The Blue Ox BX2413 Tow Bar Bracket is a premium quality automotive part designed to cater to your towing needs. Custom-designed for each specific towed vehicle, this base plate is a perfect fit for a variety of models. Constructed from high-grade steel with a sleek black powder coat finish, it offers superior durability and corrosion resistance. The bracket features a bolt-on mounting type, making the installation process straightforward and hassle-free. In addition, it comes complete with all the necessary mounting hardware and a comprehensive instruction manual, making it ideal for a do-it-yourself installation.

Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Yes, the BX2413 baseplate is designed for the 2015-16 Ram ProMaster 2500. The attachment tab height is 15-1/2" and width is 23". However, dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable, so the baseplate may need slight tailoring to compensate for manufacturer tolerances.
The kit includes: BX2413 baseplate (1), two attachment tab assemblies with holes, breakaway bracket, eight spacer tubes (3/4" diameter x 1-1/2"), four 3/8" nut plates with 14" wire, various hex head bolts and screws, hex nuts, lock washers, 4-way bracket, two class IV safety cables, two 1/2" quicklinks, and two black cap plug receivers. All fasteners are zinc-plated (ZP) unless otherwise noted.
Required tools include: large vise grip, utility knife, Phillips screwdriver, torque wrench, drill, 3/8" drill bit, 1-1/4" hole saw, 8MM socket, 13MM socket, 9/16" socket, 9/16" wrench, T30 Torx, 5/32" Allen wrench, and Loctite Red. A power drill and reciprocating saw may be used but require awareness of torque dangers and objects behind cutting surfaces.
Blue Ox recommends that baseplates be installed by Blue Ox Dealers who are familiar with the products and have the equipment and knowledge necessary to do fit work. Dealers can be found at www.blueox.com or by contacting Blue Ox Technical Service at (402) 385-3051. However, the manual does not state that professional installation is mandatory.
The first step is to remove the grille using a T30 Torx screwdriver. Remove all eight (8) screws from the grille and set it aside on a flat, sturdy surface. The grille will be reinstalled after baseplate installation.
Remove the fascia in this order: (1) Remove twelve (12) T30 Torx screws from the fascia. (2) Remove one Phillips screw from the fascia panel under each headlight, unsnap the panels, and set aside. (3) Remove three (3) 8MM socket screws from each wheel well. (4) Remove six (6) T30 Torx screws from the underside of the fascia (three on each side). (5) Remove three (3) screws from underneath each headlight using T30 Torx or 5/32" Allen wrench. (6) Pull the corner of the fascia away and remove two (2) T30 Torx screws from behind the fascia on each side. (7) Disconnect any electrical lines and set the fascia aside.
Yes, drilling is required. You must enlarge existing holes in the frame using a 1-1/4" hole saw on both sides of the vehicle. Then drill the top two holes in the sideplate through the frame using a 3/8" drill bit, and finally drill the remaining holes in the sideplate through the frame using the same 3/8" drill bit. All holes must be drilled on both sides of the vehicle.
Trimming is required on both sides of the vehicle: (1) Trim off the lower plastic shielding as shown in the instructions. (2) Cut the plastic reinforcement tab back flush to the base. (3) After baseplate installation, hold the fascia as close to its original position and mark and trim the fascia around the convenience links and attachment tabs before reinstalling.
Position the baseplate onto the frame so the baseplate is against the nut in front and the top of the sideplate is flush with the lower frame rib. Level and clamp the baseplate in position. Using a 3/8" drill bit, drill the top two (2) holes in the sideplate through the frame. Install the 3/8" hardware and fully tighten on both sides. Then drill the remaining holes in the sideplate through the frame and install the 3/8" hardware and fully tighten on both sides. Use Loctite Red on all bolt threads and tighten all bolts to the appropriate torque.
Torque specifications for Grade 5 bolts (in foot-pounds): 1/4" = 10, 5/16" = 19, 3/8" = 33, 7/16" = 54, 1/2" = 78, 5/8" = 154, 3/4" = 257. The BX2413 kit uses Grade 5 bolts. Always use Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening.
Torque specifications for Grade 8 bolts (in foot-pounds): 1/4" = 14, 5/16" = 29, 3/8" = 47, 7/16" = 78, 1/2" = 119, 5/8" = 230, 3/4" = 380. If replacement bolts are needed, use the same grade as the original (most BX2413 bolts are Grade 5).
Torque specifications for metric bolts (in foot-pounds): Grade 8.8: 6MM = 6, 8MM = 16, 10MM = 31, 12MM = 54, 14MM = 89, 16MM = 161, 18MM = 222. Grade 10.9: 6MM = 8, 8MM = 22, 10MM = 40, 12MM = 70, 14MM = 117, 16MM = 230, 18MM = 318.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating). Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. You must reference your vehicle owner's manual for manufacturer's towing specifications.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
Yes. The kit includes two class IV safety cables. These permanent baseplate safety cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. They are strongly recommended to prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails. The cables must not rub against wires, hoses, or brake lines. Safety cables are to be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate using the included 1/2" quicklinks. If additional options interfere with suggested mounting, secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the General Information sheet. Ensure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Install on both sides of the vehicle.
Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. After installation, use a good quality paint to spray cut edges of the frame to prevent rusting. Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all bolts are tightened to the recommended torque specifications using Loctite Red.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Register your product online at www.blueox.com to be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and recalls. Remove the attachment tabs when not in use.
The BX8869 Tail Light Wiring Kit is recommended for the 2015-16 Ram ProMaster 2500. If used, drill a hole according to the tail light wiring kit instructions. The manual does not state whether it is required or optional.
Blue Ox offers a three-year limited warranty from the date of delivery to the original retail purchaser. The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. Warranty is valid only if the customer warranty card is returned within 30 days of purchase and a copy of the original invoice accompanies any claim. The warranty does not cover incorrect or improper installation, improper use, modification, neglect, failure to properly service and maintain, misuse, accident, normal wear and tear, paint, or rust. Warranty is non-transferable.
No. Use only genuine factory replacement parts on the baseplate. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (most BX2413 bolts are Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Failing to follow these instructions will void the manufacturer's warranty.
