Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Yes, the BX1926 is designed specifically for the 1995 Dodge Intrepid. The baseplate bolts to the steel inner bumper and engine subframe using four supplied bolts.
Only tow bars approved by Automatic Equipment Mfg. Company are compatible with the BX1926. Use of the baseplate with any non-approved tow bar invalidates the limited warranty. Consult the manufacturer or your dealer for a list of approved tow bars.
You will need: 10mm wrench, 3/4" wrench, drill, 9/16" drill bit, utility knife, and Locktite Blue (threadlocker).
The baseplate includes: one weldment baseplate (61-4733), two lower braces (102-5050), two bolt plates (61-4751), two 1/2-13 x 1 1/4" hex bolts grade 5 (201-0011), four 1/2" lock washers (203-0012), two 1/2-13 hex nuts (202-0005), and two 1/2-13 flange nuts (202-0072).
You do not need to fully remove the bumper cover, but you must pull it down to access the steel inner bumper and remove five small bolts (10mm socket) that attach the plastic cover to the frame under the radiator. You will also need to pull down the bumper cover when inserting the braces and baseplate.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill two 9/16" holes in the bottom of the plastic bumper cover to mount the baseplate. The holes are located 14 3/16" from the center of the bumper to each side, in the flat front section of the bumper bottom.
Yes. From underneath the plastic bumper cover, there is a strip of styrofoam on the bottom of the steel inner bumper behind the license plate. You must cut off approximately a 3/4" wide strip of this styrofoam to allow clearance for the baseplate installation.
First, measure from the center of the bumper 14 3/16" to each side and mark the bottom of the bumper in the flat, front section (not the angled rear section). Then install the lower braces temporarily, align them with the subframe holes, and mark the front hole locations. Remove the braces and drill 9/16" holes at the marked locations.
Orient each lower brace with the short bend facing toward the front of the vehicle. The rear hole of the brace aligns with the 3/4" hole in the engine subframe, and the front hole aligns with the marked location on the bumper.
Yes, Locktite Blue must be applied to all fasteners. Specifically, apply Locktite to the nuts when mounting the baseplate and braces to the bumper (Step 7) and when bolting the lower braces to the subframe (Step 8).
Five small bolts (10mm socket) originally attach the plastic bumper cover to the frame under the radiator. After BX1926 installation, only the center three bolts can be replaced. The two outside holes are covered by the lower braces and cannot be used.
The 3/4" diameter holes in the engine subframe are approximately 18 1/2" apart (9 1/4" on each side of center). Near each 3/4" hole is a 1 3/16" hole that allows access to insert a flange nut into the frame.
A 9/16" drill bit is required. Two holes of this size are drilled in the bottom of the plastic bumper cover to mount the baseplate.
Yes. The manual notes that dimensional variations between otherwise identical cars can be considerable. While the baseplate holes were designed for easy installation, it may be necessary to file a hole slightly to allow a bolt to clear.
Do not substitute other devices if the tow bar pin and clip are lost. Contact the tow bar manufacturer or your dealer for replacement parts.
After installation, install the tow bar and safety cables according to the instructions included in their packages. Ensure all bolts are tightened completely and that the baseplate is securely mounted before towing.

Yes, apply Locktite Blue to all nuts when mounting the baseplate and braces to the bumper and subframe.
Four bolts attach the baseplate: two to the bumper and two to the engine subframe via the lower braces.
Only tow bars approved by Automatic Equipment Mfg. Company are compatible. Use of non-approved tow bars voids the warranty.
