Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.

The kit includes: one baseplate weldment (61-3364), two bent nut handles (61-3365), four 1/2-13 x 1 3/4" Grade 5 hex head bolts (201-0068), four 1/2-13 x 4" Grade 8 hex bolts (201-0457), six 1/2-13 hex lock nuts with nylon insert (202-0094), twelve 1/2" flat washers (203-0005), and two 1/2" lock washers (203-0012). Two 1/2" flat washers are provided to shim the baseplate if needed.
The manual recommends one or two people to hold the bumper while you mark the notch locations on the plastic valence. This step is easier with assistance, though it may be possible to do alone with temporary support.
1. Measure bumper height at three points and record. 2. Remove the four bumper bolts and set bumper aside. 3. Clean frame beams with wire brush. 4. Position baseplate between frame beams and temporarily bolt with four 1/2" x 4" bolts (tighten only enough to hold position). 5. Drill four 17/32" holes through frame beams using baseplate holes as guides. 6. Install four 1/2" x 1 3/4" Grade 5 bolts permanently. 7. Remove the temporary 1/2" x 4" bolts. 8. Hold bumper in position, mark notches around attachment tabs, and cut with jig saw. 9. Reinstall bumper using recorded measurements, insert mounting bolts, and tighten. 10. Install tow bar and safety cables per their instructions.
The four 1/2" x 4" Grade 8 bolts are used temporarily in Step 4 to hold the baseplate in position while you drill the frame holes. These are removed in Step 7. The four 1/2" x 1 3/4" Grade 5 bolts are the permanent fasteners installed in Step 6 through the drilled holes. Using the longer temporary bolts allows the baseplate to be positioned and adjusted before final drilling.
If the baseplate does not fit snugly, install 1/2" flat washers between the baseplate and the frame beam on one or both sides. Two washers are provided in the kit. If additional washers are needed, they can be purchased at any hardware store.
Before removing the bumper, measure the distance between the grille and the top of the bumper at each end and in the middle using a tape measure. Record these measurements. When reinstalling the bumper, use these measurements as a guide to position it at the same height. After snugging the bolts, visually check that the bumper is not crooked and adjust if necessary before final tightening.
Dimensional variations between vehicles may require filing a hole slightly to allow a bolt to clear. Use a file to carefully enlarge the hole as needed. This is a normal part of the installation process and does not indicate a problem with the baseplate.
