Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Yes, the BX1937 is designed specifically for the 1998-00 Dodge Avenger Sport. Installation requires removal of the headlights, bumper molding, running light brackets, and notching of the radiator air shroud.
The manual specifies the BX1937 is for 1998-00 Dodge Avenger Sport only. Fitment for other model years or trim levels is not documented in this manual.
You must remove: (1) the headlight assemblies (three screws per side), (2) the running light brackets from below the bumper (two bolts on front, one on side), (3) the bumper molding and plating, (4) plastic push pins on the bumper molding and grill openings, and (5) the plastic air shroud surrounding the radiator must be notched.
No drilling is required. The baseplate uses existing holes on the vehicle's cross member. However, you must notch the plastic radiator air shroud: measure seven inches from the center of the shroud on both sides and make notches large enough for the middle braces to pass through. You must also trim a small portion of the outside plastic for the outside corners of the baseplate.
From the center of the plastic air shroud surrounding the radiator, measure seven inches toward each side and notch out holes large enough for the middle braces to pass through. Additionally, trim a small portion of the outside plastic at the outside corners of the baseplate to allow proper fitment.
The kit includes: (1) one weldment baseplate (61-5232), (2) two 8mm-1.25 x 25mm Grade 8 hex bolts (201-0378), (6) six 6mm-1 x 30mm hex bolts (201-0655), (2) two 8mm flat washers (203-0107), (6) six 1/4" flat washers (203-0001), (2) two 8mm lock washers (203-0102), and (6) six 1/4" lock washers (203-0008).
Required tools are: 10mm wrench, 8mm wrench, 7mm wrench, Loctite Blue, utility knife, and tape measure.
Hold the baseplate up to the existing holes on the cross member while protecting the radiator. Use the 8mm bolts with washers. Keep all bolts loose until they have all been started, then tighten them. Apply Loctite Blue to each bolt to prevent loosening during towing.
Replace the running light brackets using the 6mm bolts and washers supplied in the bolt bag. Apply Loctite Blue to each bolt to ensure they do not loosen while the vehicle is being towed.
Yes. The baseplate installer must watch for electrical wires and hoses and ensure the baseplate is not mounted against them. Improper installation against wires could cause electrical shorts. The installer is responsible for checking for oil cooler and air conditioner lines, electrical wires, hoses, and missing frame attachment points.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing with the BX1937. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. However, permanent baseplate safety cables are not a replacement for legally required safety cables that attach the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle. Do not mount the safety cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines.
The primary function of permanent baseplate safety cables is to prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose in the event the connection between the frame of the towed vehicle and the baseplate fails or becomes disconnected. Each cable must have an adequate weight rating for the towing system; the combined rating of two cables together does not qualify as adequate.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all bolts are tightened to the recommended specifications and use Loctite Red on all bolts.
Yes. It is crucial to register your product online at www.blueox.com so that you may be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and/or recalls.
After baseplate installation: (1) replace the bumper molding and headlights, (2) install the tow bar and safety cables according to their included instructions, (3) do not substitute other devices if the tow bar pin and clip are lost, and (4) ensure the user receives the instruction sheet.
