Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

The fascia cover, fascia, and headlights must be removed during installation and reinstalled after the baseplate is installed. The plastic bumper cover and temperature sensor must also be disconnected and removed. Shielding must be removed or repositioned depending on whether the vehicle has shutter models.
Yes. Drilling is required. Using a 1-1/4" hole saw, drill access holes in the side of the frame and in the face of the lower support on both sides of the vehicle. Using a 3/8" drill bit, ream out the rear existing hole on both sides. Along the top side of the frame, drill two 3/8" holes through both flanges on each side of the vehicle.
Yes. Trimming is required. The shielding must be trimmed as necessary on the passenger side for non-shutter models. The loom hook on the backside of the fascia must be trimmed for clearance of the baseplate. The fascia must be trimmed around the convenience links and attachment tabs. For shutter models, the lower shutters must be trimmed as needed to clear the baseplate.
According to the bolt torque specifications chart, 3/8"-16 Grade 5 bolts should be torqued to 33 foot-pounds. However, the manual also specifies that all bolts should be tightened according to the torque chart provided and to use Loctite Red on all bolt threads.

Yes. The baseplate should be leveled prior to fully tightening the bolts when installing it onto the frame in step 11.
Permanent baseplate safety cables prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails or becomes disconnected. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame using the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The cables must not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Two options are shown: Option 1 uses a quicklink around a crossmember or frame, and Option 2 is for baseplates with convenience link tabs. The cables must remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed and are to be used in conjunction with, not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. Reference your vehicle owner's manual for manufacturer's towing specifications.
When using power drills, be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length. Torque can cause the drill to suddenly rotate, and drill bits can be longer than expected, potentially drilling into components behind the cutting surface.
When using a reciprocating saw, be aware of objects behind the cutting surface to avoid damaging hidden components.
Be sure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly before reinstalling the fascia.
Use a good quality paint to spray cut edges of frame to prevent rusting.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. The attachment tabs should be removed when not in use if applicable.
The BX88334 4-Diode Wiring Kit w/ Resistors is recommended for this vehicle.
Many Blue Ox baseplates are designed to use existing holes and hardware to mount the baseplate to the towed vehicle. However, even though bolts are there, do not assume they are adequate for baseplate mounting. Always use the hardware supplied in the hardware kit and existing hardware as specified in the installation instructions.
If a bolt is lost or in need of replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade. In most cases it will be Grade 5. Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Failing to use the correct grade bolt will void the manufacturer's warranty.
When installing permanent baseplate safety cables, be sure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. The installer must watch for oil cooler and air conditioner lines, electrical wires and hoses, and missing parts or attaching points on the frame. If the baseplate is improperly installed and is against a wire or hose, it could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts some time after the actual baseplate installation.
The BX2657 fits 2015-18 Ford Edge (including Sport) but NOT models with 2.0L EcoBoost engine or Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). Check your vehicle specifications before purchasing.
