Bolt Bag #1 contains eight 1/2" × 2" carriage bolts, one 1/2" × 4–1/2" carriage bolt, two 1/2" × 1–1/2" cap screws, nine 1/2" flat washers, eleven 1/2" lock washers, nine 1/2" finish nuts, four 5/8" × 4" cap screws, seven 5/8" flat washers, four 5/8" lock washers, and four 5/8" finish nuts. Bolt Bag #2 contains nine offset rectangle washers, nine 1/2" U-shaped spacers, two threaded spacer blocks, one tube spacer, one large rectangle washer, and one frame bracket spacer.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill six holes in the rear mounting rail location and five holes in the forward mounting rail location. Holes are marked with a center punch, pilot-drilled with a 1/8" bit, then enlarged to 9/16". One hole at the center forward location on the rear rail must be enlarged to 7/8" in the bed only, as it passes through both the bed and a crossmember. Before drilling, always examine the area under the truck to ensure the fuel tank or other equipment will not be damaged.
The fuel tank of the truck may be directly below the area of the bed that needs to be drilled. Damage to the tank may result in property damage, serious injury, or death. Always carefully examine the area under the truck where modification will occur before drilling to ensure the tank or other equipment is not damaged.
The rear mounting rail should be positioned 29–3/8" from the rear edge of the bed (measured over the rear edge, not on any part of the tailgate). The rail must be centered in the bed by measuring the distance from either side of the rail to the sides of the wheel wells; both measurements should be equal. The mounting rail is designed to install only at this described location; failure to place it precisely may result in added difficulty during installation or property damage.
The polypropylene tape provides a protective layer between the aluminum body of the truck bed and the steel components of the kit to prevent galvanic corrosion. Apply four strips along the bottom of the entire length of both mounting rails without covering any holes. Also apply tape to the outside edge of each flange on the frame brackets and to washers as needed when they are mounted against the bed.
U-shaped spacers function as space fillers between the mounting rails and the kit attachment hardware to accommodate the corrugation in the truck bed. Always place a U-shaped spacer in the gap either above the bed (between the mounting rail and the bed) or below the bed (between the bed and the frame brackets). Failure to use U-shaped spacers will result in property damage when hardware is tightened.
Use the hardware tool included in the kit to hold the threaded spacer block and insert it into the bed crossmember below the drilled 9/16" hole. From the top of the bed, place a 1/2" × 1–1/2" cap screw and 1/2" lock washer into the mounting rail and through the bed. Thread the cap screw into the threaded spacer block until the block is firmly against the bottom of the bed. Ensure the spacer block is in line with the corrugations of the bed and will not deform the bed when tightened. The hardware tool can be bent if needed to aid in positioning the spacer block. Repeat on both sides of the truck.
The 1/2" × 4–1/2" carriage bolt belongs in the forward center hole of the rear rail and should pass through the tube spacer placed under the rail. The other four holes in the rear rail receive 1/2" × 2" carriage bolts. All carriage bolts are fastened with offset rectangle washers, 1/2" flat washers, 1/2" lock washers, and 1/2" finish nuts.
Place the forward mounting rail into the truck bed in front of the rear mounting rail. Place the Patriot 5th Wheel or Slider Base over the rail attachment points and carefully lower it until the pin tabs pass through the attachment points on the rear mounting rail. Attach the forward mounting rail to the forward mounting points on the base. The base should rest flat against the top of the rails. Before drilling forward mounting holes, pull the RV base toward the rear of the truck and push the forward rail toward the cab of the truck to correctly space the mounting rails.
All 1/2" nuts in the mounting rails must be torqued to 80 ft-lbs using a torque wrench.
All 5/8" nuts in the frame brackets must be torqued to 150 ft-lbs using a torque wrench.
When towing a wedge car trailer, towing stability greatly depends on keeping the center of gravity as low as possible. Load heavy cars over the axles and never tow with a single car on the front of the trailer. Never exceed speeds that are reasonable for the roadway conditions (such as turns or curves). Failure to account for proper trailer center of gravity and reasonable speeds may cause damage to the truck, trailer, towing components, and loss of attachment between the truck and trailer.

Exceeding these ratings may cause damage to towing components or loss of attachment between the trailer and truck. Without proper knowledge, towing can be dangerous. A visual inspection of the hitch should be performed before each time you tow. Regularly check that all pinned connections are secure and that all bolted connections are at the correct torque specification (1/2" nuts at 80 ft-lbs, 5/8" nuts at 150 ft-lbs). Check for cracks or damage to the hitch. Do not tow with the hitch if cracks or damage outside of normal wear is found. Towing with a damaged or cracked hitch could result in damage to the tow vehicle, trailer, towing components, or loss of attachment between the tow vehicle and trailer.
