Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.

Protective covers and rags are recommended to prevent damage to cosmetic parts.
The kit includes: 4 nut plates with 10" wire (61-4604), 1 baseplate (61-6867), 2 attachment tab assemblies (62-3468), 1 breakaway bracket (102-7056), various hex head bolts in sizes 1/4"-20, 1/2"-13, and 3/4"-10, self-drilling screws, hex nuts, whiz lock nuts, flat washers, lock washers, 1 electrical bracket, 2 Class IV safety cables (226-0049), 2 quicklinks (229-0512), and 2 black cap plug receivers (290-0437). All bolts are Grade 5 zinc-plated unless otherwise specified.

Blue Ox towing products are intended to be installed by Blue Ox Dealers who are familiar with the products and have the equipment and knowledge necessary to do "fit work." The installation involves removal and reinstallation of the fascia, ACC sensor, bumper, and windshield washer fluid reservoir, along with drilling, trimming, and cutting. The following components must be removed and reinstalled after baseplate installation: fascia (front bumper cover), ACC sensor (on ACC-equipped models), metal bumper, windshield washer fluid reservoir, and plastic covers or air dam sections. The metal bumper will not be reinstalled. On driver's side, the speed control bracket must be moved out of the way. All removed components should be placed on a flat, sturdy surface during installation.
Yes. Drilling is required at multiple points. You must drill out two spot welds on the passenger side metal bumper and three spot welds on the driver side using a 13/32" drill bit. You must also drill two holes on each side of the baseplate using a 17/32" drill bit. Some vehicles may require the existing hole in the frame bottom to be reamed or drilled with a 25/32" drill bit. All cut edges of frame should be painted with quality paint to prevent rusting.
Yes. Trimming and cutting are required. You must cut across the bottom of the groove on the top outside of each bumper end, straight down on the outside of the frame rail, and across the bottom flush with the front of the frame. On ACC models, you must cut the top part of the plastic flap on the passenger side with a utility knife and notch out a little farther. On ACC models, you must also cut a small square notch out of the corner of the plastic air dam on the driver's side. Finally, you must cut the white tab off the backside of the fascia by the fog light on both ends. The fascia must be trimmed around the convenience links and attachment tabs before reinstallation.
No. The metal bumper will not be reinstalled. After drilling out the spot welds and removing the four bolts from each side, the bumper is discarded as part of the installation process.
Torque specifications depend on bolt size and grade. For Grade 5 bolts: 1/4" = 10 ft-lbs, 5/16" = 19 ft-lbs, 3/8" = 33 ft-lbs, 1/2" = 78 ft-lbs, 3/4" = 257 ft-lbs. For Grade 8 bolts: 1/4" = 14 ft-lbs, 5/16" = 29 ft-lbs, 3/8" = 47 ft-lbs, 1/2" = 119 ft-lbs, 3/4" = 380 ft-lbs. All bolts must be tightened according to the torque chart provided, and Loctite Red must be used on all bolt threads before tightening.
The 3/4"-10 bolts are Grade 5 and should be torqued to 257 foot-pounds. These bolts are used with 3/4" lock washers and 3/4"-10 whiz nuts on both sides of the baseplate at the frame bottom. Loctite Red must be applied to all bolt threads before tightening.
The 1/2"-13 bolts are Grade 5 and should be torqued to 78 foot-pounds. These bolts are used with 1/2" lock washers and are tightened with nut plates aligned inside the frame rail on both sides. Loctite Red must be applied to all bolt threads before tightening.

Yes. Two Class IV safety cables are included with the baseplate kit. The permanent baseplate safety cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. They are strongly recommended to prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose in the event the connection between the frame and baseplate fails. The cables must not rub against any hoses or moving parts, and must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
