Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. You must trim shielding with a reciprocating saw (Step 8a), trim the marked area below the shutters (Step 12), trim the marked area on the driver's side shutter (Step 13), trim the metal overhang at the marked area on both sides of the bumper and flatten it down (Step 14), cut corner plastic pieces off both sides (Step 15), trim the backside of the fascia for clearance (Step 16), and trim the marked area on the bottom of the bumper horn (Step 17). These modifications are permanent.

Only after these steps are complete should you fully tighten all hardware according to the torque chart.
The correct sequence is: 1) Install baseplate with 3/8 inch hardware but do not fully tighten (Step 18). 2) Install cross-member with 1/2 inch hardware but do not fully tighten (Step 19). 3) Install flat bracket and 1/2 inch hardware and tighten fully (Step 19). 4) Tighten cross-member bolts (Step 19). 5) Tighten the top two bolts on both sides of the side plate (Step 19). 6) Install and fully tighten lower support plate hardware (Step 21). 7) Drill and install additional 3/8 inch hardware (Step 20) and fully tighten. Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. This is critical because the fascia covers the work area and you will not be able to access connections once it is reinstalled.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating). Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. You must reference your vehicle owner's manual for the manufacturer's towing specifications and ensure you do not exceed your vehicle's GVWR.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The BX2667 includes two Class IV Safety Cables (part 226-0049) and two 1/2 inch Quicklinks (part 229-0512) for this purpose. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. However, these cables are not a replacement for legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
The permanent baseplate safety cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines. The manual provides two recommended installation options: Option 1 uses a convenience link tab on the baseplate, and Option 2 is for baseplates without convenience link tabs. If additional options interfere with suggested mounting, secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the General Information sheet.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for: cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure that Loctite Red is used on all bolts and that they are tightened to the recommended torque specifications. This is the owner's responsibility.

Place all components that are removed on a flat, sturdy surface. All items will be reinstalled unless otherwise noted after the baseplate is installed. This includes the fascia cover, fascia, headlights, and other parts removed during the installation process.
The dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable. While the baseplate was designed for easy installation, it may be necessary to tailor the baseplate slightly to compensate for vehicle manufacturer's tolerances. This is why professional installation by a Blue Ox Dealer is recommended.
