Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

The BlueOx Tow Bar Base Plate, Front Mount, RV Flat Towing for Select, CHEVY CORSICA E13 (Part #FDRWBX1611) fits the following vehicles: 1988-1992 Chevrolet Corsica. Always verify your specific year, make, and model before ordering.
The BlueOx Tow Bar Base Plate, Front Mount, RV Flat Towing for Select, CHEVY CORSICA E13 (Part #FDRWBX1611) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the BX1611 baseplate is designed for 1988-92 Chevrolet Corsica. However, dimensional variations between otherwise identical cars can be considerable, and it may be necessary to file a hole slightly to allow a bolt to clear during installation.
The kit includes the baseplate weldment (61-3675), cross brace weldment (61-3674), two angle bumper mount brackets (one D-side, one P-side), four 7/8" spacers, four 12mm x 50mm bolts with lock and flat washers, four 3/8-16 x 2.5" bolts with lock and flat washers, four 1/2-13 x 1.25" bolts with lock washers, four 1/2" hex nuts, two 1/2" flat washers (for use only if needed), and four 3/8" flat washers. Four bolts are supplied with the baseplate; the remaining fasteners are included.
Required tools are: 7mm socket, 10mm socket, 13mm socket, 19mm socket, 9/16" socket, 3/4" socket and combination wrench, jack, and Locktite Blue threadlocker.
You must remove: two rubber flaps covering the headlights (open quarter-turn fasteners and remove five screws from the grill), two headlight modules (remove two thumb screws at the top and unplug wiring), the grill top center section (five screws on top and two on bottom outside corners), and the plastic cowling above the bumper (remove wiring and set aside). The 1.5" strip along the bottom edge of the air dam must also be removed.
Yes. Two beams support the engine and transaxle. You must place a jack under each beam and apply enough pressure to hold the braces in place when the two front bolts on each beam are removed. The front bolts will not be reused for the baseplate installation.
Install the support angles on top of the existing bumper mount, one side at a time. The leg of the angle with the two 1/2" holes should be to the inside of the car. Reuse the existing bolts (inspect them first) and tighten the four bumper mount bolts securely. You may need to loosen and adjust the supports later for alignment, but these bolts must remain tight to keep the bumper from moving out of position.
1. Loosely bolt the baseplate assembly to the car using the four supplied 12mm x 50mm bolts, flat and lock washers. The two 3" wide tabs on the top of the baseplate go in the bottom outside slots of the lower center grill section. Place the 7/8" round spacers between the mount plates and the engine support beam. 2. Position the cross bar over the two 3" wide tabs on the baseplate (the bar sits between the bumper and radiator). Loosely attach using four 3/8 x 2.5" bolts, flat and lock washers. 3. Bolt the cross bar to the support angles using four 1/2 x 1.25" bolts and lock washers. Loosen and adjust supports one side at a time for alignment if needed. Add washers between the bar and angle to fill gaps (two washers are supplied). 4. When all bolts align, apply Locktite Blue and tighten securely.
No drilling is required. However, dimensional variations between cars may make it necessary to file a hole slightly to allow a bolt to clear. The location and size of the holes in the baseplate were designed to allow for easy installation.
Yes. The 1.5" strip under the air dam must be replaced after baseplate installation. Notches will need to be cut to allow for the mount plates. The notches should be approximately 4.625" wide and 0.75" deep. Alternatively, if you do not want to notch the strip, it can be left off the vehicle.
Four bolts are supplied with the baseplate. Based on the parts list, these are the four 12mm x 50mm hex head bolts (Grade 10.9), along with their corresponding 12mm lock washers and 12mm flat washers. All other fasteners (3/8" and 1/2" bolts, nuts, and washers) must be obtained separately or are included as additional components in the kit.
Do not substitute other devices if the tow bar pin and clip are lost. Contact the manufacturer or your dealer for replacement parts.
After installation, verify that all bolts are properly aligned and tightened with Locktite Blue applied. Ensure the bumper mount bolts are tight to prevent bumper movement. Confirm that the plastic cowling, headlight modules, grill center section, and cover flaps have been properly reinstalled. Install the tow bar and safety cables according to their included instructions.
Yes, the BX1611 is designed for 1988-92 Chevrolet Corsica. Dimensional variations between cars may require minor hole filing for bolt clearance.
You need: 7mm, 10mm, 13mm, 19mm, and 9/16" sockets, 3/4" socket and combination wrench, jack, and Locktite Blue threadlocker.
No, you do not need to remove the engine. You must support the engine and transaxle with jacks under the support beams while removing the front bolts from each beam.
Yes, the 1.5" air dam strip must be notched approximately 4.625" wide by 0.75" deep to clear the mount plates, or it can be left off entirely.
