Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.

Yes. Step 10 explicitly states 'With help, hold the baseplate up under the car' when starting the bolts through the baseplate, spacers, and into the front-to-back beam holes. A helper is required to support the baseplate during this critical stage of installation.
Required tools are: 14mm socket, 17mm socket, 19mm socket, 9/16" socket, 9/16" wrench, Locktite Blue, and a long extension for sockets. The long extension is necessary to reach bolts in tight undercarriage locations.
Remove six bolts total: two bolts on the inside of each front-to-back beam (four bolts), and one bolt on the end of each front-to-back beam (two bolts). On the driver-side beam, use the bolt closest to the middle of the car if there are two bolts on the end. Also remove one forward-facing bolt from each tie-down bracket (two bolts). Set all eight removed bolts aside; they will not be reused for baseplate installation.
When properly installed, the flat tab on each upper mount must be parallel to the ground and the bent tab must angle up and out. The upper mounts bolt into the holes where the tie-down bolts were removed and run forward through the frame panel holes to the front of the car.
Two different spacer sizes are used: 2" tall spacers (part 104-0414) go between the baseplate and the front-to-back beam ends when using 10mm × 80mm bolts; 1" tall spacers (part 107-1655) go between the baseplate and the car when using 12mm × 65mm bolts for the four back holes. The 2" spacers are used on the end holes, and the 1" spacers on the back holes.
The upper mounts bolt to the base tube using 3/8" × 1¾" hex bolts (Grade 5) and 3/8"-16 nylon lock nuts through the holes near each end of the tube. Locktite must be applied even with the lock nuts. Two bolts and two lock nuts are supplied.
Two types of bolts are used: 10mm × 80mm hex bolts (Grade 8.8) with lock washers and 2" spacers for the end holes of the front-to-back beams (four bolts total, two per side); and 12mm × 65mm hex bolts (Grade 8.8) with lock washers and 1" spacers for the four back holes. Do not tighten bolts completely until all bolts are started. Step 6 states to install upper mounts 'but do not tighten completely.' Step 10 states to apply Locktite 'but do not tighten yet.' Only after all bolts are started (Step 12) should you 'tighten completely.'
Yes. Locktite Blue must be applied to the 10mm × 35mm bolts for the upper mounts (Step 6), the 10mm × 80mm and 12mm × 65mm bolts for the baseplate-to-beam connection (Step 10), and the 3/8" × 1¾" bolts for the upper mount-to-base tube connection (Step 11), even though lock nuts are used on the latter.
The manual notes that dimensional variations between otherwise identical cars can be considerable. If a bolt does not clear, it may be necessary to file a hole slightly to allow the bolt to pass through. This is a normal part of the installation process for some vehicles.
During tow testing, it was found that the front wheels may remain in the turned position after the vehicle exits a sharp dip and straightens out. If the vehicle is towed any distance with the front wheels still turned, damage to the tires and/or front end may result. Watch for this condition during towing. Do not substitute other devices if the tow bar pin and clip are lost. Use only the original tow bar pin and clip supplied with the product.
On the driver-side, the best access to the forward-facing tie-down bolt is from below. On the passenger-side, the air conditioning unit is in the way, so the best access is from above.
