The Blue Ox BX1852 Tow Bar Bracket is a robust and reliable solution designed to make towing safer and more efficient. Constructed from high-quality steel, this tow bar bracket is designed to withstand the harshest of conditions. It features a powder coat finish in black that not only enhances its appearance but also provides superior resistance against rust and corrosion. Custom designed for each specific towed vehicle, it ensures a perfect fit and easy installation. The package includes all necessary hardware and a comprehensive instruction manual, allowing for a straightforward do-it-yourself setup.

Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

The BlueOx Tow Bar Base Plate, Front Mount, RV Flat Towing for Select, NISSAN VERSA SEDAN (Part #FDRWBX1852) fits 2015-2019 Nissan Versa models. The 2019 model year is the last year covered by this part number. For newer models, check for an updated version.
The BlueOx Tow Bar Base Plate, Front Mount, RV Flat Towing for Select, NISSAN VERSA SEDAN (Part #FDRWBX1852) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The manual specifies the BX1852 is designed for 2015-2019 Nissan Versa Sedan with manual transmission only. The manual does not confirm compatibility with automatic transmission versions. Contact Blue Ox Customer Care at (402) 385-3051 to verify fitment for automatic transmission models.
Yes, the BX1852 is designed for 2014-2017 Nissan Versa Note Hatchback models. The installation process for the Versa Note differs slightly from the Sedan, particularly in fascia and headlight removal steps, so follow the Versa Note-specific instructions provided in the manual.
The BX1852 attachment tab height is 16 inches and the width is 23 inches.
Required tools include: large vise grip, flat screwdriver, utility knife, Phillips screwdriver, torque wrench, drill, tape measure, 3/8" drill bit, 10MM socket, 13MM socket, 9/16" socket, 9/16" wrench, and T20 Torx. You will also need Loctite Red for all bolt threads.
Yes, the fascia must be removed and reinstalled during baseplate installation. For Versa Sedan, you will remove five push pins from the top edge, four Torx screws from the underside, two 10MM screws, six push pins from the underside, and two 10MM screws from behind the wheel well liners. For Versa Note, the process is different and includes removing the grille. All electrical connections must be disconnected before removing the fascia.
Yes, both headlights must be removed. For Versa Sedan, remove four 10MM screws from each headlight assembly. For Versa Note, remove three 10MM screws from each headlight assembly. Disconnect all electrical connections before removing the headlights. The headlights are reinstalled after baseplate installation.
Yes, the windshield washer fluid reservoir must be removed. Disconnect all lines from the reservoir and plug any fluid lines. Using a 10MM socket, remove the three screws from the washer reservoir. In the engine compartment, use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw from the neck. The reservoir is reinstalled after baseplate installation.
Yes, drilling is required. Using a 3/8" drill bit, you must drill four outer holes in the baseplate through the frame on both sides of the vehicle. The manual also notes that some trimming is required, including trimming the top part shielding on both sides and trimming the lower tab on the foam reinforcement (Versa Sedan only).
Trim the top part shielding as shown in the instructions and remove the lower push pin, discarding the shielding on both sides of the vehicle. For Versa Sedan only, trim off the lower tab from the foam reinforcement on the driver side and reinstall it. The manual recommends using a good quality paint to spray cut edges of frame to prevent rusting.
For 3/8"-16 Grade 5 bolts, torque to 33 foot-pounds. For 3/8"-16 Grade 8 bolts, torque to 47 foot-pounds. The baseplate uses 3/8"-16 x 1-1/4" Hex Head Bolts, Grade 5, ZP (part number 201-0368). Always use Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening.
The BX8869 Tail Light Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle. If you choose to install it, drill a hole according to the tail light wiring kit instructions. The manual does not state that it is mandatory, but it is strongly recommended.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating). Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual for the manufacturer's towing specifications and your vehicle's GVWR.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The BX1852 includes Class III Safety Cables (part number 226-0046, qty 2) and 3/8" Quicklinks (part number 229-0359, qty 2). The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame and must not mount against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables are to be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The cables must be on the inside of the frame support for reinstallation of the liner. The cables should be secured to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines. If additional options interfere with the suggested mounting, secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the instructions included with the permanent baseplate safety cables.
Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. After installation, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Verify that the baseplate is level and that all bolts are tightened to the appropriate torque specifications using Loctite Red.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Permanent baseplate safety cables should remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed on the vehicle. Register your product online at www.blueox.com to be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and/or recalls.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts. Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor.
No. Use only genuine factory replacement parts on your baseplate. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Failing to follow these instructions will void the manufacturer's warranty.
Blue Ox offers a three-year limited warranty from the date of delivery to the original retail purchaser. The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. Warranty coverage is valid only if the customer warranty card is returned within 30 days of purchase and a copy of the original invoice accompanies any warranty claim. The warranty does not cover incorrect or improper installation, improper use, modification, neglect, failure to properly service and maintain, misuse, accident, normal wear and tear, paint, or rust. The warranty is non-transferable. Register your warranty at http://blueox.com/warranty/

Yes. Two Class III Safety Cables and two 3/8" Quicklinks are included. They must be installed and attached to the frame rail or cross member. Do not mount them against wires, hoses, or brake lines.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight voids the warranty. Check your vehicle owner's manual for your GVWR and towing specifications.
Before drilling, ensure the baseplate is installed onto the frame, flushed with the top of the frame rail and centered on the existing bracket screw hole. Check that the baseplate is level and clamp it into place. If the baseplate is not level, reposition it before drilling the four outer holes. The manual notes that dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable, and it may be necessary to tailor the baseplate slightly to compensate for vehicle manufacturer's tolerances.
Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. Check that all connections to the fascia, headlights, and washer reservoir have been properly reconnected. If connections are still not functioning, verify that all plugs are fully seated and that no wires were damaged during removal or installation.
Always use Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening. Tighten all bolts according to the torque chart provided. It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for loose bolts before each towing trip and to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications.
