The ARIES 2082036 TrailChaser Black Aluminum Jeep Wrangler JK Rear Bumper (Part #BBDR2082036) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The ARIES TrailChaser™ is a rear bumper assembly that replaces the factory bumper on compatible Jeeps. It consists of a center section, two side extensions, and optional LED work lights. The bumper is available in aluminum or steel with a textured black powder coat finish. Kit numbers 2082036 and 2082038 do not include LED lights; kits 2082061 and 2082060 include them.
Four kit options are available: 2082036 (aluminum, no LEDs), 2082061 (aluminum, with LEDs), 2082038 (steel, no LEDs), and 2082060 (steel, with LEDs). All kits include the center section, side extensions, and required hardware. LED kits include two LED work lights (#1501252) and a wiring harness with switch and relay.
You will need a torque wrench, socket set (including 16mm, 18mm sockets), level, and Allen wrench set. The installation is rated as moderate difficulty.
The center section includes 4 M12 x 35mm hex bolts, 4 M12 flat washers, and 4 M12 lock washers. Side extensions include M10 hex bolts (quantities vary by LED option), M10 button head bolts, M10 flat washers (two sizes: 20mm and 27mm), M10 lock washers, and M10 nuts. LED kits include 2 LED work lights and a complete wiring harness with switch, relay, fuses, and connectors. If ordering replacement parts separately, you receive only the hardware for that specific part.
Yes. Step 6 specifically requires help to lift the new bumper center section over the frame rails into position.
Starting on the driver side, use a 16mm socket to remove the M10 bolts holding the corners of the factory bumper support bracket to the frame. Repeat on the passenger side.
After removing the corner support brackets (Step 1), remove the center bumper bolts holding the Z-shaped brackets to the frame on both sides (Step 2). Then, using an 18mm socket, remove the bolts holding the stock tow hooks to the frame—these will not be reinstalled. Finally, lift the bumper off the frame rails and set it aside (Step 3).
Lay the bumper on a flat work surface. At each attachment point, secure the side extension with an M10 hex bolt, lock washer, two M10 x 20mm flat washers, and a nut. For non-LED side extensions, do this at all four mounting locations. For LED side extensions, do this at all three mounting locations (the fourth location is used for the LED light). Snug the hardware but do not fully tighten at this stage.
The C-channel bracket is placed into the frame of the Jeep to support the new bumper center section. If necessary, use a screwdriver to move the C-channel into place. Install one on the driver side and one on the passenger side.
With help, lift the new bumper center section over the frame rails. Secure it using M12 hex bolts, lock washers, and flat washers. Use an 18mm socket to snug the bolts but do not fully tighten at this stage. Repeat on the passenger side.
Secure the corner bumper bracket to the vehicle with M10 hex bolts, lock washers, and M10 x 27mm flat washers. Secure the corner bumper bracket to the bumper itself with M10 button head bolts, lock washers, M10 x 20mm and M10 x 27mm flat washers, and nuts. Repeat on the passenger side.
After all components are in place, check that the bumper is level using a level tool. Adjust if necessary, then fully tighten all hardware. This is done after the side extensions and corner brackets are attached but before any LED light installation.
M10 bolts should be torqued to 33 ft-lbs.
M12 bolts should be torqued to 58 ft-lbs.
No. Kits 2082036 (aluminum) and 2082038 (steel) do not include LED lights. Kits 2082061 (aluminum) and 2082060 (steel) include two LED work lights (#1501252) and a complete wiring harness with switch, relay, and connectors.
Mount the LED lights in the recessed pockets on the bumper corners using the provided hardware. Adjust each light to the desired angle and fully tighten all hardware.
Connect the harness extension to each LED light by inserting the male plug on the harness extension into the female socket on each light. Route the harness extension to the front of the vehicle and connect to the main wiring harness by inserting the male plug on the wiring harness into the female socket of the harness extension. Reconnect the blue, red, and black spade connectors to the switch. Connect the red fused wire with ring terminal to the positive (+) battery post and the black wire ring terminal to the negative (−) battery post or other suitable vehicle grounding point. Mount the relay to the vehicle and secure all wires with zip ties away from moving parts.
Disconnect the supplied switch from the wiring harness and install it in the desired location of your choice.
If the LED lights are being used with a 24V system, the relay will need to be replaced with a 24V unit. The kit is supplied with a 12V relay by default.
Secure all wires with zip ties away from moving parts to avoid damage. This prevents the wiring harness from being caught or damaged by vehicle components.
The manual states: 'Improper electrical installation may result in personal injury. Unless you are familiar with the installation and handling of electrical systems, have this step performed by someone who has that familiarity.' If you are not confident in your electrical knowledge, hire a qualified technician.
Test the LED lights (if installed) to ensure proper function. Perform periodic inspections to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight. See the 'Notes and Maintenance' section for care instructions.
To protect the product, wax after installing. Regular waxing is recommended to add a protective layer over the finish. Do not use any type of polish or wax that may contain abrasives that could damage the finish. For polished, gloss, and other smooth finishes, polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs. Mild automotive detergent may be used to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes, or other similar products that may damage the finish.
Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. Additionally, periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight.
The manual specifies this is a Jeep rear bumper replacement but does not list specific models, years, or cab styles. Contact ARIES Automotive at 877.287.8634 or check ariesautomotive.com for detailed fitment information.
Yes. You will need a torque wrench, socket set (16mm, 18mm), level, and Allen wrench set. A second person is required to lift the bumper into place.
No drilling is required. The bumper uses the existing factory frame mounting points and bolt holes.
M10 bolts: 33 ft-lbs. M12 bolts: 58 ft-lbs. Use a torque wrench to tighten all hardware after the bumper is leveled and in final position.
No. Kits 2082036 and 2082038 do not include LEDs. Kits 2082061 (aluminum) and 2082060 (steel) include two LED work lights and a complete wiring harness.
If you are not familiar with automotive electrical systems, yes. The manual warns that improper electrical installation may result in personal injury.
Wax regularly after installation. Use only mild automotive detergent for cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleaners, wire brushes, or abrasive waxes. Avoid dish detergent and abrasive pads.
First, test the lights to ensure proper function as instructed in Step 11. Verify that the harness extensions are fully inserted into the female sockets on each LED light and that the main wiring harness is fully connected to the harness extension. Check that the blue, red, and black spade connectors are properly reconnected to the switch. Confirm that the red fused wire is connected to the positive (+) battery post and the black wire is connected to the negative (−) battery post or suitable grounding point. If the vehicle has a 24V system, verify that a 24V relay (not the supplied 12V relay) is installed.
Before fully tightening all hardware, use a level tool to check the bumper position (Step 9). If it is not level, adjust the bumper by loosening the hardware slightly and repositioning it. Once level, fully tighten all hardware.
If necessary, use a screwdriver to move the C-channel into place, as shown in Step 5. This allows fine adjustment of the bracket position before securing the bumper.
