The ARIES TrailChaser Jeep Wrangler Aluminum Rear Bumper Corners with LEDs Bumper (Part #BBDR2081223) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The ARIES Rear TrailChaser™ is a frame-mounted rear bumper available in aluminum or steel with a textured black powder coat finish. It consists of a center section, two side extensions (driver and passenger), mounting brackets, and all required hardware. LED work lights (model 1501252) are included with certain kit numbers (2082061 aluminum, 2082060 steel) and not included with others (2082036 aluminum, 2082038 steel). All hardware is provided when ordering a complete kit.
The bumper is available in aluminum or steel. Aluminum kits are 2082036 (without LED lights) and 2082061 (with LED lights). Steel kits are 2082038 (without LED lights) and 2082060 (with LED lights). Both materials are finished with a textured black powder coat.
The manual confirms the bumper is designed for Jeep frame-mounted installation, but does not specify year, model, cab style, or bed length compatibility. Contact ARIES Automotive at 877.287.8634 or check ariesautomotive.com for detailed fitment information for your specific vehicle.
Required tools are: torque wrench, socket set (including 16mm and 18mm sockets), level, and Allen wrench set. A 16mm socket is used to remove factory bumper support bracket bolts, and an 18mm socket is used for center bumper bolts and to snug M12 hex bolts during installation.
Yes. Step 6 explicitly states 'With help, lift the new bumper center section over the frame rails.' At least one additional person is required to safely lift and position the bumper center section during installation.
Center section: 4× M12 × 35mm hex bolts, 4× M12 flat washers, 4× M12 lock washers, 2× C-channel brackets. Side extensions: 4–8× M10 × 35mm hex bolts, 6–8× M10 × 30mm hex bolts, 4× M10 × 40mm button head bolts, 16–20× M10 × 20mm flat washers, 8× M10 × 27mm flat washers, 14–16× M10 lock washers, 10–12× M10 nuts. Quantities vary depending on whether LED lights are included. LED kits also include 2× LED work lights (model 1501252) and a wiring harness with relay, switch, and connectors.
Battery disconnection is not mentioned in the general installation steps. However, if you are installing LED lights, you will need to connect wires to the battery positive and negative posts (Step 11), so ensure the battery is accessible and consider disconnecting it before making electrical connections if you are unfamiliar with electrical work.
Step 1: Starting on the driver side, use a 16mm socket to remove the M10 bolts holding the corners of the factory bumper support bracket to the frame. Repeat for the passenger side. This removes the existing bumper support before the new bumper can be installed.
Yes. Steps 1–3 require removal of the factory bumper support brackets (using 16mm and 18mm sockets), the factory bumper center bolts, the factory bumper itself, and the stock tow hooks (which will not be reinstalled). The factory bumper must be completely removed before the new TrailChaser™ bumper can be installed.
1. Remove factory bumper and brackets (Steps 1–3). 2. Lay the new bumper on a flat work surface and attach side extensions with M10 bolts, lock washers, flat washers and nuts—snug but do not fully tighten (Step 4). 3. Place C-channel brackets into the frame (Step 5). 4. Lift the assembled bumper over the frame rails with help (Step 6). 5. Secure with M12 bolts, lock washers and flat washers—snug but do not fully tighten (Step 7). 6. Secure corner brackets with M10 bolts and washers (Step 8). 7. Check level and fully tighten all hardware (Step 9). 8. If LED lights are included, mount and wire them (Steps 10–11). 9. Perform final inspection (Step 12).
No. The manual specifies 'snug but do not fully tighten' for side extension bolts (Step 4), center bumper bolts (Step 7), and corner bracket bolts (Step 8). Only after checking that the bumper is level (Step 9) should you fully tighten all hardware. This allows for alignment adjustment before final tightening.
Lay the bumper on a flat work surface. At each attachment point, use one M10 hex bolt, one lock washer, two M10 × 20mm flat washers, and one M10 nut. If installing without LEDs, fasten all four mounting locations per side. If installing with LEDs, fasten three mounting locations per side (the fourth location is occupied by the LED light). Snug the hardware but do not fully tighten until the bumper is leveled and positioned on the vehicle (Step 9).
The C-channel bracket is placed into the frame of the Jeep to provide a mounting point for the bumper center section. Two C-channel brackets (one per side) are positioned in the frame before the bumper is lifted into place. If necessary, a screwdriver can be used to move the bracket into proper position.
After securing the bumper center section with M12 bolts and corner brackets with M10 bolts (but before fully tightening), use a level to check that the bumper is level. Adjust the bumper position as necessary. Once level, fully tighten all hardware using the specified torque values.
M10 bolts: 33 ft-lbs. M12 bolts: 58 ft-lbs. These torque values apply to all M10 and M12 fasteners unless otherwise noted in the installation steps. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightening after the bumper is leveled and positioned.
Wiring is required only if you are installing LED lights (included with kits 2082061 and 2082060). If your kit does not include LED lights, no wiring is necessary. If LED lights are included, you must mount the lights, connect the harness extension to each light, route the harness to the front of the vehicle, connect to the main wiring harness, reconnect spade connectors to the switch, and connect the fused red wire to the battery positive post and black wire to the battery negative post or grounding point.
Connect the harness extension to each LED light by inserting the male plug into the female socket. Route the harness extension to the front of the vehicle and connect the male plug on the wiring harness into the female socket of the harness extension. Reconnect the blue, red, and black spade connectors to the switch. Connect the red fused wire with ring terminal to the positive (+) battery post. Connect the black wire ring terminal to the negative (−) battery post or other suitable vehicle grounding point. Mount the relay to the vehicle and secure all wires with zip ties away from moving parts.
The bumper is supplied with a 12V relay. If your vehicle uses a 24V electrical system, you must replace the supplied relay with a 24V unit before connecting the lights. The manual does not provide details on sourcing the 24V relay; contact ARIES Automotive at 877.287.8634 for assistance.
The switch location is not specified in the manual. Step 10 states 'Disconnect the supplied switch from the wiring harness and install in the desired location,' allowing you to choose a convenient location inside the vehicle. Ensure the switch is mounted securely and wires are routed safely away from moving parts.
Read all instructions thoroughly before beginning. Use proper tools to improve installation quality and safety. If you are not familiar with electrical system installation and handling, have the electrical work performed by someone who is—improper electrical installation may result in personal injury. Secure all wires with zip ties away from moving parts to avoid damage. Use a level to ensure the bumper is properly aligned before final tightening.
Wax the bumper after installation. Regular waxing is recommended to add a protective layer over the finish. Do not use any type of polish or wax that may contain abrasives, as these could damage the finish. For polished, gloss, and other smooth finishes, polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs. Clean the bumper with mild automotive detergent only. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes, or similar products that may damage the finish.
After installation, verify that the bumper is level using a level tool before fully tightening all hardware (Step 9). If LED lights are installed, test them to ensure proper function (Step 11). Periodically inspect all mounting hardware to ensure it remains tight, and perform periodic inspection of all wires and connections to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections.
The manual specifies that periodic inspection of all mounting hardware should be performed to ensure it remains tight. Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should also be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. Specific intervals are not provided; inspect the bumper regularly as part of routine vehicle maintenance.
Use mild automotive detergent to clean the bumper. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes, or other similar products that may damage the finish. After cleaning, wax the bumper regularly to maintain a protective layer over the finish.
The manual confirms the bumper is designed for Jeep frame-mounted installation. For specific year, model, and cab compatibility, contact ARIES Automotive at 877.287.8634 or visit ariesautomotive.com.
Torque wrench, socket set (16mm and 18mm), level, and Allen wrench set. You will also need at least one additional person to help lift the bumper center section.
M10 bolts: 33 ft-lbs. M12 bolts: 58 ft-lbs. Torque all fasteners after the bumper is leveled and positioned.
Wax the bumper after installation and regularly thereafter. Use only mild automotive detergent to clean it. Do not use abrasive cleaners, wire brushes, or abrasive wax, as these will damage the finish.
No. Snug all bolts first, then check that the bumper is level. Only after leveling should you fully tighten all hardware to the specified torque values.
Yes. Steps 1–3 require complete removal of the factory bumper support brackets, bumper center bolts, the factory bumper, and stock tow hooks before the new TrailChaser™ bumper can be installed.
1. Test the lights to ensure proper function after installation (Step 11). 2. Verify that the male plug on the harness extension is fully inserted into the female socket on each LED light. 3. Verify that the male plug on the wiring harness is fully inserted into the female socket of the harness extension. 4. Check that the blue, red, and black spade connectors are properly reconnected to the switch. 5. Verify that the red fused wire is connected to the positive (+) battery post and the black wire is connected to the negative (−) battery post or grounding point. 6. If your vehicle uses a 24V system, confirm that the relay has been replaced with a 24V unit (the supplied relay is 12V only). 7. Ensure all wires are secured with zip ties and not pinched or damaged.
Before fully tightening all hardware, use a level to check the bumper alignment (Step 9). If the bumper is not level, loosen the M12 center bolts and M10 corner bracket bolts (which should still be snug, not fully tightened) and adjust the bumper position until it is level. Then fully tighten all hardware to the specified torque values: M10 bolts to 33 ft-lbs and M12 bolts to 58 ft-lbs.
During Step 4, when attaching side extensions to the bumper on a flat work surface, snug the M10 bolts, lock washers, flat washers, and nuts at each attachment point but do not fully tighten. This allows for minor adjustment. Once the bumper is lifted onto the vehicle frame and positioned, you can make final alignment adjustments before fully tightening all hardware in Step 9.
For polished, gloss, and other smooth finishes, polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs on the finish. For general cleaning and maintenance, use only mild automotive detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes, or abrasive wax, as these will cause further damage. Regular waxing is recommended to protect the finish and prevent future damage.
