The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.

Yes, notching is required. The air dam behind the bumper must be notched to allow the cross tube to bolt to the frame mounts. On some vehicles, the bottom lip of the bumper may also need to be notched. The notch should be just slightly wider than the frame mounts and as high as the colored part of the bumper. Mark the notch position with the bumper in place, then remove the bumper and cut the notches using a utility knife.
Hold each frame mount in position and slide it as far forward as possible until the top outside corner hits the back of the bumper. Then slide the frame mount back about 3/4" until the two 3/8" bolt holes align with the tops of the frame's corrugation. Mark all four 3/8" holes and the 1" access hole, then repeat for the opposite side.
Eight 3/8-16 x 1¼" Grade 5 hex head bolts are used to attach the frame mounts to the frame (four per side). Each bolt must have a 3/8 lock washer placed under its head. The bolts thread into the nut wires (weldments with 3/8 nuts and 14-wire leads) on the inside of the frame.
