates, but the M10 nut is aligned with bottom rocker panel holes and secured with M10 hex bolts, lock washers and nuts (Step 3B). The rear bracket bottom also uses M10 fasteners instead of M8.
You will need a torque wrench, 13mm socket, 16mm socket, 18mm socket, utility knife, and level. Proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce installation time.
Yes. The manual states: "Before you begin installation, read all instructions thoroughly." This will help you understand the full process and identify whether your vehicle has factory threaded inserts (2015 and newer) or not (2015 and older), as the installation procedure differs between the two.
Installation proceeds in this order: (1) Install driver-side front mounting bracket and hardware; (2) Install driver-side rear bracket; (3) Attach driver-side bar to brackets and level it; (4) Tighten all driver-side brackets to the vehicle, then tighten the bar connections; (5) Repeat steps 1–4 for the passenger side. Snug hardware during installation but do not fully tighten until all brackets are in position and the bars are leveled.
Remove the tape plugs from the two mounting holes underneath the vehicle. Insert an M8 bolt plate into the front hole and an M12 bolt/nut plate into the rear hole, securing each with a plastic retainer. Place the bracket on the vehicle and secure the left side with an M12 flat washer, M12 lock washer and M12 hex nut on the M12 bolt plate, plus two M8 hex bolts, two M8 flat washers and two M8 lock washers on the bottom. Secure the right side with an M8 flat washer, M8 lock washer and M8 hex nut. Snug but do not fully tighten.
Follow Step 3A to install the bracket with M8 bolt plates and M12 bolt/nut plates. Then align the M10 nut with one of the bottom holes in the rocker panel and secure it with an M10 hex bolt, lock washer and nut. This secures the lower mounting point on vehicles without factory threaded inserts.
Insert an M12 bolt/nut plate into the slot in the rocker panel and secure the stud with a plastic retainer. Place the rear bracket in position. Secure the top of the bracket with a flat washer, lock washer and nut. For 2015 and newer vehicles with M8 factory inserts, secure the bottom with one M8 hex bolt, lock washer and flat washer. For 2015 and older vehicles without factory inserts, rotate the bolt plate to position the nut behind the lower mounting position and secure with an M10 hex bolt, flat washer and lock washer.
Place the side bar onto the brackets and align the mounting holes with the holes in the brackets on the vehicle. Attach the side bar using two M10 hex bolts, two M10 lock washers and two M10 flat washers. Snug the hardware but do not fully tighten at this stage.
After the side bar is in position and leveled, tighten all brackets to the vehicle first, followed by the side bar connections. This ensures proper alignment and prevents misalignment during final tightening.
Insert an M12 bolt/nut plate into the body panel and an M8 bolt plate into the top slot on the rocker panel, securing each with a plastic retainer. Place the bracket on the vehicle and secure the top front location with an M8 flat washer, lock washer and nut. Secure the top rear location with an M12 flat washer, lock washer and nut. For 2015 and newer vehicles, secure the bottom with one M8 hex bolt, lock washer and flat washer. For 2015 and older vehicles, rotate the bolt plate and secure with an M10 hex bolt, flat washer and lock washer.
M8 bolts should be torqued to 7 ft.-lbs. This applies to all M8 fasteners used in the installation unless otherwise noted in the instructions.
M12 bolts have two torque specifications depending on application: 16 ft.-lbs. or 28 ft.-lbs. The manual does not specify which fastening points use which value, so refer to the torque table on page 2 or contact ARIES Automotive at 877.287.8634 for clarification on specific mounting points.
Periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight. To protect the product, wax after installation and regularly thereafter. Use only mild automotive detergent for cleaning. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or similar products that may damage the finish. For polished, gloss and other smooth finishes, polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs. Do not use any polish or wax containing abrasives.
