Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

The Blue Ox Gooseneck Hitch Gooseneck Trailer Hitch DH2102 (Part #FDRWDH2102) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the DH2102 is designed for 2014-2017 Ram 2500 with all bed lengths. However, if a bed liner is installed, you must account for the bed liner thickness when measuring the ball location in the box bed.
The DH2102 is rated for a maximum Gross Towing Weight of 30,000 lbs and a tongue weight of 7,500 lbs. However, you must not exceed your vehicle's maximum towing capacity as stated in your vehicle's owner's manual. Always refer to the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations.
You will need: a torque wrench, drill, tape measure, Loctite Red, 3/16" drill bit, 3/8" drill bit, 1/2" drill bit, and a 5" hole saw. A reciprocating saw is also required for cutting notches, and a board is recommended to prevent drill bit wobbling. Silicone spray is recommended to ease exhaust hanger removal.
Yes. The first installation step is to remove the spare tire using the vehicle's jack handle tool, following the procedure in your vehicle's owner's manual.
Yes. The exhaust hangers must be removed and reinstalled as part of the installation. Step 4 instructs you to drop the exhaust by sliding the hanger off the rubber insulator. Using silicone spray on the hangers eases removal. The exhaust is reinstalled in step 15 after the hitch is secured.
Yes. Drilling and trimming are required. You will drill a 3/16" pilot hole through the cross-member using the provided template, then a 5" hole through the bed. Additional 3/16" pilot holes are marked with the template and enlarged to 3/8". Finally, 1/2" holes are drilled for the safety chain u-bolts. A reciprocating saw is used to cut marked notches, and grinding or filing is required to smooth sharp peaks.
A 5" hole saw is required. When drilling, ensure the cross-member is not drilled into. Using a board while drilling decreases chances of the bit wobbling out of position. It is recommended to deburr the hole so the hitch will sit tight against the bed.
The 5" hole drilled through the truck bed is permanent. Notches are cut from the frame using a reciprocating saw and removed. Sharp peaks are ground or filed away. These modifications cannot be reversed. All other components (exhaust, heat shielding, spare tire) are reinstalled after installation.
Yes. Using a 10 mm socket, remove the four bolts from the heat shielding—two toward the top and two toward the bottom. Bend the shielding away during installation. The heat shielding is reinstalled in step 15.
Torque specifications vary by bolt size. For example: 1/4" Grade 5 bolts are 10 ft-lbs (Grade 8: 14 ft-lbs); 3/8" Grade 5 bolts are 33 ft-lbs (Grade 8: 47 ft-lbs); 1/2" Grade 5 bolts are 78 ft-lbs (Grade 8: 119 ft-lbs); 5/8" Grade 5 bolts are 154 ft-lbs (Grade 8: 230 ft-lbs). Refer to the torque chart on page 1 for all sizes. Always use Loctite Red on all bolts before tightening.
Torque specifications for metric bolts vary by size and grade. For example: 6 mm Grade 8.8 bolts are 6 ft-lbs (Grade 10.9: 8 ft-lbs); 10 mm Grade 8.8 bolts are 31 ft-lbs (Grade 10.9: 40 ft-lbs); 12 mm Grade 8.8 bolts are 54 ft-lbs (Grade 10.9: 70 ft-lbs). Refer to the metric torque chart on page 1 for all sizes.
The pilot hole template is inserted into the cross-member gap beneath the bed to mark the location for drilling. A 3/16" pilot hole is drilled through the template. The template is also used later to mark pilot holes and slots for the frame mounting points, which are then enlarged to 3/8".
The two nut plates are inserted in the wheel well between the box and frame on both sides of the vehicle. They must be centered and positioned so the drilled holes align with the tapped holes in the top assembly. The nut plates secure the center section components.
1. Rotate the locking collar to release the latch pawl. 2. Align the ball with the collar and drop the ball into the hitch. 3. Release the locking collar. 4. Pull up on the ball to ensure it is locked into the housing. Always ensure the hitch ball is locked into the hitch prior to towing.
1. Rotate the locking collar to release the latch pawl. 2. Pull straight up on the ball to remove it from the hitch.
1. Rotate the locking collar to release the latch pawl. 2. Align the ball with the collar and drop the ball into the hitch. 3. Release the locking collar. A plug is included with the hitch that can be used to cover the socket when the ball is removed.
Vehicle must be securely blocked and brakes set before working underneath. Do not use any open flame under the truck bed to cut or weld—there is extreme danger of explosion or fire. When using power drills, be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length. When using a reciprocating saw, be aware of objects behind the cutting surface. Do not clamp the hitch over any wiring or brake lines.
If the hitch is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the hitch if it is damaged or missing parts.
Yes, trailer brakes are required. This is stated as a requirement in the manual warnings.
Always make sure the trailer is loaded slightly tongue heavy. Do not pull a trailer that is lighter on the tongue end. This ensures proper weight distribution and safe towing.
When inverting the ball, ensure proper clearance between the ball and the truck's differential and drive line. Failure to do so may result in damage. A plug is included with the hitch that can be used for covering the socket when the ball is removed.
Periodically clean any dirt and debris from the ball and ball housing. Moderately lubricate them with white lithium grease or equivalent grease.
Use a replacement bolt of the same grade as the original. In most cases it will be Grade 5. Refer to the parts list in the manual to identify the correct grade for each bolt. Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Using non-genuine or incorrect replacement parts will void the manufacturer's warranty.
Place all components that are removed on a flat, sturdy surface. All items will be reinstalled unless otherwise noted after the hitch is installed. This includes the spare tire, exhaust, and heat shielding.
The dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable. While the DH2102 was designed for easy installation, it may be necessary to modify the hitch slightly to compensate for vehicle manufacturer's tolerances. This is why careful measurement and fitting during installation is important.
Yes, the DH2102 fits all bed lengths on 2014-2017 Ram 2500. If a bed liner is installed, account for its thickness when measuring ball location.
The DH2102 is rated for 30,000 lbs Gross Towing Weight and 7,500 lbs tongue weight. Always verify your vehicle's maximum towing capacity in the owner's manual and do not exceed it.
Torque wrench, drill with 3/16", 3/8", 1/2" bits and 5" hole saw, tape measure, Loctite Red, reciprocating saw, and silicone spray (recommended). A board is recommended to prevent drill bit wobbling.
Yes. Both must be removed before installation and reinstalled after. The spare tire is removed first using the vehicle's jack handle tool. The exhaust hangers are removed by sliding them off the rubber insulators.
Always ensure the hitch ball is locked into the hitch prior to towing. Rotate the locking collar to lock the ball, then pull up on it to verify it is secure.
Yes, trailer brakes are required. Additionally, always load the trailer slightly tongue-heavy and do not exceed the vehicle's maximum towing capacity.
Periodically clean dirt and debris from the ball and housing. Lubricate moderately with white lithium grease or equivalent.
Verify that the provided hardware has been installed correctly into the upper assembly to secure the center section components. The manual notes that the rotating collar should function freely after installation. If it is binding, check that all components are properly aligned and that no hardware is over-tightened or misaligned.
Ensure that the lip of the collar seats comfortably into the hole of the cross-member. If it does not seat properly, verify that sharp peaks have been fully ground or filed away in step 8. The top section's bottom lip must have a comfortable fit in the cross-member hole. If peaks remain, continue grinding or filing until proper fit is achieved.
1. Rotate the locking collar to release the latch pawl. 2. Align the ball with the collar and drop the ball into the hitch. 3. Release the locking collar. 4. Pull up on the ball to ensure it is locked into the housing. If the ball still does not lock, verify that the locking collar is fully released before inserting the ball and that it is fully engaged after insertion.
