Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

The BX2115 baseplate is designed for 1995–98 Ford Windstar models only. If your Windstar is a different model year, this baseplate is not compatible.
The package includes one baseplate weldment (61-4395), two 1/2" nut plates (61-4396), four 7/16" nut wires (61-4400), four 7/16-14 x 1 1/4" hex bolts Grade 5 (201-0451), two 1/2-13 x 1 3/4" hex bolts Grade 5 (201-0068), four 7/16" lock washers (203-0011), two 1/2" lock washers (203-0012), and two 1/2" flat washers (203-0005). All six mounting bolts are provided.
You will need a 3/4" socket, 5/8" socket, pliers, a drill with a 15/32" drill bit, a clamp, and Locktite Blue. An assistant is also required to hold the baseplate during installation.

Yes. You must drill two holes through the frame cross member using a 15/32" drill bit. The baseplate's center support holes are used as guides for drilling. The frame beam is open at the front, allowing access for inserting the nut plates.
Yes. The 7/16" nut wires must be trimmed and bent so the nuts can be placed through the square holes in the bumper and lay flat over the round holes. Similarly, the 1/2" nut plates must be trimmed and bent to fit through the frame beam opening and lay flat over the 1/2" slots. The nut wires may need further trimming or bending to be moved out of the way after installation.
Yes, possibly. Dimensional variations between otherwise identical Ford Windstars can be considerable. While the baseplate holes were designed for easy installation, you may need to file a hole slightly to allow a bolt to clear.
1. Start the two 7/16" bolts through the front supports and bumper center holes using the nut wires; do not tighten yet. 2. Start the two 1/2" bolts through the rear supports into the frame beam slots using the nut plates; do not tighten yet. 3. Once all four bolts are started, tighten them fully. 4. Clamp the center support straps to the frame cross member and drill two holes using a 15/32" bit. 5. Start the two remaining 7/16" bolts through the center support straps and frame member; tighten both after both are started. 6. Trim or bend nut wires as needed.
Yes. Apply Locktite Blue to the threads of each bolt before installation. This is required for both the 7/16" and 1/2" bolts.
For the two 7/16" front bolts: use 7/16" lock washers. For the two 1/2" rear bolts: use 1/2" lock washers on the bolt before installation, and place a 1/2" flat washer over the bolt on top of the end support, between the end support and the frame beam. The two remaining 7/16" center bolts also use 7/16" lock washers.
Six bolts total: four 7/16-14 x 1 1/4" hex bolts Grade 5 (two for the front supports, two for the center support) and two 1/2-13 x 1 3/4" hex bolts Grade 5 (for the rear supports). All six bolts are provided in the package.
The baseplate uses the two center 7/16" holes in the metal bumper. There are four 7/16" holes spaced across the bottom of the bumper, each with a square hole next to it; the baseplate is designed to use only the center pair.
The outer rear supports of the baseplate line up with round 1/2" slots in the bottom of the frame. The frame beam is open at the front, allowing the 1/2" nut plates to be inserted from the front and positioned over the slots.
Do not tighten the front and rear bolts until all four have been started. Once all four are started, tighten them fully. Similarly, start both center support bolts before tightening them. This ensures proper alignment.
Only tow bars approved by Automatic Equipment Mfg. Company are compatible with the BX2115. Using any other tow bar invalidates the limited warranty. Consult the manufacturer or your dealer for a list of approved tow bars.
Do not substitute other devices if the tow bar pin and clip are lost. Obtain replacement parts from the tow bar manufacturer or your dealer.
Yes. Read the General Instruction Sheet included with the baseplate package before beginning installation. Also follow the instructions included with the tow bar and safety cables.
