ARIES 3" round side bars are a reliable and budget-friendly option for side steps on your truck. This set of nerf bars offers solid rust resistance, a custom fit and a no-drill installation. Constructed from stainless steel, these 3" side bars are perfect for work or play, easily withstanding dirt, water, mud, sand, snow and road salt and maintaining dependable corrosion resistance even offroad. They also come with a durable semi-gloss black powder coat finish that greater enhances rust resistance, and helps keep the nerf bars looking clean in spite of minor scuffs and scratches. 3" diameter, heavy-wall tubing is used to construct the steps, providing excellent strength and rigidity for safe, comfortable entry and exit. These 3" round nerf bars also feature non-skid step pads to further enhance safety. The step pads are textured to increase traction, and they are custom-placed to match the door layout for a convenient step up right where you need it. To ensure the best fit and appearance on your truck, every set of 3" side bars is made vehicle-specific. This means the steps are bent to a specific contour to complement the shape of the vehicle's rocker panels. It also makes for a much easier installation compared to any universal nerf bars or running boards. These particular 3" nerf bars are designed to fit specific years of the Ram 1500 (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES side bars use heavy-duty, vehicle-specific brackets that mount using pre-existing factory holes to completely eliminate drilling from the installation process. The 215045 is a pair of 3-inch sidebars manufactured by Aries Automotive (CURT Group). Each sidebar is mounted to the vehicle body using factory studs and body mounts, with support brackets and hardware included. The installation is rated as easy difficulty.
The kit includes four 1/2" x 2" hex bolts, four 1/2" flat washers, four 1/2" lock washers, twelve 8mm nylon lock nuts, and twelve 8mm flat washers. The mounting brackets and support brackets are also included. Factory body bolts and washers are reused during installation.
Before installation, remove all contents from the box and verify all parts are present. Read all instructions carefully. Use a wire brush or thread die to remove paint buildup from the three factory studs at each mounting location. Clean threads on the factory body bolts to remove paint buildup before reinstalling them. The manual recommends having assistance available.
Install the driver/left side first, then repeat the same steps for the passenger/right side. Place the mounting bracket over the three factory studs with the flat side against the body panel. Attach using three 8mm flat washers and three 8mm nylon lock nuts. Leave the bracket loose at this time; do not tighten until after the sidebar is positioned and leveled.
Remove the factory body bolt and washer from the body mount. Clean the threads on the body bolt to remove paint buildup. Reuse the factory body bolt and washer to attach the upper slot in the support bracket to the body mount. The support bracket is then ready to receive the sidebar.
With assistance, line up the front end of the sidebar with the front brackets. Attach the front end using one 1/2" x 2" hex bolt, one 1/2" lock washer, and one 1/2" flat washer. Do not tighten. Move to the rear and repeat with the rear brackets. Once both ends are attached, level and adjust the sidebar as necessary, then fully tighten all hardware.
Leaving the hardware loose during initial attachment allows you to level and adjust the sidebar to the correct position before final tightening. This ensures proper alignment and fit. Once the sidebar is positioned correctly, all hardware is fully tightened.
Use the following torque specifications: 1/2" bolts (used for sidebar attachment) = 28 ft-lbs; 8mm bolts (used for mounting bracket attachment) = 7 ft-lbs. These are the only fastener sizes used in the 215045 installation. Use these torque settings unless otherwise noted in the manual.
